Mitch McConnell (R): 40%

The election is still a long ways out and a 1% lead gets leveled by the margin of error. The good news is McConnell is not particularly popular in Kentucky these days. Jane Mayer's reporting on McConnell in the New Yorker from April sheds a lot of light on the Majority Leader's rise to power:

The German left was largely
The German left was largely powerless to act against the Nazi assumption of power. This was a cause for great concern and international debate at the time: how could fascism take power in Germany, the birthplace of Marxism and a country endowed with powerful trade unions, a strong Social Democratic Party and the largest Communist Party outside of the Soviet Union? How was Hitler able to take power without causing a civil war, or even a general strike? How could both the SPD and KPD be destroyed without massive resistance?
Another fatal consequence of the KPD’s ultra-leftism was that the term “fascism” was used irresponsibly to describe any and all opponents to the right of the party. The SPD-led government that ruled Germany until 1930 was considered “social fascist”. When Brüning formed a new right-wing government by decree without a parliamentary majority in 1930, the KPD declared that fascism had taken power. This went hand in hand with a deadly underestimation of the Nazi danger. Thus Thälmann could declare in 1932: “Nothing could be more fatal for us than to opportunistically overestimate the danger posed by Hitler-fascism”.3 The KPD’s seeming inability to distinguish between democratic, authoritarian and fascist expressions of capitalist rule proved to be its undoing. An organisation that continually vilified bourgeois democratic governments as fascist was unable to understand the true meaning of Hitler’s ascension to power on 30 January 1933, the day the KPD infamously (and ominously) declared: “After Hitler, we will take over!”

Nominating an uber-progressive for US Senate in KY would absolutely help Mitch get re-elected.
People on the extreme ends of the political spectrum (both ends) tend to surround themselves with like minded people. As a result, they ignore the massive blob of independent/moderate voters in the middle. It's simply a political reality.
I have never said I disagree with the policies Bernie advocated for, I've just thought (correctly) that it won't fly to the blob in the middle. This election is a mandate on Trump (and his supporters in Congress), period. Win this one first, then take the next step on a more progressive agenda.

I'm curious why Bernie is an "asshole" for endorsing a candidate that's running against a progressive democrat? I get that if he was pulling for McConnell he'd be an asshole, but a primary should be competitive, isn't that the point of running a fair contest? If Booker loses, sure, throw some support Amy's way, but until that is the scenario, perhaps she ought to appeal to voters who support Bernie instead of appealing to temporarily ashamed republicans if his endorsement is seen as such a threat to her success. Speaking of...Has Biden endorsed her, or supported any candidate currently running for senate? How are progressives supposed to enact real change from "the bottom up" if their voices are silenced from the bottom on up?

Look AOC endorsed Booker too,
Look AOC endorsed Booker too, and I'm 100% for that. Her role is to be the all in progressive supporter. When Bernie ran for President to represent all Democrats he took on a different role. He carries weight now and people listen to him. Yes it would be fine if he endorses Booker in the Primary and then pivots to Amy in the general, but we have seen he doesn't do that, and the people who follow him don't do that either. McGrath needs every vote she can get and even then she probably wont win and that is fine too.
But the reason we want a close race in Kentucky is because McConnell has amassed a huge war chest. He doles that out to Republicans in close races all around the country. If he is in a close race in KY he can't do that and it makes it much more likely that the Republicans loose the Senate which makes it much more likely we can nominate a young liberal to replace RGB on the surpeme court, and so many other things that fall in place from that.

