17 Days Until P and C Report

Forums:

I know baseball season is longer by calendar days but for a non NFL fan , football just seems longer. Pitchers and catchers report in 17 days. How's your team look for 2019? Red Sox will contend, I would like a better closer and the 3 catcher situation needs to be cleared up. Also I'm not convinced Pedey is going to be the same Laser Show after missing almost 2 years, so while I like Holt / Nunez as bench players, I'd prefer a regular 2nd baseman. Hard to repeat and the Yanks are loaded , their pen is scary good.

Crazy that Harper and Machado are still unsigned.

I'm an Orioles fan, which means we're in a rebuild year.   Most of the housecleaning happened last year, but they still have a few moveable pieces.  Mark Trumbo will be dealt, and perhaps Dylan Bundy.  New manager and GM.  Compared to last year, this season may actually be fun if some of the new prospects pan out.

Giants fan here. And I don't watch football either.  Or any other sport(except curling).

We are in as much of a rebuild as they think they can and still put buts in the seats. I am for an allout rebuild. We won our three championships this decade and can afford a few more losing seasons. I would love a top 5 draft pick each of the next 2 or 3 yrs.

I will watch every game again this yr and pull for them to win every one. But I am a realist.  Unless the whole team has a rebound yr and  3 or 4 youngsters step way up, we will again be battling San Diego for last place in the NL West

Well I watch World Cup Soccer and the occasional EPL game due to a Zone friendship with a former denizen of the folder in the Chico area (wink, wink). As for the Giants, trading Posey (never gonna happen) and/or Belt and Crawford would go a long way in rebuilding. The Longoria contract obviously is killing them. Madbum gone by the deadline in July? As for the O's , IMO their problem is that all the guys they need to move are either older or have contracts like extra weights on a barbell, they are 3-5 years away from even a WC run. Just my opinion's

Sorry to hear about the passing of Peter Magowan, Mark.  He was a great leader for the Giants organization.

The O's are hoping for a quicker rebuild.  They cherry picked the Astros front office for their new front office staff to get guys experienced with a fast rebuild.  They are stuck with Chris Davis' contract, and the deals they gave starting pitchers Alex Cobb and Andrew Cashner look a little generous, but the rest of the roster is mostly young and not tied up with bloated contracts.  They are the only team to have signed no free agents this offseason.  That will probably change as Spring Training nears, and players agents drop their demands for dollars and/or years to get them into a camp.

Adam Jones is still unsigned, and the O's haven't ruled out a return.  He  doesn't really fit their rebuild model, but would give them a stable, productive veteran who is the team's most popular player.  His 10-5 rights make him hard to trade, though, so I think the O's will pass.

Magowan was a personal hero for keeping the Giants in SF.  He built one of the greatest ballparks in baseball.  Even though he  retired a few yrs ago, he will be missed.

Don't think Posey or Crawford are going anywhere. Hopefully both have rebound seasons.  Belt? Maybe.

My hopes for Madbum: He has a great first half, goes at the deadline for a buttload of prospects, then falls short at new location and we sign him long term after the season.

AL East is gonna be crazy...dont sleep on Tampa or Toronto, as The Sox and Yanks shoot it out racing toward 90+ wins....hopefully, Cora can lead his squad and help prevent that common post championship slump etc...
