Next week. 20 candidates split into two groups of 10 on two separate nights. They tried to avoid the "kiddie table" with random assignments, but looks like most of the heavy hitters still got lumped together on one of the nights.

A word of caution on Biden. There is a going to be a fine line to walk in the upcoming primary between pointing out his weaknesses and how out of touch he is and trashing the guy so much that if he gets the nomination (which could happen), he would be already so maligned and bruised that progressives and independents offer only lackluster support or don't show up at all during the general election.

You do realize that Hillary
You do realize that Hillary got more votes in the Primary than Bernie, right?
If Bernie beats out Biden, he will get the nomination. If Warren gets more than Bernie, she will get the nomination. Votes matter.
To answer your question again - No, because as I've already stated, Biden isn't my first choice. It's not a matter of "the best the democrats have to offer" it's up to the voters.
You have a beef with Biden, then blame the voters who vote for him in the primaries, or better yet work to get your first choice elected. The goal is to defeat Trump, right?

Yes, I do know that.
Yes, I do know that.
You do understand the reason she got more votes than Bernie is because the party rigged the process in her favor, right? Anyways, and again, Democrat voters across the 50 states don’t decide who the nominee is, the DNC ultimately does. Call me crazy if you want, I simply don’t trust the DNC to put forth the very best candidate... Should I? Why? Being quite serious here.
(maybe similar to the reason the repukes won’t primary trump?)
Yes, of course the goal is to defeat Trump. And the last three presidential elections have clearly shown we aren’t living in the age of status-quo voting anymore. It’s not a beef, it’s that running Biden vs Trump is like starting off the Indy 500 already needing an oil change and a brake job. Joe is like the Mike Pence of Democrats, he just wears a better looking suit.
this is about who has the backbone and the balls to go nose to nose with trump. I see at least half the field in front of joe in that lineup.

Ken raises a good point about
Ken raises a good point about Biden. I think he would have tremendous problems in the general explaining his 90's record, which sounds like straight GOP-- lock up black and brown people, streamline deportations and the death penalty, cut welfare, and then in the 2000's, protect credit card debt from small but bankruptcy. He has a LOT of baggage that the GOP will use to skewer him and normalize their own current positions. I completely accept that his positions and understanding of issues have evolved, and I genuinely believe that he is a decent person. I'd vote for him x100 over that soulless sack of shit Trump. I also agree that this whole "everyone is corrupt and sucks ass except the one person I choose" mindset is what could easily lose us this election by poisoning the pool.
To be fair to the DNC, they made some major changes post Hillary, most notably in stripping "superdelegates" of their electoral votes unless there is a contested convention. It used to be that if Gov. X endorsed you, that got added to your pile of electoral votes, giving the impression that you were winning more actual votes than you were. The people who had those votes are hella pissed, including the Congressional Black Caucus. Now an endorsement is just a thumbs up atta boy, not a pile of electoral votes. The DNC will always lean toward the establishment but this is a pretty major positive step that gives the regular voters more power.

For those who may not have
For those who may not have known quite what Julian Castro was getting at when he talked about 1325... 8 USC 1325 makes it a misdemeanor to enter the country outside a port of entry or by making a false claim of right to enter. I used to work on the border and this provision wasn't invoked much, but this is the mechanism that Trump has been using the separate families, by declaring "no tolerance" and putting parents into criminal jails, where they cannot house kids, to prosecute them for misdemeanors. Other administrations, republican and democrat, have more efficiently simply deported people without splitting up families or the need for long term housing. Lest someone think that revoking 8 USC 1325 would result in "open borders", anyone who enters the US unlawfully after having been deported already is guilty of a felony, punishable by 2 years. If that person has a qualifying prior criminal record, they can go to prison for up to 10 years. These offenses have traditionally where the DOJ had focused its resources. Castro did not suggest getting rid of section 1326 aka "illegal entry after deportation".
I realized that half the country probably had no idea what this exchange was about.

Everyone has to decide for
Everyone has to decide for themselves whether to vote with their actual beliefs or to try to guess who is a the best candidate to beat Trump. I want to beat Trump but I think that Trump's victory on its own is testimony that no one can definitively say who or what would succeed or fail against Trump in this brave new world. I already see the "I'm really left but I vote centrist" faction trying as hard as they can to diss the progressive candidates. And the progressives have their own spite for the centrists and are happy to eat the young of the democratic party. We should knock all that off, let the process play out, and then get behind the winner. Learn to discuss policy differences, or election strategy, without making it seem like everyone except for your chosen candidate is a total loser. Be open minded. If you don't agree with someone about everything maybe you can find a thing or two that you do like, especially as compared to the current administration.
So far, I'm in Camp Warren, but I am also assessing the more centrist candidates. However, I think this long term strategy of the dems to go as centrist as possible has cost them dearly in the last few election cycles. That said, while I have expressed my reservations about Biden's electability as compared to other centrists, but I truly believe that he is a better and more honorable person than the worst of his record would suggest. So far, I think that's true with most of the candidates, including Kamala Harris, who has been a dastardly prosecutor (because that's the job description), but should be given a lot more consideration by the centrist camp. This will be a long journey and I think we shouldn't be at each other's throats just yet. Assume everyone is acting in good faith and let's see where this goes.
Fuck Gillibrand though. :) :):)

You should vote as far left
You should vote as far left as you want in the Primaries. That is what Primaries are for. My problem with Bernie aren’t his policies it’s the fact the he continues to talk about the Primaries being rigged. He did such a great job of moving the conversation to the left. He energized millions of people who didn’t pay attention before and then because of his own ego he crushed that enthusiasm with this stupid meme. Even this week he has refused to say whether he will support the eventual nominee, and for that I will always say fuck him. He is a narcissistic baby approaching Trumpian levels.
The way our elections are set up - in the general election you get two choices. I know it sucks. I don’t like it either, but all the clever sayings about the lesser of two evils is still evil doesn’t change the fact that - in a winner take all system you only get two choices. You get to vote for the person you agree with a little bit or the other person, and if you don’t vote or you vote for some third party Russian hack like Jill Stein you are still voting for one of the two people, because only one of those two people will win. It’s just math.

