meltdown

Just think about how much colder this World Series would've been if it were Cubs v. Yankees.

Probably a 20-30 degree difference?

I'm rooting for Curtis Granderson, a class act, to get a ring.

Otherwise, no doots to give.

I fear the Dodgers will roll in 5 or 6 games.

I know the Astros are damn good and you never know in a 7 game series, but the Dodgers are so versatile and deep, and they've been building toward this moment for a long time. I just think this is their year.

Now, will their fans show up on such a hot day?

GO BASEBALL!!!

We're taking a knee in the parking lot until the third.

I thought LA fans left in the third to beat traffic.

Now, will their fans show up on such a hot day? <<

When you spend Coin on Tickets and pack Your wallet for parking and concessions a D Gear and It's The World Series = To The Gills.

I figure the place will be full, especially after so many years not being in the WC, but things have changed in LA and I've read from a few media types, even an LA reporter, who thinks it will be the usual late in-leave early scene.

But I agree, IMO the money and the moment will bring them out.

Along with all those damned beach balls.

Giants fans never have to work.

Go get 'em Houston!

But either way I'm good with whoever wins. I just hope it's exciting.

granderson left off series roster for an extra arm--Brandon McCarthey

if they win, he obviously still gets a ring, but will it have same meaning??

astros in 6

granderson left off series roster for an extra arm--Brandon McCarthey<<

Well that sucks.  But I get it.  CG can come up Goat as easily as Hero.

Streaky 'n all.

>>>Probably a 20-30 degree difference?

More like 50-60 degree difference in Chicago and rainy. Bear weather.

Go Stros!

pretty cool, game live on you tube

Taylor HR.

Expecting a long series. You have the best d in the league in Houston and then the best offense in LA. Usually the best d wins but La does have home field advantage. I think we are watching two best teams from each league battling it out. Should be exciting. If it comes down to a verlander/kershaw game seven that would be pretty epic,

Bregman HR tied 1-1

Nice!

turner made em pay for first walk....3-1, bottom 6

went to beach. recorded it. just finished.

let's go DODGERS!!

Aren’t you a Padres fan?

someone has a wedgie in the second pic.

Bad offense showing for Astros. After the dodgers wen ahead they pretty much just laid down and we're going through the motions. Don't be good enough to win this series. They have to do something. Lay down a bunt, steal a base or something. They need a road win. I get they're playing for a split but last night was exactly what the doc ordered for the dodgers

The Yankees gave me herpes......Let's go Dodgers

Padres?

never. i do like the brown/yellow uni's though....

i started going to dodger games as a kid in 76/77.

cey, garvey, lopes, baker, monday, yeager and all them...

this team is also something special. super cool group of players. scrappers, off-casts, rookies...and old vets. lots of work still to do.

Some zoners seem to have always thought u live in San Diego, turtle.

might b because you've expressed some allegiance to those stanky chargers in the past.

For me, I'm just glad it's two great teams in it.

If the Dodgers win, fine. Great team, incredible season, and it's been a while. Same for Houston, and that city could use some joy.

Let's have some great baseball to wrap it up.

i've never lived in sd county.....

ps. was anyone annoyed by the youtube add behind home plate? the arrow was like messing with me...looked like a paused video.

It did trip me out a bit but this is youtube's World Series, baby!

>>>was anyone annoyed by the youtube add behind home plate?

not as annoying as Kershaw's delivery.

kershaw should do a deoderant commercial...im actually surprised some company hasnt had him do one yet...thats a weird freakin windup...

those dodger teams from the 70 s , mentioned above, were my Dads favorites....he was an old brooklyn dodger fan, and had managed to keep rootin for Da Bums, along w the Red Sox, of course

i watched alot of games w garvey, lopes, russell, cey, baker, monday, ferguson, yeager etc., in my Dads last few years (75-78 he was reeeall sick, and we lost him in 78).., he had twice as many reasons as to why to hate the yankees as most of us..lol....so, ill always have special place in my heart for the Dodgers..i agree w above---just expectin to see some great games...ill be happy for whichever franchise, and city, that wins

Dodger World Series BallCap = $ 44 Dollars = My God What A Rip OFF ! no

One of the old Brooklyn Dodgers George "Shotgun" Shuba lived 3 houses away from my house when growing up in Youngstown, OH.

