Cinnamon Raisin Bread - Yay or Nay?

Forums:

Anything other than toasted, as an occasional breakfast diversion?

Yay. Just pick out the raisins,  to my taste.

Jaz, I got a whole loaf of this stuff... that's a lot of work...and then what do I do with all those lonely, newly homeless raisins?  Make a breakfast port?

If I did not like raisins I would not buy raisin bread. Just use "regular" bread , toast, and add cinnamon and butter. Voila - cinnamon toast.

Yay

hey stay on topic Knot -- we are not discussing generic bread....we are talking that odd loaf of cinnamon raisin bread. What does Oprah say about that?

I mean were the raisins originally rotten grapes, so they added cinnamon to disguise the taste, or was this concoction a sweet treat for the kids - sorta like a cake for breakfast?

And is there anything else to do with it besides toast it?....I guess you could make a French toast

I don't write that kind of stuff. Sorry.

It's OK for french toast but a little dense - sourdough is still best for frying.

^ surfs got it.  Make a bunch of French Toast. Use the leftovers for egg sammies.

Bread pudding

Only for a pastrami and American cheese/ mayo sandwich.

You got me at cinnamon

Ew. No.

Unless it's a bagel and there's no other bagel available. But that's just because bagels rock.

Wait, I'm thinking cinammon bagels. They don't have raisins, do they? So just plain ew, then.

So that's it...basically a one recipe food?... Step 1 : stick in toaster/oven Step 2. remove and serve

Bread and pudding - two foods that don't belong together unless you are in a prison cell in an English castle in the 1600s

Years ago I worked at a bagel joint. Fruit has absolutely no place in or on a bagel, with one exception: a cinnamon raisin bagel, fresh out of the oven, smothered in butter and honey, is heavenly!

Bread and breaded edibles,  yep, the good stuff.

I threw up a shit ton of raisins once.

So I rarely touch them.

If it has frosting on the crust.

Just so you know I'm stealing that. I've expressed my opinion on bread pudding before but never so quite eloquently.

we used to chew raisins and peyote together...  raisins sort of cut the bitterness. sort of.

I used to consume dried Cubensis by putting pieces between 2 slices of bread with some cheese and tomato and trying to convince myself the shrooms were chewy bacon.

Don't let the Dog eat it.  Raisins & Grapes are toxic for Doggies.  I like the stuff with a slice of Prosciutto.

lol Surf.  Bacoomers/Boomcon?

As turns out, boomers taste like nothing when eaten right after a half hour of chewing a bitter peyote/raisin cud*.

*we discovered that if we swallowed only the peyote juice (and no chunks), we would not puke.  It's a ton of work, but well worth it. And raisins or other dried fruit is a must in this process.  Just wish our button source hadn't dried up.

Yay all day.  Just had some this morning.  I order bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches on raisin toast.  So good.

That totally works.

Toasted with a little cinnamon and butter, that's the ticket.

I use it to make PB&J's at drug band festivals.

Hmmm, maybe grilled cheese next time

The problem is that it has one foot in door of being a pastry and the other foot being a "regular bread"; as a result, it isn't quite all there on the sweet end of things and at the same time is "compromised" for the traditional role that bread normally takes along with eggs, bacon, hash browns.   Shoveling up some eggs & ketchup on c&r bread just doesn't work IMO
