My plans that kept me out of town for this tour changed so I went on line at lunch today to see what kind of slim pickings of tickets I could get.
2 front row seats for 49.00 each.
I was so skeptical with this that I called the ticket office. Valerie told me those 2 tix were just turned back in from a supporter of The Kings Theater and were mine for the taking. $119 for 2 front row 3 seats from dead center tickets.
Fuck Yea !!!!!
I can't recall where I heard this saying but it goes something like....one man gathers what another man spills
someone here posted a link to frank zappa "eat that question". Fucking thrilled me. I'd like to hear more zappa like that, what do you recommend? not a big fal of the humorous stuff i like my music serious for the most part
Project Object w/ Napoleon Murphy Brock -- I saw Nappy Brock last New Years Eve w/ the Ed Palermo Big Band. The dude is still funny, but is getting on in the years. He came out for 3 tunes dressed in a tux and top hat, sang and danced around a bit, but never played any sax. The dude is 72 and shows his age.
The ZPZ tour looks pretty exhausting, 4 or 5 shows in a row and then one day off.
Yes, I've seen Dweezil as well as the Bela and the Flecktones there... it's a keep your Uncle Meat in yer seat kinda venue, but the DFlos will be hitting that show, so it's got that going for it, which is more than nice.
And Carmel is only like 15 minutes closer to us than the city, plus I always enjoy taking days off work and going on mini vacations to SF with the wife... we met there way back in 1990 and our love for the music of Mr Frank was one of the things we found out we had in common...
Seen ZPZ 3 times, like Dweezil and all (great guy in person), but disappointed at a lot of the inner family politics... even my buddy Andre, who's a guitar tech for many legends (and plays brilliantly in Project Object), wasn't allowed to set up Adrian Belew's guitar rig so he could sit in with them, hell, wasn't even allowed near the stage (Adrian was invited to sit in with ZPZ since they were playing on the same stage / same day at a festival)... so Adrian played harmonica on "City of tiny lights" instead of guitar... so much pettiness, very sad...
ZPZ is a great time, but I'd like to see Dweezil try his hand at songwriting again. His guitar technique and understanding of his Dad's creative process have grown greatly from his 80's guitar wanker persona. You know that his old man would be having a field day with all the shenanigans and peccadillos emanating from the Oval Office these days, and Frank would have doubtlessly satirized the commercial cannibis industry. ZPZ should be more than just a cover band.