He was famous for a homeplate handshake with Jackie Robinson after Jackie hit his first homerun in the minors on April 18, 1946.

In the third inning, Robinson hit a three-run homer. As he came home after rounding the bases, Shuba, the next batter in the order, shook his hand as he crossed home plate, a gesture of acceptance. The image, captured in an Associated Press photograph that was widely distributed, came to be seen as an an image of racial harmony.

“I couldn’t care less if Jackie was Technicolor,” Shuba told Dave Stubbs of The Gazette of Montreal on the 60th anniversary of the handshake. “As far as I was concerned, he was a great ballplayer — our best. I had no problem going to the plate to shake his hand instead of waiting for him to come by me in the on-deck circle.

Robinson made his debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers the following season on his way to a Baseball Hall of Fame career. Shuba got to the parent Dodgers in 1948. He hit .305 in 1952 as the Dodgers won the National League pennant. In 1953, he became the first National league player to hit a pinch-hit home run in the World Series. In 1955, Shuba joined Robinson in celebrating Brooklyn’s first — and only — World Series victory.

George Thomas Shuba was born in Youngstown, Ohio, where his father, a Slovakian immigrant from Austria-Hungary, worked at a steel mill.

The famous Associated Press photograph as George Shuba greets Montreal teammate Jackie Robinson at home plate with a handshake. Robinson had just hit a three-run homer in his debut in Organized Baseball on April 18, 1946, at Roosevelt Stadium against the Jersey City Giants.

george-shuba-and-jackie-robinson-shake-hands-shot-from-behind-plate.jpg

This is the other Associated Press and probably most famous picture of the homeplate handshake. It needed to be restored & touched up because I think the only known print copy was slightly torn behind Jackie's left hand, the right field fence and at the bottom of Jackie's right leg.

Mr. Shuba was a great neighbor and I am still friends with his only son, Michael.   ~  RIP GEORGE "SHOTGUN" SHUBA  ~

Hoping for another close game. Don't exactly think this is a must win for the Astros but it would make the next three games must wins if they lose. Dodgers looked impeccable last night. Hard to beat if they pitch like that this series. I don't see Verlander losing tonight though.

Thanks for straightening me out turtle sorry about the confusion.

You are a Dodgers and Raiders fan.

LA Kings and Lakers too I assume?

lakers wizards after this game tonite...

john wall has three early season games cirlcled on his calander, this is one of them...

hoping for an Astro victory...Springer, Altuve HAVE to get on base....set the table etc..

Beat LA

Go Dodgers!

this move could bite dave roberts in ass....six out save for kenley in game 2??

if Astros can tie game up here, even get one run back, they ll at least have confidance they can score off closer....

The Astros REALLY needed to get that second run home there.

i think Roberts can consider himself ass bitten....

It's not unusual for Jansen to pitch two innings, but in the WS there is so much more intensity with every pitch it's asking a lot of any reliever. And the Astros are pretty good too.

I'd say that guy Fields isn't going to be getting any free dinners in LA tonight.

And damn that little Altuve is a great player.

Now can the 'Stros finish this one?

im not sure , lance, but i thought announcer said Jansen has one 6-out save in career, comin vs Cubs last year? but, i may be wrong...ill all know is that it seems whenever you change these guys (relievers) routines, its a slippery slope.

and , yes, holy crap is Altuve good! no way will Houston be able to pay Bregman, Correa, Altuve, and Springer for much longer---id love to see Altuve take over for Pedroia in Beantown...

wow! Puig just crushed one...great game...setting up a great series

So that would be...

