New York Got The Ways And Means

Forums:

AMEN!

Concrete jungle where dreams are made of.

I only go there for shows.

Cuomo just signed it  yes

Some of the dankest green bud came from the Alfred NY area in the mid 80's

I remember the Utica flavor in 1990 like it was yesterday.

So I see they allow people to grow.    What's the limit?    Can't wait to see everyone's pics of the Empire State colas come grow season.

My son is actually moving to NYC in October.  Got himself a job at a storied mid-town Manhattan law firm.  Haven't been to the city since the 1980s (aside from a few hours at the Greyhound station in the middle of the night in 94) and looking forward to visiting.

Smoke in public ok anywhere tobacco is allowed!

^^^^ Is puffing in public allowed in Oregon and Cali?

I usually partake at home or in a private space out of habit, but just curious...

>>>>Is puffing in public allowed in Oregon and Cali?

Not technically, but people still do it around here.   And a lot of people don't smoke flower anymore and vape or eat edibles instead, so its usually not a big deal.   If NY allows public smoking of ganja, I think that will be a first in the Union.

This morning I heard it's 6 plants per person, a total of 8 per household.

You can get a shit ton of weed off of six plants.

From CNN:

The bill also expunges previous marijuana convictions for actions that would be legal under the new law.

"This is a historic day in New York -- one that rights the wrongs of the past by putting an end to harsh prison sentences, embraces an industry that will grow the Empire State's economy, and prioritizes marginalized communities so those that have suffered the most will be the first to reap the benefits," Cuomo said in a news release Wednesday.

The bill creates licenses for producers and distributors.

It also allows adults 21 and older to buy cannabis from authorized sellers, and possess up to 3 ounces of cannabis and 24 grams of cannabis concentrate. And, 18 months after sales first begin, it allows them to grow at home up to six mature plants and six immature plants at home per household.

> six mature plants and six immature plants at home per household

I believe I read somewhere that it also provides for 3 mature and 3 immature per person.

I 2nd that AMEN !!

Mike yes it’s 3 and 3 per person but I think the max is 6 and 6. That’s plenty of you do the right method

the nys law is definitely unique and welcomed but the devil is in the details, and, when it comes to cannabis law, the devil is in the formation and implementation process.

6 total plants for home grow is good (the national average is ~7 mature), so is a stated focus on small businesses through rolling and accessible license types, such as delivery and online sales, but perhaps the most important component of the nys law surrounds racial equity and restorative justice. the majority of the tax and reg laws in the 16 states with an adult-use market were legislatively driven by a corporate trade association called the Marijuana Policy Project, they are the ALEC of the cannabis industry. yes, legal cannabis is a billion $ industry and has special interests. MPP practices regulatory capture, they don't give a fuck about equity or restorative justice and are largely responsible for the terrible 4.3% BIPOC business ownership rate in the emerging industry. so, the fact that nys has acknowledged and is attempting to redress through statute is seen as a giant milestone for the industry, their automatic expungement mirrors that of Illinois, performed at the executive level, cost-free and without requiring court surcharges as criteria for eligibility – all this is good.

some of the criticisms of the nys law include – it does not touch their medical program, which is usually a red flag for regulatory capture, it forms an unelected 5 person commission which has details yet to be defined that can tip the market in favor of the big actors, and it includes a myriad of provisions that can be turned into market delays for small businesses at rollout.

the nys law is much more sophisticated and progressive than vermont's new law.

I was a kid sitting in the tank waiting for my transport to Rikers.  My life had ended.  A NORMAL lawyer stepped in and eventually saved my ass.  Throw out any glorified tale of prison....  It's hell... It's a place that you learn to become a criminal/better criminal.   And my rap wont be expunged until I pay a lawyer.  The charges don't automatically fall off.

OR - not "allowed", but not enforced unless police receive complaints, although even then you would prob. just get a request to put it out, or if you piss them off.
