The Zone grown ups think they support me financially.

Forums:

I'm a person of color and these white folks want to pretend they're Trump.

What? Huh?

Zoners that are older than me keep saying that they're paying my rent even though I never asked for money.

Old white people don't really understand that much about racial issues. They're just really used to being white and privileged. That's not even an insult to anyone and there are good people out there who mean no harm but it would be great if they had classes readily available for them to learn about how to treat people that aren't white.

As a Zone grown up who doesn't think she supports you financially, in any way, how do people get there from here? And as an old white person (probably the oldest Zoner) I recognize my white privilege. I can say with certainty that I am learning all the time.

Ethnomasochism is a terrible way to live.

I googled ethnomasochism since I've never heard the term:

From Sept. 2015, Defend the Modern World:  "Ethno-masochism seems to be the word of the moment on the political right."

While the slur is often deployed as a pure insult, unaccompanied by any proof or detail, some have attempted to provide the label with a scientific context. Jared Taylor, for example, the gentlemanly leader of American Renaissance – both the largest and most respected White nationalist organisation in the United States – has alleged that White Europeans are possessed by what he calls a ‘pathological altruism’ – an evolutionary disposition that compels the sufferer to root for the underdog, seek out justice and fairness wherever it may be said to be lackin

c'mon, sad sack knot is not a good look.

Listen Slacker, relax.... Just as a goof, I might have hired Byren's Russian hacker buddy to break into the Viva Settings and change the Donation link to send all funds directly to your landlord.

Who the f*ck complains about free money?

Now apologize for that "grown up" slur or I'll change it back.

I'm not sad. I'm just advocating for something and that false narrative is the response.

im having a hard time beleiving that slack isnt the whitest guy the black screen has ever known

Ethnomasochism is a terrible way to live.

the political right is a terrible way to "live"

.....or an excuse for not living?....

Just imagine how Thom could really appreciate Jerry

if he wasn't so whacked out

just funnin wit cha boy....

Slack.  Victim. It is everyone else's fault

mr slack.

By the way why do you call yourself a slacker.... is it his self fulfilling prophecy??

If this is about the five bucks I offered to kick down a couple of weeks ago in Turtle's "Slacker needs $95k thread", mea culpa. I ended up spending the Abe on a pre-roll anyhow.

Seems like the Zone is living rent-free in your head...

Another old saying free rent. Everything was free once.

I should try to find the quote or the interview, but Robert Hunter went out of his way to recognize what Gillian was achieving musically.

Shit,Slack. Some of us have been living in tents. I just smeared this annoying bastard.

America is still mostly xenophobic and racist. That's the nature of America, I think.

i havent paid rent in almost 10 years

S & M used 2 B a kinky thang.  A term like Ethnomasochism sort of takes the fun out of it.

Though Marquis de Sade was considered (amongst other things) a revolutionary politician.

So there's that 2 consider. Carry on.

i had to buy weed for the 1st time in 25 yrs.

I'm not sure what this is about, but I haven't offered slack a dime.

And I'm on a fixed income now so please don't ask.

Now get back to work as soon as you can and keep paying your social security.

I start claiming mine in two years, and we olds need every cent.

Social Security is indeed providing me with security. Not a lot, but enough to get by with nothing non-essential.

I'm on Social-Distancing Security...

Get it together, slacker. Cringy thread bruh.

Zoners hate when they are called "grown ups". Especially when they think you are calling them "old". It's like the most offensive thing you could call an old burnt out zoner

I don't see color on the zone, it all just black screen to me

>>Zoners hate when they are called "grown ups".

It depends on the credibility of the poster who's making the call out.

LOL poor slacker, just the thought of adulthood scares him silly

If you lived on the east coast, I would hire you to clean my pool. You seem like a pretty nice fellow.

Timpane is, once again, bringing woke-ness to the Zone.

Is slackers credibility ok with you, Six?

Slacker has always been fine with me.

he just needs to try harder

> Ethnomasochism is a terrible way to live.

This might be so, but it's still preferable to ethnosadism.

Thom can't get away with using real racial slurs anymore in public so he settles for words like "ethnomasochism".

Poor Slacker :(

Slack get to Florida and I will cover a round of golf ⛳️

Hey, guys. Wassup?

Heya Floops! How's things? Hope the Low Lands are treating you well these days!

Hi, Javs. Good to see ya. It's not much different, actually. I am working, though, and that's good. The kids are doing well. How are you?