No.

Closers matter.

wow...Kike has made himself just a cpl bucks in last week....

I don't know about 6-out saves, but I've seen Jansen come in against the Giants often in the 8th for 5 or 4 out saves.

But I agree, it's asking a lot in games like these.

Tonight is a real good National League game.

itll never happen...but i hate the DH, and wish theyd do away w it.

krazy!! here comes puig...

Wow.

That was one hell of a ballgame.

Too bad so many easties had to turn it off.

Or never turned it on.

If the Dodgers had won it would have been real tough for the Astros to come back.

Now it's a series, and it should get interesting.

two teams that won 100 games...i def think two best teams got here...after first two, it def has makings of a classic series...

8 homers....ball just jumping off bats w the heat...about game 1 homer, turner said on a normal night, the ball he hit out would barely have made it to warning track...should be a fun 3 in Houston

That was great!

That game was CRAZY!!!!!!

Wild game one for the ages

Closer in with no outs in 8th inning is no bueno!

Kimbrel now Jansen seems like Astros are like KC a couple years ago scoring runs late in games no matter who is pitching. Like Stroh's in 6.

Wow! Passed out around the 7th inning. Astros stole a close one. Going back to Houston for the next three where the Astros have been sensational. Houston is playing like the royals team a few year back. They never give up and it always seems like they could win any game. It may be a long three games for LA. Hope they can a win so we can see a potential game 6.

WOW

well that was a fuck up.

Buckle up. This is going to be a good one. Glad I'm not invested in either team.

GO ASTROS

game 3...

can they keep it going??

houston is rocking...0-0 after 1, 'Stros let a lead off double go to waste, but both teams hit some rockets for outs....

4-0 Astros bats are rolling

Dodgers in trouble

get yer shine box and beat it Yu...

shortest outing of Darvish' s career.

now McCullers cant find plate...wtf?

walking bases loaded is not really the way to come back out to mound after team puts 4 spot up...he needs a double play, BAD, right here

and...he got it!

great catch by Springer...(with eyes closed after dive i think...lol)...ball bouncing their way at home...

Ooof controversy

Yuli gives Yu the old slant eyes from the dugout after his HR and apparently that’s one of those things that isn’t “cool” to do anymore. Hopefully he won’t get sent back to Cuba.

houston up 2-1....

dilly, dilly...

Dare I ask an opinion question, but what do folks think of Smoltz as a color man?

I don't think he's too bad. Had a few good insights here and there. Doesn't seem to get in the way. Better than McCarver. Not as talkative as Romo.

i think Smltz is real good.

the pregame team is horrible...big popi, Arod, just terrible...frank thomas is weak..keith hernandez is a pro, but hardly can get a word in w these guys talkng over each other....

and, IMO, ROMO is terrible...cant blv he s getting rave reviews from tv ppl....

I don't listen to the talking heads at all.

I completely tune them out and just listen to the crowd or I turn the sound off.

series may never get back to L.A.

i really think tonite is a must win for LA, they cant go down 3-1. Astros should be loose, which makes them even more dangerous....ya, i think this series is over in 5, bumping it up from my original prediction of astros in 6....

I have the ability to only listen to the words I want to hear so sports announcing doesn’t bother me ever

john smoltz is very good btw

Darvish failed the Fodgers big-time last night. Last night was exactly why they got him and he laid a rotten egg. Now the pressure is huge on the next two starters for the Ugly Blue.

But that's what it's all about; who responds to the huge pressure.

Personally I think the Dodgers are too good to go down quietly.

But it wouldn't break my heart.

BTW, with everything these days all about the home run, which IMO especially on TV is boring to watch, it was great to see what really makes a championship last night; that double-play the Astros turned was absolutely brilliant, and absolutely clutch.

I could watch a replay of that 50 times and be entertained every time. It was art in motion, it saved the day for the 'stros, and that's why I love to watch sports at it's highest level.

Big-time stuff.

