Guitar solos in non-live recordings are an interesting animal. When a solo is played live it can and does change over time. Not so with a solo done in the studio for release. For it to be great it has to blow your socks off every time you hear the song. The song, and solo, that got me thinking about this is Matthew Sweet's Sick of Myself with Richard Lloyd of Television fame. Lloyd has provided any number of ultra tasty guitar licks over time but, to my ears, this is the one that always wows me. I remember hearing an advance copy of the album this song from 100% Fun and while giddy with this kick off number, was grinning like a fool with the solos multiple false ending.

I thought I posted a mea culpa earlier about the Dusters cut. I didn't pay enough attention to the "not live" part of the qualification. What the hell - good solo anyway.
Lance, mentioning Blow By Blow hit the jackpot with me. "'Cause We Ended As Lovers " is just one reason.
And hard to pick just one of Knofler's solos. Europa by Santana is superb.

One of my favorites is from
One of my favorites is from Jimmy Page and the band Led Zeppelin with the song “Since I’ve Been Loving You” off of their album titled “Led Zeppelin III”.
There’s a good reason why at the 3:40 mark of this song that lead singer Robert Plant tells us all to “watch out” and that is because Jimmy is about to kill all of us with a searing solo that clocks in at 1 minute and 20 seconds of sheer guitar wizardry.
Have a listen for yourself ————> https://youtu.be/N_lSJ-0Gl7Q
