Corruption and INSANITY !

That's 30 pills, per person, per day.   I assume that a lot of it goes to folks who come down to town from the nearby hills and hallows to pick up their drugs, but still a shit ton of drugs no matter how you slice it.

I'll bet it's a sleepy little hamlet

That's 30 pills, per person, per day. <<<<

The Rush Limbaugh effect............

I know. Saw that on 60 mins I think.

Our local congressman wrote that bill and trump was going to make him the drug czar

cant make this stuff up

I knew that little green frog was an oxy moron!

Job well done for the Washington Post and 60 Minutes.  An example of journalism playing a healthy role in a democratic society.  CBS ran the story on Sunday and by Monday, Tom Marino was withdrawing from consideration.

lol, surf

South Park covered this nicely

(((Hummels)))

^ They sure did.

notice how govt plays drugs problems differently depending on race.

crack and inner city blacks versus opioids and majority whites

one is a public health crisis, the other started Ronnie's "war"

Fortunately, help is on the way!!!

Our President came through with some solid solutions to the opioid problem in our country, this one being my favorite: "If we can teach young people not to take drugs ... it's really, really easy not to take them."

You can read more solutions here: https://www.axios.com/quotes-from-trumps-opioid-speech-2501899318.html

JUST SAY NO!

the new slogan is HOPE not DOPE,

and yeah it can can also refer to the Moron in Chief

What uhollis said.

I think there are other factors at play than race to the different government reaction to the crack cocaine epidemic of the 1990's and the opioid epidemic of today.

People abusing the euphoric drugs, specifically cocaine and methamphetamine, are more prone to psychotic breakdowns and acts of extreme violence.  A lot of people were getting shot and killed during the Crack Wars, and not just by the cops.  Opioid addicts present different issues.  They are more of a danger to themselves than to others.  They overdose and, if lucky, get given some Narcan and survive, but just as often they die, last year in record numbers, 96,000 Americans.  More than died in Vietnam and Korea combined.  People who are od'ing aren't knocking off the local mini-mart and killing the owners.  That was happening during the crack epidemic.  The two situations are apples and oranges from a law enforcement perspective.

Apples and oranges are both fruit and are eminently comparable. I agree otherwise.

Java what about driving under the influence and child neglect that comes with opioid addiction. Just like alcohol there are more victims than just the user

"Jack and Crack"

No doubt, Joe.  It's a complex problem and requires a complex solution.  I'm not saying that the crack cocaine epidemic was handled properly either.  There are still crack addicts and meth addicts, you just don't hear about them as much as you do about opioid addicts.

They're all humans who need affordable treatment options and our compassion instead of our condemnation and judgement.  Stop treating addiction like it's a choice.  No one in their right mind chooses to destroy themselves.  These people are our sisters and our brothers and need our unconditional love and support to try to accept they have a disease and take the steps to confront it.

>>>>and child neglect that comes with opioid addiction.

in the parking lot of the Publix i use, two moms, with infants in the back seat, both overdose 3 weeks ago.

driver overdoses, passenger calls 911, passenger proceeds to get high, overdoses while waiting for 911, citizen from adjacent car takes care of infants during wait.

both girls met in rehab while pregnant.

at least 5-10 similar stories, involving children, from my county since the begginning of the year.

Fewer opioid issues in states where weed is legal.

Re-post from last week ~

Below are 2 stories about the pharmaceutical company, Purdue Pharma & the secretive Sackler family that invented and marketed OxyContin.

The reported facts are beyond disgusting. Their plans are now to focus on international marketing & distribution since sales numbers are down & scrutiny has risen here in the USA.

THE SECRETIVE FAMILY MAKING BILLIONS FROM THE OPIOID CRISIS - Esquire - BY CHRISTOPHER GLAZEK - OCT 16, 2017

THE FAMILY’S LEADERS HAVE PULLED OFF THREE OF THE GREAT MARKETING TRIUMPHS OF THE MODERN ERA: THE FIRST IS SELLING OXYCONTIN; THE SECOND IS PROMOTING THE SACKLER NAME; AND THE THIRD IS ENSURING THAT, AS FAR AS THE PUBLIC IS AWARE, THE FIRST AND THE SECOND HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH ONE ANOTHER.
