It really isn't over there is nothing in the constitution that says they can't expand the court to 11 next year. The Democrats need to make clear that is what they will do if they ram this through.

Off the top of my head - lack of dental benefits, no drug coverage w/o additional expense, and the patient is responsible for 20% of the cost of most procedures. Yes, it's better than nothing, and better than some private ins., but it could be a lot better.
Likewise, there could be other paths forward that are not as good as Medicare but still better than current alternatives. Most Europeans like their insurance systems, but none are identical to M4A.

Not much they can do except boycott the hearings and the votes, but that wouldn't really have much effect. The rest of the post is on point though. No reason to honor any norms anymore, except that the media scold Democrats for doing things that they're silent on when Republicans do them, and bad press clips make a lot of D elected officials nervous, because they're weak.
The ACA, for all its faults, was Biden's baby. He'll never scrap it for M4A.
At this point, it's probably better to make suggestions on how to make ACA better. For instance, there's a clause that says that if an employer offers health insurance to the primary insured at less than 9% of gross income, and the employer also offers the insurance to family, even if unsubsidized, the family members aren't eligible for the exchange.
To put this in real life terms, my employer pays for 100% of my health, and offers it to my family at an unsubsidized rate. The cost to me, for my 3 kids, would have been $36,000 a year. There was no help. Luckily, I could get it through their colleges for much, much less. Otherwise, I would have been working full-time and living in a box, so my kids could be insured.
For the time being, the best we can do is to fix the ACA and use it as a pathway to M4A.
Collins, Murkowski, and Kelly over McSally in the run-off for MCCain's seat, gives the Dems three of the four votes they'll need to stop the confirmation. Romney is the obvious candidate to be the 4th vote. He has been open in his opposition to Trump's platform. What's to stop him now?

I prayed for her soul and for her family.
It seems as if the question unspoken is whether abortion remains legal, I completely get the arguments one way and the other so please spare me the justification...for a while I worked harder than anyone has or anyone posting on this message board will ever to elect a democrat president because at the time it was the most direct act I could engage in to stop the war, alas...that didn't work, but I always [albeit in a flawed justification] rationalized my instinctive misgivings and core rejection of the concept of abortion with the fact that I was doing everything I could to end war,,,it was an odd and flawed quid pro quo.
In my quest for a noninterventionist foreign policy I became fervently enamored with the liberty movement of Ron Paul, it was then that I first heard his discussion points in regards to abortion and it initiated or somehow triggered a remembrance of how I have always thought about abortion, that I'm against it.
I realize that's unacceptable to some, and that's ok...I'm against abortion.

Pheat, you seem to be hung up on M4A. It's not the be-all and end all. I get Medicare benefits, and there are some serious deficiencies there. Off the top of my head - lack of dental benefits, no drug coverage w/o additional expense, and the patient is responsible for 20% of the cost of most procedures. Yes, it's better than nothing, and better than some private ins., but it could be a lot better.
Likewise, there could be other paths forward that are not as good as Medicare but still better than current alternatives. Most Europeans like their insurance systems, but none are identical to M4A.

The ACA, for all its faults, was Biden's baby. He'll never scrap it for M4A.
At this point, it's probably better to make suggestions on how to make ACA better. For instance, there's a clause that says that if an employer offers health insurance to the primary insured at less than 9% of gross income, and the employer also offers the insurance to family, even if unsubsidized, the family members aren't eligible for the exchange.
To put this in real life terms, my employer pays for 100% of my health, and offers it to my family at an unsubsidized rate. The cost to me, for my 3 kids, would have been $36,000 a year. There was no help. Luckily, I could get it through their colleges for much, much less. Otherwise, I would have been working full-time and living in a box, so my kids could be insured.
For the time being, the best we can do is to fix the ACA and use it as a pathway to M4A.

The fact that he loves conservative judges. If he were elected in 2012 or ran in 2016 and won he'd have nominated the same kinds of people as Trump. So seems very unlikely he'll buck Trump on the thing they maybe agree most on. But I'd be happy to be wrong.
