Losing photos in a fire

Forums:

I'm thinking about putting more pics online. Using clouds and shit.

IMO, other than the most serious official documents, and maybe not even those, there's nothing more valuable than family photos/videos.

They're powerful, and much more as time goes by.

Don't forget to do those lip pucker things, Slacker.

4 terrabyte hard drive :  $100

safety deposit box at a bank : $25 per year.

bonus:  box can hold your birth certificates, etc too.

I have the opposite problem.  I have so many photos on the phone iPad, that I need to figure the easiest/fastest way to print them all.

Google photos (free) automatically backs up any new iPhotos on my laptop. Cool little app for viewing and sharing as well. Currently have 4,877 pics safe and sound including mom & dads family pics and their parents & parents pics. Also have most of them on a hard drive to.

Thanks for bringing this up. I don't back up my computer often enough, but did tonight.

This is good advice I have yet to follow.

I backed up my shit and lost the main copy and my backups in Katrina.

Then I backed up all my shit and lost my main copy and all my backups in a break in 8 years later.

Backing up doesn't mean shit unless you store it in a different physical location. I miss my photos.

Probably because of my former job as the Director of Technology, backups are something that is ingrained in me. I have hard drives with my important date located in two geographic areas so if one area, besides my home area is effected, there is almost always a copy safe and sound somewhere else. I haven't backed up to the cloud simply because of the time involved. It takes a lot less time for me to send HDs through the mail each week than to upload all my content.