I'm hoping for more of that in the next few games. I love a good hit-&-run, a stolen base, a shot to the gap and a play at the plate. That's so much more exciting to watch than a long fly ball going over a wall.

GO BASEBALL!!!

NOTE My Team Is The California Angels  /  go ahead and Laugh

looks like we got a series...ok, houston cant win in 5, so, im back to original astros in 6...

dont make me go dodgers in 7 , Stros!

>series may never get back to L.A.<

goin' back to cali, to cali.....

Great series. Looking forward to a mother classic tonight. Pretty much a must win for Houston. At the same The way this series is going The Dodgers won't want to have to win two straight and go down 3-2 in the series. Pivotal game. Would love to see a game 7 and some November baseball so I'm rooting for the Astros.

Go Dodgers!

^thats so creepy

Sideshow Bob with a 3 run dinger off a round-eye

4-4

7-7 wow

doublewowwow

da na na, da na na....instant classic....8-8

11-8....

This is unbelievable. What a game. What a series.

The pitching in most of these games hasn't been World Series quality, and when you miss over the plate in games like these they're going to get whacked every time, but damn it sure does lead to entertaining games.

And damn that little Altuve. What a fucking hero.

this series is one for the ages

these are 100 win teams they just keep coming at you

#baseballphan

after Seagar ' s hit...making it 11-9...he and Altuve were talking and basically smiling etc at second base....reminds me of best series ever 1975, burleson and pete rose at third...game 7...rose basically  said "no matter who wins, this has been a lot of fun."

id guess that s what  Seagar-Altuve were saying

12-11 puig just went yard w one hand

mccanns homer differance now

unfreakinbeleavable...two strikes...

this guy basically got traded by Seattle for a bag of balls...he couldnt hit at all in Seattle...now, he could be a series mvp...he s been as good as anybody w clutch at bats, and playing every position in field

12-12

12-12 are you kidding me

12-12 what a game!

What a fun game to watch!

Sorry for the LA fans, very tough loss.

Tuesday should be fun. Looking forward to game 6.

Now that was a game

wow period. period. period.

DirecTV fucked us out of that great finish. Box reset itself with 3-2 count on McCann can back up minutes later with Houston celebrating

Fuck you DirecTV cheated me and my pops out of a great live finish for the ages

cancelling service soon

There's gonna' be an interesting ballgame to watch on Holloween night.

Far out.

That sucks Dan.

What a game!

WOW!

Go Astros!!!

thumb_0.jpg

Well, last night really settled one argument. Madison Bumgarner >>>>> Clayton Kershaw, who has given up 8 HR’s during these playoffs. You need your ace to step up in a pivotal game 5 and Kershaw didn’t do it. He failed at his ultimate test.

This vaunted Dodgers bullpen better wake the hell up if they want to give Vin Scully the send off he deserves. They really need to show some respect for Vin and the only way to show that is to win these last two games.

dude, that was fucking stressful...

should have won it....twice.

http://vivalazone.org/other-stuff/meltdown-level-check

Such a great game.

word now that the pitchers dont like the world series baseballs...same exact ball as regular season, w differant "special" logo etc...Verlander said they all could feel the differance , the balls all feel slick. Darvish didnt say it , but others said it prob effected his cutter and slider. Vrlander said balls were actually difficult to sign w ink pen...i expect wiley old vets , Verlander and McCann to "dirt" the crap out of the baseballs...Verlander tosses no hitter to close out classic series

Hahaha that's funny but Verlander ain't throwin a no no against this Dodgers team, especially with those balls which are obviously benefiting hitters. This series is going all the way to the wire with the Astros celebrating at Chavez Ravine on Wednesday with Altuve the MVP

Astros celebrating at Chavez Ravine on Wednesday <<

HA HA WRONG ! No Way In HELL That Is Happening In Los Angeles !!