When Bernie ran for President
When Bernie ran for President to represent all Democrats he took on a different role. He carries weight now and people listen to him.
Oh really? Interesting. He's suspended his campaign, and he's using his voice to represent the wishes of his progressive supporters. Maybe people running for office should start listening to them too if his endorsement in a primary is such a big hairy deal.
I'm wondering if you missed this nugget, a verbatim McGrath quote in my other post.
"she continued on MSNBC. "And I think that that’s very important, and that’s going to be my message – the things that Kentuckians voted for Trump for are not being done. He’s not able to get it done because of Senator McConnell."
Also a 1% lead isn't beating McConnell, c'mon man, that's well within the error margin. I know some are used to going rounds name calling and extreme absolutes instead of having conversations here, but gaslighting is beneath you.
Also what support has Biden given the downticket? I'm not a fan of his so perhaps I've missed his endorsement of McGrath? Bueller?

What she said is a strategy
What she said is a strategy to win in Kentucky. Trump ran on a populist message. The best health care in the world for everyone. It was all bullshit of course, but it makes perfect sense to make McConnell the reason it didn't happen. You have to get Trump voters to win in Kentucky
Here is Amy's platform.
We need leaders who say “yes” to raising the minimum wage, “yes” to investing in underserved communities, and “yes” to funding for badly-needed infrastructure improvements. I will be that kind of senator.
A public option would give all Americans the opportunity to buy a publicly run insurance plan instead of a private insurance plan, if they prefer to do so.
Climate change and resource scarcity are with us today—we already have climate change refugees in America
The gun lobby’s mere ability to stifle any reasonable efforts toward tackling the epidemic of gun violence is the greatest obstacle we face in dealing with gun safety and strong policing of existing laws.
We need leaders with the courage to stand for secure borders, but also who will enforce it in a humane way in accordance with our American values. No mother should be separated from her child.

"that’s very important, and that’s going to be my message – the things that Kentuckians voted for Trump for are not being done. He’s not able to get it done because of Senator McConnell."-Amy McGrath
Even Thom doesn't go that far in endorsing trump...yikes. I'd give you a point for out of contyext if she didn't spell out to KY that she's going to assist trump in completing his agenda, and went so far as to paint McConnell as blocking trump's true wishes. ^Its not really worth it,
^Its not really worth it, Dise. People like Ned and others on this thread just see a "blue" candidate. They don't actually have a clue of what the fuck these candidates stand for or the basis of their campaigns and haven't really the faintest idea of what they are talking about. Very similar to the republican POV on candidacy. Ask any "red" voter and they will claim the same shit. For McGrath this is just an opportunity because she is running against a news media villain and all around hated politician. If it wasn't for McConnell then no one would ever have heard her name spoken around the country. My take on Democrat's and Republicans is this: Republicans look you in the face and tell you they are gonna rail you in the rear. Dems tell you they won't and wait till you are sleeping to do it. They are all trash. Lot of progressive candidates are also going to take the money and run as well in the future. Bernie is not at all exempt from that either. He can get caught believing his own bullshit too and then he can look very foolish as well. There is no knight in shining armor who will help us. We have to come together and work in unity to achieve the things that we want. Any new party or new candidate will just be another fuck toy for the rich and powerful or they won't get the vote.

I do not see ole Joe
I do not see ole Joe seriously moving on Cannabis or any other "progressive" issue(s) unless he absolutely has to budge. Joe is running circles around tRump in 'the suburbs' so that should not really be a worry for him. The trouble is HIM and he seems to be fishing for a VP whom would not try to pull him in such a direction either. Canna, for example, has been polling increasingly strong over several years, particularly Medical, and his comeback when pressed on it during the primaries was something along the lines of, "Yes, we need to go after the dealers." The guy is out of touch and that is unlikely to change. He is not any type of savior or transformative political figure. He is only in a lucky spot and very popular when compared to the basic shit stain alternative in the current cycle.

Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders Deepen Their Cooperation
Allies of the onetime presidential rivals revealed a long list of policy proposals. Most were widely acceptable to liberals, and some were broader than Mr. Biden’s plans during the primary campaign.
Allies of Joseph R. Biden Jr. and Senator Bernie Sanders unveiled a sweeping set of joint policy recommendations on Wednesday, a significant if tentative sign of cooperation among Democrats as Mr. Biden’s campaign continues its appeals to the progressive left.

