The Press gave us Trump

The "business" side of the press surely can be blamed for a good portion of this hot mess especially when contemplating the early days, during primary season, etc. Les Moonves from CBS is on record saying Trump was "great for business". Ultimately, those billions of dollars of free advertising turned in to the rocket fuel the carnival barker needed to build momentum, etc.

To be fair, the carnival barker making the most out of it has to be factored in. Also, the human race' penchant for loving the carnival and watching - hoping for train wrecks also has to be factored in.

A legitimate question comes in the form of "what would've happened IF the press did not give him all of that attention early on?" Theoretically, millions would not have been so barraged with the carney coming to town. He might not have won the primary. If he didn't and then went independent, things could've easily gone wild as well, but maybe he doesn't get on to the debate stage, maybe Michael Bloomberg does jump in the race. We'll never know.

To be fair to portions of the press, once his trangressions got to be so voluminous and outrageous, many were trying to call him out. Hell, even his own party probably set world records with public statements about "this time Donalds comments were beyond the pale". However, the problem at that point was the perfect storm was brewing beyond control:

  1. Everyone (Repubs, Dems, possibly himself and team, Independents, etc.) ALL just continued to not take him seriously enough throughout up to election day itself. What if HRC picked Bernie as VP? I don't think she did because they didn't think they needed to.
  2. Proliferation of fake news. An amazing phenomenon! Using just this stupid Pizzagate deal as an example and there were probably thousands of stories like that bombarding people.
  3. Gullibility of humans. You have to stop and think that there are millions of Americans who actually believe the aforementioned fake news stories!
  4. Technology. One click on a social site of some type of story and technology now bombards you with similar ones. So, in addition to carpet bombing with fake news, the same applies to the ridiculousness of the "emails" and "benghazi" stuff. See "gullibilty of humans" above.
  5. Russian meddling. Combined with the above, this was very real and something we will learn more about.
  6. HRC herself. For a host of reasons, she was just not a likeable person.
  7. Female mysogyny. It's a very real thing, just start thinking about cat fights and give it steroids. I've worked in medical device sales and I've had great female sales reps who can do very well selling to doctors (male and female), but struggle with nursing staffs who are predominently female.
  8. History. It shows that any party often cannot win the job after having it for the previous 8 years.
  9. Morons. Sorry, but it's a consequential piece as well. Watch some interviews with people at Trump rallies (not that Trump supporters own this title), many have shown that they just don't either have the intelligence or are willing to think through the issue (facts are presented such as more mfg jobs created, those lost were mostly due to automation than those damn illegal aliens, etc.). We're seeing it now as they get quizzed about some of the Goldman Sacks guys coming on board. I'd laugh if I could get myself to not cry.
  10. Volume of Trumps outrageousness. It became white noise or as Dan Rather put it, the bed of nails syndrome. There were just so many, almost each one of them would have been used to disqualify any previous or other Repub or Dem in the past.
  11. Racists. This is probably one of the most disconcerting, but should not be the most surprising. One of the great things about America is that we believe we've continued to evolve and mature. When we look at the middle east and the tribal actions, we can say that they have not come as far as we have which is generally true. However, we've just proven that maybe 25 to 30% of us have not.
  12. Perfect storm and for those of us who want America to be a compassionate country with some moral compass, we can hope and prary while watching carefully and acting as necessary over these next 4-8 years.

Disclosure: I'm an independent. I believe in social progress and pragmatic fiscal policies. My vote this year was not really politically based. Rather more from a perspective of a hiring manager for the biggest job in world (supposedly). I could not vote for a man who refused to show me his real resume (tax returns, health records, etc.) in the face of boasting about his accomplishments. I could not vote for a man who, however, did put his ethics, morals and temperament (lack thereof for each by they way) on display almost every day for 18 months. So, I voted for Hillary because, while she certainly has judgement issues, we certainly know the issues and none were as aggregious or as concerning as what the possibilities are with Trump. For all of our sakes, I hope that Trump proves me wrong.

This.

A lot of folks misunderstand this - they think their vote is a measure of their idealism and commitment.

It's not - it's a practical decision., and when it's down to two, you vote for one of the two that has a chance to win.

>>>and when it's down to two, you vote for one of the two that has a chance to win.

What if you don't vote for either?

Then you aren't allowed to complain.

Have any zoneThird party voters complained?