Oh And That Ump COMPLETELY SUCKED Last Night - CLOWN Calls !

at this point I think I would prefer Stu and his moronic Husky tales derailing every thread. STFU already.

That game last night was fucking insane.

The Astros are going to smoke the Dodgers tomorrow on Halloween.  IMG_20171030_12189.jpg

Hey Rob!

Seeing that photo of you in the ole' 'Stros uniform reminds me how hard it is for me to wrap my head around the fact that Houston used to be in the National League.

There's a good connection between the Astros and the Giants, so I say, "Go Astros!"

That being said, my Dad spent the majority of his life in Southern CA, so I also have a bit of conflicted love for The Bums.

May the best team win....

anyone remember the astros mets 16 inning playoff game??

one of the all time great games

Knotesau is a Dodgers fan.

As big as they get around here.

For whatever that's worth.

Plf seems to be on a meth rant.

Dude, get some sleep.

SF people rooting for texas against LA.

It's sort of born in us (and I like Los Angeles).

Sorry.

BEAT LA!!!!

Yes, Lance, same here.

Careful Judit.

You might get an email if admin like the Dodgers.

astros in 6....book it , dano

well i see it like this....

i'll root for the WEST COAST.

i remember kinda rooting for the giants, because...west coast. that's kinda how i roll with sports in general...

>>>>>You might get an email if admin like the Dodgers.

"Send it off in a letter
To yourself"

Root for the West Coast?? That is the silliest thing I have ever heard. YAY root for a team that paid hundreds of millions of dollars for players and will continue to do so until they ultimately win a Series. SO RAD!

lol

yeah because the giants do things on the cheap? you made the top 5.

Los Angeles Dodgers: $248,321,662

New York Yankees: $221,574,999

Boston Red Sox: $198,328,678

Detroit Tigers: $192,307,500

San Francisco Giants: $166,744,443

Chicago Cubs: $163,805,667

Los Angeles Angels: $160,986,190

Texas Rangers: $158,680,220

St. Louis Cardinals: $143,514,000

Washington Nationals: $142,501,785

only thing from texas i'll root for is Willie Nelson

Yeah, silly stuff there Franklin.

Virtually every good team in every sport has to pay, because good players cost money, and if a good team happens to not be paying at the top level... they will be soon or they'll lose their good players.

And the Dodgers, like the Giants from a few years ago, are very home-grown (damn them) so there's that as well.

Personally I will favor a west coast team sometimes, but generally I lean more toward the National League team (except when it's the Dodgers) and ultimately I usually root for a teams fans, since that's what I am and where my sensibilities lie. In this situation I know how long Dodgers fans have waited, and despite popular opinion (of which I sometimes partake in for fun) I know there are many true "blue" Dodgers fans who really care about that stupid team.

But in this case I'm leaning toward the Astros & their fans, since their team has never won a World Series and has for the most part been terrible over their history (and those ugly uniforms the team used to wear, OUCH!) plus there's the disaster relief angle.

Mainly this year I just want good baseball and a team to WIN it as apposed to a team LOSING it (choking or whatever one wants to call it).

GO BASEBALL!!!!!!

that is a good explanation buddy.

>>There's a good connection between the Astros and the Giants

Yeah, a FRESNO connection...

My beloved hometown's Grizzlies was the Giants' AAA farm team until 2014, when the Giants won their last World Series.

Then they dumped us for Sacramento, and they've sucked ever since.

The Astros immediately picked up the Grizzlies and went straight up from there...

roundin third on an opposite field HR gesturing ‘pay me’ to the dig out

chris taylor

you guys stoked or what?

It is a series!

I love the color "Dodger blue".

GO BASEBALL!!!!!!

GO ASTROS!!!!!

How Dodger Blue Became a Part of the Internet, from the L.A. Times:

Twenty-eight years ago, thanks to the efforts of a fan, the Los Angeles Dodgers quietly became a part of computer history. In 1989, the team’s famous Dodger blue was added to a color database that is now almost certainly included in the web browser you’re using to read this.

