Your Local Dead Cover Band...

Forums:

....is not as good as Grateful Shred w/ Adam MacDougall.

That's all. I don't know if Adam's in the band full-time now, or what, but they sound good that-a-way.

going thurs to txr to see this show for the 1st time.  no idea if Adam is playing or not.

excited to see musicians under 60 playing dead tunes

philly has an excellent one... splintered sunlight.  my favorite GD coverband who owns what they actually are.

Sounds like a good fit. I would give that a listen. Any links?

I'd guess Adam's on for the current tour, at least. That'll be a fun one at txr. Dan Horne is awesome on that bass; hopefully Phil is there, too.

I saw a tascam running on the stage Saturday night, but I cannot find any links from that show for now, UtahJim.

They took it 'out there' a few times, but also seem to revel in the cowboy numbers.

the proliferation of GD tribute bands in the US is mind-boggling... there's even a website that keeps track of all of 'em:

http://www.gratefuldeadtributebands.com/

according to the map, Idaho and North Dakota are the only two states without a GD tribute band sad

lol, great map! That's awesome....

MacDougall should definitely go conquer one of those untapped markets with his own band.

went and saw grateful shread.  I was not impressed

the bar show on the other hand was very well played.  mookie and scott law were an excellent excuse to leave the shread behind and get a pizza

Cubensis has been kicking ass in soCal for over 30 yrs.   I first saw them in 1990 soon after the GD shows at Dominguez Hills.

The cube was really good

my fav is Phillip Chapman Lesh

no contest

^Agreed.

My favorite local Dead cover bands are currently Phil Lesh & Friends and Stu Allen & Mars Hotel.

Though, admittedly, the members rotate to the extant that neither are actual "bands"

I Love Cubensis also A Band Called Top Dead Center Out Of Tucson Arizona which Is Now Known as The Mike and Randy Show

>>>philly has an excellent one... splintered sunlight.

might be steppin' out for that tomorrow night

>>>>here's even a website that keeps track of all of 'em:

I guess local to me would be Forgotten Space, from Dallas. Grenada Theater few years ago. Check them out if they are still playing. You wont regret.

Splintered Sunlight really sound Good.  Saw their faux-Jerry guy Butchy at the Asbury Park free Sunday music last week.
He's one of my favorite Garcia emulator people.

Jam Stampede is the best small gd band you've probably never heard.  Check them out on archive.

Too many to list,

Unlimited Devotion is playing this weekend in Florida

I like Electric Waste Band they are a lot of fun. I have seen them many times.  Saw them NYE at Winston's and they played really well. The bass player was playing the bass that Phil played 40 years earlier at 1981 NYE show/run the last of the 4 string basses for Phil I believe (on loan from some dude who works for Irwin Guitars). The lead guitarist was playing an Irwin called Wine Country for a few tunes but he sounds better on his own Fender. This was all pretty cool to me since I was there to commemorate that EPIC show on 12/31/81 .

<Unlimited Devotion is playing this weekend in Florida>  I've seen these guys several times and while not the best, they are really good.  They play in bars where you can see em free.

20220129_205353_copy_864x864.jpgRight now in Tyler, Texas. Forgotten Space.  Good band seem them if you can.

Jerry the drummer was zoner on the old site. He didn't post much.

Particle Dude!

Support live local music.  Go to the show.

Live your life.!

My favorite is a Massachusetts--South Shore Band called Playin' Dead.  They have been around for a while but I moved west well before they got going but they are as solid as you get and the Archive.org has their weekly shows.  Splintered Sunlight from Philly is also a very honorable mention though I don't think there as good as say 10 years back.  Also, the cats from Texas, Forgotten Space are great.  Chicagloland has had Mr. Blotto for like 20 + years and while not a strictly Dead cover band, they do plenty and can hit the stratosphere.  Another PA band from the Harrisburg area called Crippled But Free is worth checking out as they rip and last, a few honorable mentions go to Garcia Birthday Band in the Portland, OR area, Hyryder in the Indianapolis area, Xtra Ticket in the Phoenix, AZ area, The Wheel in the Albany, NY area and The Reckoning in the Charlotte area.  There are a few others I always listen to their stuff on the Archive.org. Of course, Stu Allen out here in San Francisco and Jerry's Middle Finger also in the North Bay can really jam.  Give a shout-out and donate to Archive.org as it is a treasure trove

 Antwerp's Placebo and me,, salute.

Uncle John's Band has done over 1100 shows at Skipper's Smokehouse in Tampa.  I met them several years ago when I was there to play in a friend's band at Americana Fest.

They are unsure why it is still going on but "they keep coming".

I love this logo I recently saw online

So no one mentioned Stella Blues Band IMO they are one of the best in the NY area followed closely by Half Step

1100 shows, wow.

Countless other touring bands have made a Thursday night detour to play a “sandwich set” with UJB. Skippers Smokehouse is considered by many to be the center of the Tampa Bay music scene, and Uncle John's Band its weekly “church.” $5 cover<<<<

I knew Kat when she was a plq vendor out that white van

((((StellaBluesBand NameDropping))))

EWB just played their 30th anny.....1554th CONSECUTIVE monday night.

Crazy Fingers of South Florida has been going at it regularly since 1990. The band has played over 5000 live shows.

Bobby's Shorts out of Athens, GA.  (not actually local for me, but close enuff)

Born Cross Eyed, In Lexington KY. Since 1991. Mrs. Lager is also in the band!
