I just watched a video of his, Connected by Love. That one was not my cup of tea, but what's not to get (per subject). Why don't you suggest another video, Mark
I listened to Alone in My Home, found it sort of 2-dimensional. Tried another, they don't do it for me. It sounds like the stuff my best friend listened to in the late '70s/early '80s, sort of rough sounding pop. Not raunchy enough, nor free enough.
Hate Jack White. Have you seen the Rolling Stones movie Shine A Light? The fake southern accent he uses on Loving Cup is cringeworthy. Sums up the guy pretty well: FAKE
I thought so 73, but folks have commented that they would like butter with the toast, or would prefer rye. Lance stated he would prefer one chicken, as opposed to four.
This is for science, so I felt it important to clarify.
Judit, check out the raconteurs, it is then only white project that I've found tolerable. Although, I prefer the songs Benson penned
>>Hate Jack White. Have you seen the Rolling Stones movie Shine A Light? The fake southern accent he uses on Loving Cup is cringeworthy. Sums up the guy pretty well: FAKE
Hate and fake? Strong words. He's certainly not for everybody.
Anyway, I'm a fan and one must stop by Third Man Records if you're in Nashville. I like most of his other projects and solo records more than The White Stripes.
Love Jack White, he made one of the all time best "young guy gets to produce a legend" albums with Loretta Lynn. Runner up in this category is Tweedy's work with Mavis Staples.
The only part of that ill conceived 'it might get loud' documentary about jack white, the edge and jimmy page I enjoyed was the very beginning where white makes a single string lap slide out of a plank of wood, pick up, coke bottle, couple nails and some string: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=r_F7aiOvdwE
Anyone see any of that 'American epic' series on PBS white helped produce where they get a wide array of cool musicians to cover old roots music on antique recording equipment?
Kinda liked the first white stripes album. Stopped listening pretty much after the seven nation army thing. Hear some stuff from him here and there and mostly dislike it.
I was just looking into a possible CO backpack trip... it's lookin' like another drought/bad fire year here, so the Sierra might be smoked out come Sept. Maroon Bells area looks pretty awesome.
>I guess it's the age when soulful music becomes important to you and you start saying things like "this music has no soul<
I have no opinion on White's soul, but Bonamassa is a soulless vampire. And I still listen to bands like husker du and dead Kennedys, so I am not necessarily looking for soulful music
In the flick "It Might Get Loud," with Jack, The Edge and Jimmy Page, my personal opinion about the whole damn thing was why they hell did they bother to involve Jack and The Edge...
>>In the flick "It Might Get Loud," with Jack, The Edge and Jimmy Page, my personal opinion about the whole damn thing was why they hell did they bother to involve Jack and The Edge...
My opinion is the whole concept was nonsense and shoulda been scrapped, but I'm tellin ya white comes of the most likable by far.
>>>Post Meg he's surrounded himself with better musicians but it misses the WS x-factor,
Very interesting observation, and I'm inclined to agree.
I've enjoyed his solo albums (and really, really enjoyed his live performances with his post-Stripes bands), but yeah; there is definitely something missing from the songwriting that seemed granted with the Stripes.
Sometimes I wish I kept up more with the "newer" artists... but then I'll start listening, it's almost always pop, and formula is best for babies... I'm glad folks share their faves here, sometimes that's a nice shortcut to what others are currently enjoying.... but, sadly, just don't have the time to research pop (I love improv), and I'll usually see the above folks on award shows, late night TV, etc... besides, I just got King Crimson live in Chicago, can hardly wait to put it on! So looks like I better be getting me some fried chicken and coke...
Not in the cross-sectional anatomy I'd see daily doing Cat Scans... the soul (ghost of an old lady), was a resident 30 feet down the hall in the dressing rooms
>>>Check out the Weminuche Wilderness Area west of Lake City. Vast. Sparse.
Yeah, the Bells area seems like it compares to Yosemite... extreme crowds, but has to be seen at least once, whereas the Weminuche looks more like what I go for in the Sierra:
or wait and do the Bells when I'm too old to hike more than 25 miles.
Currently looking at 'lollipop' route from Rio Grande Reservoir: Ute Creek West trail>Continental Divide Trail>Vallecito Trail>Rock Creek Tail>Ute Creek East.
How concerned should I be about getting a heavy (Donner party-esque) snow storm in early September?
He actually recruited a bunch of Jay-Z's backing band, plus some of the other players he's been with for the last 6+ years. Not totally clear on exactly what the lineup will look like, but I'm excited.
our pbs station has a 2 hour American Epic Sessions special coming on at 9 tonight w/jack white, t-bone burnette, beck, los lobos, nas, alabama shakes, willie nelson, taj mahal & others something something recreating the muiscal past using a recording lathe........ looks interesting

My opinion is the whole concept was nonsense and shoulda been scrapped, but I'm tellin ya white comes of the most likable by far.

Strangely enough, the White Stripes, despite Meg being a terrible drummer, were pretty damn good.
Post Meg he's surrounded himself with better musicians but it misses the WS x-factor, and many times borders on annoying.

Very interesting observation, and I'm inclined to agree.
I've enjoyed his solo albums (and really, really enjoyed his live performances with his post-Stripes bands), but yeah; there is definitely something missing from the songwriting that seemed granted with the Stripes.

I more liked the KDTU instrumental, funkifized cover of '7 nation army'.
Thanks, y'all.

Yeah, the Bells area seems like it compares to Yosemite... extreme crowds, but has to be seen at least once, whereas the Weminuche looks more like what I go for in the Sierra:
