Free Husky / Huskies to good home

They are gorgeous and a huge part of me wants to say, "I'll take them!" But I'm a single mom with 3 boys who are pretty crazy to begin with...

I have friends and family up that way... do you mind if i share this on facebook?

I will give a Fine Home to the female Hüsky,  if that can work out.  120 acres of Farm & Forest,   no free-range roaming,  Dogs sleep indoors and get tons of exercise.

My current male Hüsky might get agitated with another male in the picture,  but he likes Girls.  He's up to date on vaccinations, neutered,  and socialized with other Dogs, Kids and people of all types.  His diet is grain-free kibble mixed with a taste of grain-free wet food,  with occasional turkey or chicken mixed in.

I'll meet halfway between Jerseyland & Baltimore for 'meet & greet' to see if they get along.  I imagine they will be Happy together.

These Dogs are the most Awesome pet Canines,  and besides the Shedding,  extremely clean and well-behaved.

Not for those who don't get outdoors much.  They like to run,  swim,  go places.  Terrible watchdogs;  they love everyone.

There are similar Sled-Dawg groups all over the USA and beyond,  so if you did some research,  you might find people in Maryland who like Hüskies.

In my experience,  the Mushers tend to have more than one Siberian Husky,  and take very nice care of them.  Actually,  they all seem to have at least a half-dozen or so.  It would be Super-Cool if those Dogs got the opportunity to stay together,  and also join up with their fellow Sled-Dogs.

I could make a telephone call or two,  and possibly get you in touch with some of the Sled-Dawg folks.  No,  they are not exploited Dogs.  They actually really, really enjoy that sort of activity.  Perhaps that is a fortuitous option to explore ??

Mr. Surf,  saw your post after I typed this one.  I can afford to house one more Hüsky,  but not an entire Team.  However,  those Musher folks have suitable facilities for multiple Northern Dogs.  They have already figured out how to contain,  feed and exercise the Feisty fiends.

Attending these Musher events and having my Hound participate,  he had a total Blast and loved it.  It's liek, that's what he was Born for.

I get that 'the pair' are a bit under - trained,  but when you put them into the Pack,  the other Sled - Hounds get them 'up to speed' and teach them.

I did place a telephone call to a Lady I met at one of the Dog-Race events,  letting her know that a pair of Huskies are looking for a Nice Home.

She & her Husband were in Jerseyland,  from out in central PA to participate in the Race event with their 13-14 year old Husky, maybe another.  Above link might work;  they had their Summer campout a couple weeks ago.

Gotta say that all of the folks I've met associated with the Musher scene are the Hugest dog lovers anywhere.  They all coddle their pet Animals and take pride in spoiling them.  If those Hüskies can get hooked up with the right Sledder - enthusiast group,  they will live a happy and healthy Life.

And,  condolences to you and Family.  Sorry for the loss of your Sister.  Hope her pets find a Great home.

Here is a page from an Alaskan Husky breeder explaining some basic realities about the characteristics of these creatures.  Their site also has some tips about diet (they feed raw food and bones, with supplements).  Their dogs are looking pretty good,  so they know stuff.

Anyone thinking about a Husky should read that page.  These guys are a handful,  but a ton o' Fun.  The main thing is keeping them well-exercised and well-contained.  Mine's only escaped a few times,  so now He's always on two metal leads when outside.  He did not go very far,  as there are nearby attractions.

But they are stupid about roads & cars.  Also, they will chase Horses,  Goats,  Chickens and definitely Sheep.

I sent Robin the info to a few days ago and asked her to pass it on as I am not face book friends with John, she hasn't responded. I tried

Another option that dawned on me --

Make some printed ads w/ photos "Free Huskies"  and hang on bulletin boards at your local-ish Tractor Supply.   there are a few in the Baltimore area,  one in Glen Burnie,  one in Lothan,  one in Chestertown.  I check the ads when I'm in there and whenever there's free Bunnies or Chickens or Dogs,  they go quickly.

Everyone in there is somewhat rural and has open space + Animals.  So,  a good demographic.  Same with "Agway"  if you have some.

Don't know if your local PetCo,  PetSmart or PetValu have bulletin boards,  but it's worth a try.

I would take him but my wife might divorce me if I come home with another pet.

Thanks for bumping the thread, Ro. I've been wondering all day about them.

I think that Mr. AlanR was out of town for a while,  but has many opportunities to research.  My belief is that the Goal is to keep the Husky friends together,  which makes a lot of sense.  They are such socially-bonding Canines,  and hate breaking up The Pack.

Mine cries and whines like a Baby after a couple nights at Dog-sitter's house.  They take great care of H.I.M. and have fun outings,  runs & walks,  but despite Hüsky's air of independence and Freedom,  they like to be around their pet Hu-persons.  Those little Kids probably wake H.I.M. up waaaayy too early in the morning to watch cartoons on the TV.  

My favorite Dog-sitters are the ones with other Doggies & Kids;  someone is staying home and keeping equilibrium.  It's a safe Space.  There's extra Bacon & Eggs,  and plenty of company.

But he gets Chickens and Havana Cigars  at home,  as many as he likes.  He can sleep in until Noon in the Air - Conditioning,  with no Job to attend.

Anyway,  I will still adopt the Girl,  as I said before.  As long as my Dog and Her get along on a 'meet & greet' basis,  she has a nice cushy place to live.

Here is yet another option:

If you print up a flyer w/ photos and a brief description of the Huskies,  I can laminate and hang one at the local Dog Park.  I would put my phone # on there and screen potential adopters for suitable living conditions.  I always get comments such as "what a nice doggie" and "I want one of those!"

The demographic is people that regularly bring their dogs to socialize, run  and play.  There are 6-7 Huskies I've met there,  and a couple Malamutes.

Just another possibility.

Beautiful Pups.  The Boy looks like the typical mischievous yet 'beyond-the-Law'  Hüsky.  "yes i ate yer Passport;  you left it in that desk drawer for me. It was almost expired anyway."

You don't owe me a Beer Mr. AlanR.  I'm happy to try & help out,  knowing that you are trying to find the right Family for the Pups,  and just how much Fun they are.

I still think that the most likely approach is to contact Husky fiends such as the Musher  groups.  They've got a bunch already;  what's another pair?

The breed are very social together,  and make nice Packs.  As working Dogs,  they have evolved towards group skills.
