Can you speak Spanish?

Forums:

I can't speak Spanish.

Neither can google home

un poquito

I can guess a little. But I'm just guessing based on the situation.

Yes,  but I was born in America.

Nõ?

I wish I could. I think it sounds awesome.

Very flowing & musical.

Plus I wouldn't get so paranoid when my students break into it in my classes, thinking that they're talking about me.

On the other hand, one of the things I love most about salsa music is the singing. Vocals in salsa music can just soar, but if I understood the words it wouldn't sound as much like another instrument.

Took it for four years in school....work in a kitchen....so....ya, no...

I can understand topic of conversation, but im happy when i can remember how to count to ten...

8 person staff in our kitchen...8 differant countries...lol

Un poquito. Pero no comprendo por mierda.

No, I definitely should know more. I just had a tough time trying to wrangle a pastelito at an empanada place.

me duele la espalda..............

I can get by.

Uno mas cervesa, por favor.

In Spain they said my accent was Castillan.

I speak OK, but can't comprehend conversation unless spoken slowly.

I Spent 6 weeks just north of Cabo in the 90s - i learned quite a bit then Some of the Nicest people down there and Great Eats ! I Really Miss Todos Santos Baja Sur.

Casi bastante.

I do encourage my children to learn. I want them to be competitive in the future job market.  It's very likely that Spanish will become the unofficial language of the United States in the coming decades.  I don't find this to be a disappointment or a reason for panic. I'm actually looking forward to it. My kids can assimilate into this young country just like my great grandparents did.

¡Viva la zone!

JODETE - Donald Trump

I can understand it much better than I talk it.

Si, poquito, pero, quando una nina, hablo espanol muy bien.....eh-hope that's right.....

Studied Spanish from grade 6-12, learned all the grammar, subjunctive clauses, past tense etc.

Forgot most of it after a few years, but when I brewed in Kansas, I got to practice conversational again as all the kitchen staff were Mexican and did not speak much English.  So now I'm maybe a 5th-grade level speaker.  I did spend five weeks in Mexico some years back and was able to function, and even translate for the Canadians.

Got hired on at a native plant nursery in OR by virtue of being a good-enough speaker.  THe boss was saying that the Mexican staff did not quite understand the details of tasks which he wanted them to do, so could I please explain to them clearly in Spanish.

Turned out that they just liked doing stuff their way, and were not planning on listening to me as I did not sign the checks.  But I had a lot of fun practicing Spanish and making up Mexican songs like what I heard all day on the radio.

GypsyCowgirl, you made it! There's a Mamas and Papas thread in the Caregivers, etc., folder, but no one has posted in it yet. I remember you from that thread on the Philzone, as well as your SF history.