Harris was a prosecutor, so
Harris was a prosecutor, so of course she put people in cages, that was was her job. Every friend you had who worked for the cops or the DA's office because they wanted to "change things from the inside" has gotten paid to put people in cages. But I don't think Harris' record was that much worse than any other head of a prosecutor's office, with the exception of some of the true great reformer prosecutors. If you can't vote for a prosecutor then you couldn't have voted for Bobby Kennedy or Patrick Leahy. Congress is loaded with former prosecutors. I try to avoid prosecutors as much as possible in my personal life, but I love how everyone clutches their pearls when someone who is running for president has done a job that includes having to do some unsavory shit. These are the same people who were scandalized that Hillary successfully defended an indigent man accused of a sex crime. The democrats will forever lose because they have unrealistic expectations of purity from their candidates. If you are going for a centrist, they probably have done some bad shit in their lives. Or you can have Donald Trump who never did anything wrong.
I'd argue that Biden was worse because he was integral in changes to law which not only impacted the federal system but influenced state laws around the country for decades.

IMO the foreign policy issues tulsi raises are more important than domestic racism/sexism/bigotry issues and identity politics. we are literally blowing up peoples homes and killing children and devastating entire nations, and we are supposed to discount the only candidate running on the platform of ending these terrorist policies because david duke likes her??? what???
if trump was actually an anti interventionist as he claimed in 2016, and if trump was enacting the foreign policy changes tulsi is trumpeting, i would vote for trump in 2020. i would just like to not be a citizen of an imperialist terrorist superpower, and if to get there i had to put up with trump grabbing some pussies or being an ass, that would be A-OK with me. unfortunatley trump is continuing our imperialist policies, as expected...but i just dont see how any issue could be bigger than the USA pulling the puppet strings of the world, starting covert wars to topple democratically elected governments we disagree with, and bombing countries to support US financial interests. we are the bad guys here and they like to dress it up like we are trying to save people from tyranny. the USA is literally Danerys Targaryen at the end of Game of Thrones...it seems like she was a good guy, fighting tyranny, but when you take a step back and look at the devastation, she was the main villian the whole time. how can david duke even be on the radar in this situation?

Looking at the early primary
Looking at the early primary polling I just don’t see a path for Biden. He is sitting at 32% (pre debate). As the next six candidates down the list drop out their support is going to consolidate around one of the progressive candidate not Biden. He will pick up the support from candidates like Klobuchar and Bennet but they are all polling at barely 1%. His only hope is to keep lots of progressive in the race deep into the primary splitting that vote and winning states.
Betting today I would have to put my money on Warren.
Biden 32%
Warren 18%
Sanders 18%
Harris 7%
O’Rourke 3%
Buttigieg 5%
Booker 4%
Klobuchar 1%
Castro 2%
Yang 1%

Is Yang's UBI once a month?
Is Yang's UBI once a month? If it is once a year that doesn't really do much to address the issue of job loss. If its once a month, that's rad.
My first beef with Gabbard is that I don't think she's actually anti-war. I do appreciate that she isn't a fan of random regime change and she doesn't want to leave US soldiers in harms way forever. That's good. However, she's fine with drone strikes, oppressive dictators, and bombing people who she would call "extremist" muslims, which, as we all know, is whatever the speaker wants it to be. This explains why Boeing and Lockheed Martin are big supporters of hers. I also didn't agree with her characterization of questioning a judicial nominee about his ties to the Knights of Columbus, a very politically active, very anti-abortion and anti-gay Catholic organization as "religious bigotry". It was a totally legit line of questioning. Given that she blames her own (not too far) past anti-gay activism on her own religious upbringing, I get the feeling that she might be sympathetic to actual religious bigotry.
This doesn't make her the worst candidate in the world and if she wins the nomination I'll give her a shot over Trump. But I'm not going to sign on as a fan at this juncture.

>>>>His only hope is to keep

That's how Trump was able secure the nomination in 2016. Many Republicans were dismissive of Trump before the primary and just assumed that the Never Trumpers would rally around one candidate. During the early primaries, he was polling in the mid 30% range, but Cruz, Rubio, and Kasich all stuck it out well into the primaries, thereby splitting the non-Trump vote and allowing him to score primary victory after primary victory with just a modest plurality until it was too late for his opponents.
If Warren, Harris, and Mayor Pete all hang in there until Super Tuesday, Biden has a clear path to victory. I think that is why he is not attempting to pander to the progressive wing of the party as demonstrated by his doubling down on the busing issue last night.

Well the last 2 nights were interesting. I think I found something to agree with for every candidate. And I think every candidate said something that really bothered me(with Bernie it was just his attitude and unwillingness to answer the questions). The blond lady,(Gillibrand?) really hit the mark on corruption in our gov't. I was impressed and that is something I want to hear. But most everything else she said(and has done) was very disappointing. But I do agree that very little that we want will happen as long as this gov't is so corrupted. I like Yang alot. I like Kamala more than I did before. Mayor Pete came off well but I don't think he is electable. Booker came off like a madman. Beto made some good points but did not come off strong. I liked what Inslee had to say but don't think he is strong enough all around. Castro made some progress but there is something about him I don't trust. Tim Ryan came off almost a buffoon. He's toast. Hickenlooper seems to be a dick. Diblasio is all about NY. Good luck with that. The rest? I don't even know why they were there.
