No, I don't live there anymore and likely wouldn't under pretty much any circumstances . The middle class has been leaving New York due to taxes since the 80's. I said he has presidential qualities, I didn't say he should be the president. And I don't care so much about the big bad rapists and murderers, NY has shoved this exact brand of fear mongering it down its residents' throats literally my whole life (I'm 40). Thanks for the reminder, not much changes I suppose. Great place to be from. Stay safe out there.
>>>>The middle class has been leaving New York due to taxes since the 80's
i don't believe that. Do you have any evidence to back up that the middle class has been leaving New York for the last 40 years? They must be all gone by now wouldn't you think?
Yes, the middle class have mostly evaporated and the wealth gap has exploded in our lifetimes in this country Bucky. Certainly you can research that if you need to. It will probably lead you to Bernie, eventually. Lol

It will probably be at least 8-12 years before there's a viable Progressive candidate. Until then, what would the far left be willing to compromise with in a more center Democratic candidate?
I think the issue is that a lot of people aren't willing to compromise on certain issues such as health care or workers pay/rights. These thing aren't political talking points. They are basic human necessities in today's society. Most of all people are sick of being lied to by people who think they can get away with it and play you for a fool. It seems that 99.9% of politicians have this character trait.
>It will probably be at least 8-12 years before there's a viable Progressive candidate.<
based on?
look nothing really will or can change in our nation until the concept that corporations are people is defeated, but considering our supreme court stacked with federalist society appointments, that is unlikely...
oh and the grerrymandering/voter supression thing too...
That, Timpane, is what makes them politicians. I'll add that anyone who wants to be the President of the US, the most powerful person in the world, has a screw or two loose. Who in their right mind wants that kind of responsibility and power? In 2020 there's a spectrum of nutso. Bernie is on one end of it, Klobuchar, Mayor Pete, Biden, Beto and the likes are in the middle, and then you have Hillary, Obama, Rubio and Cruz. On the far other end to a Trump. But they are all on the same spectrum. Maybe the only person who wasn't on it was Carter.
Would a starting compromise be someone who will push a $15 minimum wage, campaign finance reform, and a set pathway to universal healthcare? It's going to be a bit of a process to get to M4A, and perhaps someone who is so hard line on it right now will actually set it back. It will happen, but it will take a bit of time, diplomacy and finageling.
Well, there are 535 seats in both houses of Congress. Less than 125 are held by progressives. Only one or two are in the senate. I just think that the Progressive revolution has to start at the local level to take hold, not at the top. I figure that in 8-12 years the Progressive ideals will be more mainstream, understood and accepted. That's when someone like AOC can step in.
But you're absolutely right that gerrymandering and voter suppression make it awful hard for progressive urban centers, especially in the South and Bible Belt, to elect the Congress-people that represent their views.
That's just my opinion. I could be totally wrong, and maybe I am. Maybe it's only 4 years.
Percoco, former top aide to Cuomo, starts serving his prison sentence
Percoco had many official and unofficial titles over the years. Right-hand man to Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo was the constant.
On Friday morning, Percoco got a new title: Inmate Number 78132-054.
The former top government, political and personal adviser to Cuomo, whom the governor once likened as a brother, reported to Otisville federal prison in Orange County Thursday to begin serving a six-year sentence he received in his 2018 corruption conviction.
On Friday morning, the Federal Bureau of Prisons updated its inmate locater page to include Percoco as a member of its system.
I'm really bummed about today's events. Likely the end of his career. On one hand I trust the women accusing him, on the other hand it's hard to believe he did anything intentionally wrong.

I think it's a fair bet that we'll be seeing Gavin Newsom (or Gavin The Good as some call him) taking a hard run for the Big Chair in four years.
He used to annoy me, as most politicians do, but my cousin knows him and worked with him in SF and she really likes him.
My cousin is very cool and a good judge of people (she's also a nun) so despite being a politician I give Newsom a break.