>>>>> Everything was free once.

Nah, nothing comes for free.

Even love.

Hey man, things are ok. Steady work, family is health, no complaints on my part. Can't seem to get through to the centrist/neolib/statusquo mob on the zone, but hey, what else is new? Plus, it makes for fun zoning. We could use another radical intellectual on the poly-tricks threads, if you feel so inclined at some point! :)

"Nah, nothing comes for free."

Maybe not, but once we lived (mostly) in recognition of the fact that this planet, our mother, provides for all our needs. We don't actually need to bust our butts working non-stop, just be respectful, caring, contribute back appropriately to the cycles.

Did you know that on average, hunter gatherers in the most "inhospitable" areas of the planet (specifically the Kalahari desert) 'work' 8 hours a week and have a more varied nutritional intake than we do?

There's a great study from a nutritional anthropology perspective from the 80s or 90s that did a calorie count and nutrient count of all the food that a band of !Kung San (Bushmen) in the Kalahari desert ate over a year. Turns out they had way better nutrition than your average westerner, and that's in one of the most difficult climates on the planet.

So yeah, not free, but Pachamama does provide. Working 40 to 60 or more hours a week to make shit and have a crap life is stupid. That's humanity's doing, not nature...

Who has the crap life?

No one in particular and millions around the world, I'm just saying that modern society and it's ways is anti-natural. One says nothing comes for free, I say toil and labour is a human invention, a primate projection.

Think about it: most of the US lives paycheck to paycheck and that's the richest country in the world...

Cancer, depression, pharmaceuticals, back problems, on and on and on...

Did older societies save money for the afterlife?

Left or right

and that vertical thing

Define older societies. Hunter gatherers? No. They didn't really save much of anything.

A hunter gatherer burial might consist of a few blankets, some decorations, that's about it. Sky burial, wrapped in blankets somewhere. Later, when agriculture comes into play, people can actually start saving things because you don't have to move them with you. Ceramics and looms and mortars are not practical unless you can keep them in one place. This is when you start seeing the emergence of "big men" (also in horticultural societies) with the associated mega-burials.

Do you really see yourself as a "radical intellectual," Javs?

The reason you're not changing minds is because all you offer is the problems (which most here agree with, at least on some level). Your "solutions" are terrible and could never work.

I'll do what I can, Javs, but, these days, most people are going to believe what they want to believe. Plus I'm working on a lot of my own stuff. I'll be around.

What solutions can never work, Brian?

The radical intellectual solutions, Floops. This is the United States, which is neither radical nor intellectual.

BK; I think the Vermonsters are having a hard time differentiating bullshitting from serious talk today, or knowing which thread is which. I say this based on an interaction with another Vermonster in another thread, but I just want to ask you: Are you having weird weather today?

I try not to think of myself as any label in particular, BK, other than just to try them on like one might try on different outfits before the big ball....

The first half of your post is a head-scratcher, Javs. I asked a simple, clarifying question.

So much drama from the Southern Hemisphere.

why does javs ruffle your feathers?

I'd say that I ruffle his feathers way more than he does mine.

Yes, "primitive" humans may have only worked a 20 hour week, but I'm pretty sure that was damn hard work, ever since we came down out of the trees.

My feathers are utterly unruffled.

You asked if I consider myself a radical intellectual, I said to relax, we're just bullshitting on here. Capice?

Turtle, man, one day, buddy. We shall crack brews together. :)

Actually, Surf, they worked 8 hours a week, and hard work depends on how you define it and how you do it.

Is using a digging stick to bring up the camas roots from the valley hard work? Sure, of course it is. 3 or 4 days of solid hard work. You're entire family is doing it. You're all singing, the children are with you. At the end of the day you all laugh about it. Then, you spend 3 whole days processing it, drying, curing, storing, etc. Again, with all your family, etc.

Then you have a month off to chill and enjoy life before you pack it up and move to the next valley where the salmonberries are ripening.

And 'primitive' really isn't an appropriate word, scientifically. There is nothing really primitive about their lives. Their technologies were less complex than ours, but their spirituality, social structures and life-ways definitely were not.

Sorry Javs, I sometimes have a hard time seeing your bullshitting through your radical intellectualism. You're quite verbose.

The only thing of value zoners have paid you Knotesau is a surf board and companionship

would love that beer brother javs.

