Old white people don't really understand that much about racial issues. They're just really used to being white and privileged. That's not even an insult to anyone and there are good people out there who mean no harm but it would be great if they had classes readily available for them to learn about how to treat people that aren't white.
As a Zone grown up who doesn't think she supports you financially, in any way, how do people get there from here? And as an old white person (probably the oldest Zoner) I recognize my white privilege. I can say with certainty that I am learning all the time.

Actually, Surf, they worked 8 hours a week, and hard work depends on how you define it and how you do it.
Is using a digging stick to bring up the camas roots from the valley hard work? Sure, of course it is. 3 or 4 days of solid hard work. You're entire family is doing it. You're all singing, the children are with you. At the end of the day you all laugh about it. Then, you spend 3 whole days processing it, drying, curing, storing, etc. Again, with all your family, etc.
Then you have a month off to chill and enjoy life before you pack it up and move to the next valley where the salmonberries are ripening.
And 'primitive' really isn't an appropriate word, scientifically. There is nothing really primitive about their lives. Their technologies were less complex than ours, but their spirituality, social structures and life-ways definitely were not.
I offered to take you to lunch and a drink when I was in Cali in July. You never responded! I guess your not that poor. Didn't Phil walk like 15 blocks to have a peanut butter sandwich at Jerry's place because he was starving.
>>>And 'primitive' really isn't an appropriate word, scientifically. There is nothing really primitive about their lives. Their technologies were less complex than ours, but their spirituality, social structures and life-ways definitely were not.
Brian is/was a lit teacher, right? Does he need to be told that? If so, why? Just rhetorical question for Javs, but if Brian wants to answer, it could be interesting.
He said he was bullshiting, Floops. Jeez, the dude said something about radical intellectualism, and I simply asked if he was one. All that other shit has nothing to do with me.
Ideas to fix America's problems:
- Don't vote at all
- 4 more years of Trump, which will sew some sort of civil unrest on a grand scale.
Not voting is not an option for many of us. If we have 4 more years of Trump, and he stacks the Supreme Court, and progressive changes brought about by civil unrest will be overturned. It's as easy as that.
As I've said, pointing out the problems is easy. Finding viable solutions that take into account the wants, needs, regionalism, etc of the American population is much harder. Some things defy intellectualism and reason and have to be looked at through a different lens.
You're judging a situation on a snapshot, Floops. Be careful of that.
I've never heard the term "accelerationist," but I can imagine that it means "rapid change." Correct?
It's not what I am that matters. This nation moves slowly, and the system is designed to keep it that way. I understand that why, and on the federal level somewhat agree with the reasoning.
>>>I've never heard the term "accelerationist," but I can imagine that it means "rapid change." Correct?
Well, based on your two bullet points, I got the idea that you want to accelerate the nastiness in our culture in order to cause an emergency that must be addressed. Did I read that wrong? Did I lose sarcasm points again? seriously. I'm too dry sometimes.
>>>This nation moves slowly, and the system is designed to keep it that way.
I think of it more like the spin cycle. It's the same stuff, but it's whirling along with it in cycles. I'm dizzy. On the other hand, this nation also has moments of extremely quick motion. Perhaps we should use fault lines as our metaphor.
Ooop, my son's here. It's 23:01. Enjoy your days, peeps.
^ All kidding aside, the cadence of the BLM chant kind of reminds me / has a foot in the door of this (and the sentiment of the overall context of the episode itself). Hardly suggesting the meaning or expression of the chant is "childish", but it kind of shares a similar eerie overtone as the star trek episode alluded to above ... as if our society is essentially a bunch of kids who's growth have been stunted and don't no any better at this point in time, yet the chant is how it manifests itself in expression.

You asked if I consider myself a radical intellectual, I said to relax, we're just bullshitting on here. Capice?
Turtle, man, one day, buddy. We shall crack brews together. :)

Actually, Surf, they worked 8

Brian is/was a lit teacher, right? Does he need to be told that? If so, why? Just rhetorical question for Javs, but if Brian wants to answer, it could be interesting.

He said he was bullshiting,
He said he was bullshiting, Floops.

I've never heard the term "accelerationist," but I can imagine that it means "rapid change." Correct?
It's not what I am that matters. This nation moves slowly, and the system is designed to keep it that way. I understand that why, and on the federal level somewhat agree with the reasoning.

Well, based on your two bullet points, I got the idea that you want to accelerate the nastiness in our culture in order to cause an emergency that must be addressed. Did I read that wrong? Did I lose sarcasm points again? seriously. I'm too dry sometimes.

I think of it more like the spin cycle. It's the same stuff, but it's whirling along with it in cycles. I'm dizzy. On the other hand, this nation also has moments of extremely quick motion. Perhaps we should use fault lines as our metaphor.
