Calling all Deadheads to come dance the night away while cheering on the Flyers for the first ever Flyers x Grateful Dead Night - a celebration of the Grateful Dead! There will be a pregame concert with music provided by Philadelphia Legends Splintered Sunlight. Every ticket purchased includes a commemorative Flyers/ Grateful Dead t-shirt with the dates of all 71 Grateful Dead shows in Philadelphia! For the past twenty-five years Splintered Sunlight has been sharing their unique take on the music of the Grateful Dead with music fans throughout the Delaware Valley and Mid-Atlantic region. Check the band's schedule and plan to join the party, C'mon Out and Dance! Doors open at 4pm for the Pregame Concert from 4:45pm-6:45pm.
I like Electric Waste Band they are a lot of fun. I have seen them many times. Saw them NYE at Winston's and they played really well. The bass player was playing the bass that Phil played 40 years earlier at 1981 NYE show/run the last of the 4 string basses for Phil I believe (on loan from some dude who works for Irwin Guitars). The lead guitarist was playing an Irwin called Wine Country for a few tunes but he sounds better on his own Fender. This was all pretty cool to me since I was there to commemorate that EPIC show on 12/31/81 .
<Unlimited Devotion is playing this weekend in Florida> I've seen these guys several times and while not the best, they are really good. They play in bars where you can see em free.
My favorite is a Massachusetts--South Shore Band called Playin' Dead. They have been around for a while but I moved west well before they got going but they are as solid as you get and the Archive.org has their weekly shows. Splintered Sunlight from Philly is also a very honorable mention though I don't think there as good as say 10 years back. Also, the cats from Texas, Forgotten Space are great. Chicagloland has had Mr. Blotto for like 20 + years and while not a strictly Dead cover band, they do plenty and can hit the stratosphere. Another PA band from the Harrisburg area called Crippled But Free is worth checking out as they rip and last, a few honorable mentions go to Garcia Birthday Band in the Portland, OR area, Hyryder in the Indianapolis area, Xtra Ticket in the Phoenix, AZ area, The Wheel in the Albany, NY area and The Reckoning in the Charlotte area. There are a few others I always listen to their stuff on the Archive.org. Of course, Stu Allen out here in San Francisco and Jerry's Middle Finger also in the North Bay can really jam. Give a shout-out and donate to Archive.org as it is a treasure trove
Uncle John's Band has done over 1100 shows at Skipper's Smokehouse in Tampa. I met them several years ago when I was there to play in a friend's band at Americana Fest.
They are unsure why it is still going on but "they keep coming".
Countless other touring bands have made a Thursday night detour to play a “sandwich set” with UJB. Skippers Smokehouse is considered by many to be the center of the Tampa Bay music scene, and Uncle John's Band its weekly “church.” $5 cover<<<<

I'd guess Adam's on for the current tour, at least. That'll be a fun one at txr. Dan Horne is awesome on that bass; hopefully Phil is there, too.
I saw a tascam running on the stage Saturday night, but I cannot find any links from that show for now, UtahJim.
They took it 'out there' a few times, but also seem to revel in the cowboy numbers.

the proliferation of GD tribute bands in the US is mind-boggling... there's even a website that keeps track of all of 'em:

according to the map, Idaho and North Dakota are the only two states without a GD tribute band

My favorite local Dead cover bands are currently Phil Lesh & Friends and Stu Allen & Mars Hotel.
Though, admittedly, the members rotate to the extant that neither are actual "bands"