Paul Raveling, a software engineer who in 1989 was working at the Information Sciences Institute at USC, had been “tuning” colors to be properly displayed on computer monitors. He proposed a major update to the list of color names that were supported by the X11 user interface system, including one called “dodgerblue.”

Dodger Blue.png

http://www.latimes.com/sports/dodgers/la-sp-how-dodger-blue-became-part-...

hats off to both teams...

i did not know that judit.

That's something I will never forget.

As you know, I love colors and I think the info in the article is pretty interesting. There is more than what I posted, in case you want to read it.

>>wasn't too classy hollis...

GAME 7 - IT’S ON

$1800 last night cheapest seats...

down to $600+ now

Go somebody! wink

astros couldnt ask for better start

yu darvish fucking sucks.

Ouch.

At least I can get to bed early.

super congrats astros.

you earned and deserved it.

great series....both teams have so many young stars...hats off to both

congrats Astros....

now manager cora....start working on getting altuve in boston by 2020

An amazing run by the Houston Astros, world champions.

It's weird saying that... Houston Astros, World Champions. Good for them.

And I was saying to a friend earlier tonight that there are only one or two current Dodgers I don't like, so as always, even though it's the stinking Dodgers I feel (almost) as bad for the losers as much as I feel good for the winners.

It really is great to win.

And I'm betting there won't be any Yu Darvish Day's in Los Angeles any time soon.

Maybe a Yu Darvish Voodoo Doll Day.

Ouch.

yeah, not a fan.

so mental, the pitching. maybe start kershaw and see what's up 1st....bearing yu's previous performance, but that's easy for me to say.

should've pulled him in the 1st.

chris taylor is a hell of a player though.

and that's sweet lance. thanks.

cheers astros. your town needed it.

springer and bregman were killer.

That's going to be the eternal Dodgers 2017 question... Should they have started Kershaw and let the game flow from there?

They'll never know.

But I'm very happy for the Astros, and I just love that Little Fucker Altuve.

And if it's possible I can now take even greater pleasure from seeing Matt Cain pitch a Perfect Game five years ago against the Astros, and that Little Fucker Altuve was playing that night!

perfectresize_0.jpg

GO GIANTS IN 2018!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Verlander gets to win one

Some great games, a fun Series!

Congratulations to Houston and the Astros for the win, and the Dodgers for making it to the Series!

Apologies for making it about me, Altuve & the Astros joy just brought that to mind.

Tonight is all about the 'Stros.

Fuckin' bums.

We love Altuve in my family also because his playing in the playoffs meant my sister won a bet that he would have more hits than Judge. The result is that she'll be treated to an oyster po-boy in New Orleans when she's there in December.

"And I'm betting there won't be any Yu Darvish Day's in Los Angeles any time soon."

That poor guy is going to have to live with this for the rest of his life.

"Verlander gets to win one"

Verlander gets to sleep with Kate Upton.  He's already won plenty.

SI's cover from 2014:

Astros.jpg

Happy to see the team in Orange win... didn't watch a whole lot the series except game 7, but I found myself getting stressed every time the fodgers threatened.  I wonder if dodger fans felt the same way when the giants were winning their championships?   Probably not...

Anyways, after enduring the jokes for decades from Dodger fans about the Giants not winning for 50 plus years, I was hoping to see the dodger winless streak go to 30+ years. 1988 does seem like a long time ago...

And are these Dodgers the 21st century version of the '90s Braves (win tons of games and division titles, but very few, if any, championships)? It becomes more of a possibility with every pitch Kershaw (who, coincidentally, was born in 1988) throws.

you can't have your starting pitcher go under 4 innings in 2 starts.

fucking horrible.

ps. i want to burn jerry giants bobbleheads.

1988 was a million years ago by Mike Keneally:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=EjzR3q8jreM

This should finally put to rest the nonsense that was being spewed all season about these Dodgers being one of the best teams ever.
