Google photos (free) automatically backs up any new iPhotos on my laptop. Cool little app for viewing and sharing as well. Currently have 4,877 pics safe and sound including mom & dads family pics and their parents & parents pics. Also have most of them on a hard drive to.
Probably because of my former job as the Director of Technology, backups are something that is ingrained in me. I have hard drives with my important date located in two geographic areas so if one area, besides my home area is effected, there is almost always a copy safe and sound somewhere else. I haven't backed up to the cloud simply because of the time involved. It takes a lot less time for me to send HDs through the mail each week than to upload all my content.

IMO, other than the most
IMO, other than the most serious official documents, and maybe not even those, there's nothing more valuable than family photos/videos.
They're powerful, and much more as time goes by.

This is good advice I have yet to follow.
I backed up my shit and lost the main copy and my backups in Katrina.
Then I backed up all my shit and lost my main copy and all my backups in a break in 8 years later.
Backing up doesn't mean shit unless you store it in a different physical location. I miss my photos.
