Crozier’s memo asked permission to isolate much of his 5,000-member crew on shore in Guam to stem the spread of the virus aboard the Theodore Roosevelt. “Sailors do not need to die,” he wrote.
The Navy did ultimately act, announcing the removal of 2,700 sailors from the ship.
Within a day, Crozier joined their ranks, disembarking the aircraft carrier to a waiting sedan after being relieved of command. In his wake, hundreds of sailors cheered the captain, according to several videos subsequently published on social media.

Got this in an email from
Got this in an email from family memebr who's retired USN officer.
I'm not endorsing his thoughts, just putting them here for some insight within the walls...
"Not sure what to think on that one. The Navy is “Mission first, People always”. Definitely don’t like the leak to the press, but respect the CAPT as he probably knew he was sacrificing his first star and going terminal on his career.
On the other hand, there are cruise ships that have been at sea for a while too...
Not a whole lot of infrastructure in Guam and very hot/humid so you can’t just dump 5000 sailors ashore and keep them within the fenced pier area. I’ve been on those piers - there’s not a lot of infrastructure, then trying to separately berth and mess all those sailors while keeping them quarantined from shore personnel. Probably not a whole lot of PPE out there in Guam and test kits would be hard to come by. Tough situation all the way around, but that’s why the CAPT in command afloat has so much authority.
Lots of mixed feelings on this one, but I’m not upset that the Acting SECNAV made the call and held himself publicly accountable for it.
Looking forward to everyone else’s thoughts...
I hope you all are doing well here - we’re safe and healthy!"

The person who should have
The person who should have been fired was the one who decided it was a good idea to dock the carrier in Vietnam during a pandemic. Pretty sure that wasn't the captain.

“[Acting Navy Secretary
Gen. Milley: Navy Had Reason to Believe Crozier Operated Outside Chain of Command
“[Acting Navy Secretary Thomas] Modly is the responsible, accountable official to the American people. And he had reason to believe that the captain operated outside the chain of command and he relieved him,” Milley told Fox News’s Outnumbered Overtime on Friday.
Milley said there is an ongoing investigation into what happened, but he trusted Modly and his judgment and would support him.
He added, “The secretary of the Navy is responsible to the American people for the good order and discipline of the Navy. And when he loses trust and confidence in a ship’s captain, then that’s it. It’s target down. And we’re moving on to the next, to the next task.”
By going public with his complaints, Crozier essentially sent a giant banner up into the sky announcing to America’s enemies that one of the primary weapons in America’s arsenal might be out of commission. You can see, therefore, why the Navy took a very dim view of Crozier bypassing the chain of command to announce that he had a problem.
https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2020/04/theres_another_side_to_the_...
[snip]
Modly said Crozier had cc’ed more than 20 people, including some outside the chain of command, over unsecured and unclassified systems, assuring the memo’s leak.
He also said Crozier did not speak to his direct superior, carrier strike group commander Rear Adm. Stuart Baker, about his concerns before sending the memo, despite Baker being on the carrier and living within feet of Crozier.
Modly said Crozier was not fired for expressing concerns, but the way he chose to do so.

Thomas you don’t know jack fucking shit about the military.
The commander did the right thing because he was being pushed back against by his leadership. I know Milley’s statement said he bypassed, and he did. It just wasn’t the first move he made. He knew the consequences 100%.

Wondering why that smoldering piece of shit still gets reactions here. We all know what a complete failure as a human being he is. The fact that he is a deadhead and has good musical sense, has long ago stopped being a factor. Sometimes I think he drums up the most ignorant takes on the planet just to get reactions here. No-one could be that ignorant and heartless in real life. I mean if you want to react to stupidity, turn on fox news and throw a brick at your TV. But don't give this piece of shit the time of day.