Yeah, that was weird. DFlo wanted me to have an old board of his and OG, Gravy and Fog got really upset about that.

I offered to take you to lunch and a drink when I was in Cali in July. You never responded! I guess your not that poor. Didn't Phil walk like 15 blocks to have a peanut butter sandwich at Jerry's place because he was starving.

>>>The radical intellectual solutions

Which are? Please indulge me, Brian.

>>>I sometimes have a hard time seeing your bullshitting through your radical intellectualism.

Because he's not bullshitting. Are you drinking?

>>>And 'primitive' really isn't an appropriate word, scientifically. There is nothing really primitive about their lives. Their technologies were less complex than ours, but their spirituality, social structures and life-ways definitely were not.

Brian is/was a lit teacher, right? Does he need to be told that? If so, why? Just rhetorical question for Javs, but if Brian wants to answer, it could be interesting.

i watched two friends argue last night re: q-anon/corona conspiracy...q friend melted and left....

Nothing is radical.

I love Knots personal Quote in his profile,

Personal Quote:

Look at me. I'm making it. I may live badly, but at least I don't have to work to do it.

He said he was bullshiting, Floops. Jeez, the dude said something about radical intellectualism, and I simply asked if he was one. All that other shit has nothing to do with me.

Ideas to fix America's problems:

- Don't vote at all

- 4 more years of Trump, which will sew some sort of civil unrest on a grand scale.

Not voting is not an option for many of us. If we have 4 more years of Trump, and he stacks the Supreme Court, and progressive changes brought about by civil unrest will be overturned. It's as easy as that.

As I've said, pointing out the problems is easy. Finding viable solutions that take into account the wants, needs, regionalism, etc of the American population is much harder. Some things defy intellectualism and reason and have to be looked at through a different lens.

Sumatra, go wash your pointy white hood and robe.

is putting bad words in a Mad Libs radical?

Special edition mad libs or like the regular ones?

He meant shooting the shit.

I asked what you think radical intellectual solutions are.

Are you an accelerationist or not? You're kinda contradicting yourself.

Perhaps I lost my sense of sarcasm since I've been gone.

You're judging a situation on a snapshot, Floops. Be careful of that.

I've never heard the term "accelerationist," but I can imagine that it means "rapid change." Correct?

It's not what I am that matters. This nation moves slowly, and the system is designed to keep it that way. I understand that why, and on the federal level somewhat agree with the reasoning.

I would have bought you Albondigas soup at your favorite joint! You're loss!

Javs is providing some nice sound today (don't need the grouping /classifications. A form of insults )

but giving props overall for the vibe and positivity,  ( How is an intellectual defined btw - can one self appoint the classification?)

I would love beers with javs n turts. I would also love to buy the  first round

Javs and Turtle bromance is cute.

>>>I've never heard the term "accelerationist," but I can imagine that it means "rapid change." Correct?

Well, based on your two bullet points, I got the idea that you want to accelerate the nastiness in our culture in order to cause an emergency that must be addressed. Did I read that wrong? Did I lose sarcasm points again? seriously. I'm too dry sometimes.

Oh, sorry, I was outlining Javs' "solutions," which I don't think hold any water.

>>>This nation moves slowly, and the system is designed to keep it that way.

I think of it more like the spin cycle. It's the same stuff, but it's whirling along with it in cycles. I'm dizzy. On the other hand, this nation also has moments of extremely quick motion. Perhaps we should use fault lines as our metaphor.

Ooop, my son's here. It's 23:01. Enjoy your days, peeps.

Ahh, I see. Okay, my head is on straight now. See yas.

Well, my son is watching a live stream of Logic building up beats, so I have a moment.

The zone grown ups (an oxymoron if I ever heard one) may think they're supporting you financially, Slacker, but the rest of us got you a hundred here.

>>>>>And 'primitive' really isn't an appropriate word, scientifically. There is nothing really primitive about their lives.

Why I used quotes.

Nyah na nyah, nyah na nyah, nyah na nyah, nyah na nyah.

^  All kidding aside, the cadence of the BLM chant kind of reminds me / has a foot in the door of this (and the sentiment of the overall context of the episode itself).   Hardly suggesting the meaning or expression of the chant is "childish", but it kind of shares a similar eerie overtone as the star trek episode alluded to above ... as if our society is essentially a bunch of kids who's growth have been stunted and don't no any better at this point in time, yet the chant is how it manifests itself in expression.