Bernie is no dumbie. This is a very positive step and shows some creative and critical thinking. Biden is sort of a dumbie so he was smart to go along with the blueprint and show some semblance of cohesion, even if a bit coerced. Defeating tRump will take positive moves like this even though, clearly, nobody gets exactly what or everything that they want. Baby steps or incremental change is still change or at least a movement in a more positive direction, TOGETHER.

I think that article shows that a Biden is no dummie. He went to Bernie. He built the task-forces. He approved the policy recommendations on it out of them. He moved many of his policies to the left. I also guess that it isn't just lip service, and those will become his policies.

100% lip service -- all fake,
100% lip service -- all fake, just vote for biden who represents mega corporations, b/c trump -- we'll take the left for granted b/c trump
no m4a, gnd, jobs, cannabis, the list goes on. we'll cover all of this next election, we just need to beat the republicans now. nope. not this time. represent what the people want, earn that vote, or you don't get the vote. very simple.
man bernie bending over backwards for biden, w/ literally nothing to show, is sad.
incrementalism doesn't work, it's why we are where we are.
he's already lining up the signing of the TPP. so funny.
the bar is now so dangerously low, that biden doesn't have to move on anything his DNC and corporate masters don't want him to.
biden wants you to have the "right" to choose a private insurance plan, lol, but doesn't want people to have the human right to honest healthcare.
during a pandemic.
and centrists are all like, he's the best man for the job.
its actually disgusting.

we knows he's nowhere near best or better -- he's just the right guy to make the old white people feel safe for a little longer, the rich feel safe for another run, etc etc.
just like trump.

I do not want to argue but are you confirming that you are 'out' (not voting for him) if he does not end up with Warren as VP, despite the areas of necessary attention that you referenced?
In my view and perspective, Warren's likely best chances of being in any potential Biden administration would probably be leading Treasury or Education.

Yes - Even Biden knows that and has focused on that small grip of swing states...while tRump is stunningly spending large sums in GOP-safe places on top of the newly minted "swing states" of AZ, GA, and possibly TX and problematic Senate seats in CO, NC, and KS. tRump is stupid, stubborn, and/or not listening to the advice for which he is also paying obscenely big money. Likely all 3 and then some.

I seem to recall Biden already stating that he'd only serve one term so his VP pic should be super solid with good prospects for at least 2 more cycles and, yes, I would also much prefer a progressive in that role. Our system is tarnished and corrupted but not unsalvageable.

Given that tRump would appear to do ANYTHING to get re-elected, I wonder if he'll feel desperate enough to go for it and try for fed descheduling, decriminalization, widespread medical, or full legalization. I know it seems to be popular enough but would that be enough for folks to vote for him whom otherwise would not? Single or narrow-issue voters are interesting but, for me, that would still be a resounding NO.

FRANKFORT, KY—In an effort to ensure every last cent of the raised $84 million was put to good use, defeated Democratic Senate candidate Amy McGrath reportedly blew her remaining campaign funds Wednesday on a lavish concession bonanza. “We may not have beat Mitch McConnell last night, but this grassroots movement isn’t finished—we’re taking it to Dubai, Monaco, and hitting up the casinos in Singapore,” said McGrath, who reminded the crowd not to forget to pick up their Fabergé egg gift bags near the front gate between the second dolphin pool and Kylie Jenner selfie station. “I’d be nothing without my amazing team of staff, volunteers, the Bengal tiger trainers, Madonna, and the dozens of Playboy bunnies passing out Dom Pérignon. And of course, above all else, I’d like to thank my family and U2, who were very expensive to book and fly in privately so be sure to check them out after the Blue Angels show.” At press time, McGrath had peeled away from the blowout in a brand-new yellow Bugatti as $2 million worth of fireworks spelling out ‘Resist!’ exploded in the sky.
