You can tune a piano, but you can't find tuna at Subway's

Haven't had a bite of their "food" in about 15 years, looks like many more...

Subway describes its tuna sandwich as “freshly baked bread” layered with “flaked tuna blended with creamy mayo then topped with your choice of crisp, fresh veggies.” It’s a description designed to activate the saliva glands — and separate you from your money. It’s also fiction, at least partially, according to a recent lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. The complaint alleges the ingredient billed as “tuna” for the chain’s sandwiches and wraps contains absolutely no tuna.

The star ingredient, according to the lawsuit, is “made from anything but tuna.” Based on independent lab tests of “multiple samples” taken from Subway locations in California, the “tuna” is “a mixture of various concoctions that do not constitute tuna, yet have been blended together by defendants to imitate the appearance of tuna,” according to the complaint. Shalini Dogra, one of the attorneys for the plaintiffs, declined to say exactly what ingredients the lab tests revealed.“We found that the ingredients were not tuna and not fish,” the attorney said.

According to Subway’s nutritional information page on its website, the tuna salad for its sandwiches contains flaked tuna in brine, mayonnaise and an additive to “protect flavor.”

Not even "fish"??? Oy. I've had one sub there in the last 10 years when an avacado thing was goin' on.

Not tuna and not fish. So what the hell were they using?!

I have a nice faux tuna recipe that is chickpea and almond based, but I suspect Subway was using something far more disgusting.

Anyone here recently order 'tuna' sandwich from Subway and did you enjoy your sandwich? Apparently you can get in on the lawsuit..

Yikes!

My supervisor gave us Subway gift certificates for Christmas and I had a salad with chicken.

As we all know, many things fall under the category of "Tastes Like Chicken"

You can tune a piano, but you can't tuna fish - unless it's a guitarfish!

Subway is shit; always has been and always will be. They somehow convinced the world that they are the "healthy" fast food choice. Their bread has never tasted like bread, and just look at their deli meats. None of them look real. Why would the tuna be any different?

For a few years my office was 100 yards from a Subway. In the 4 years I was there I ate there maybe 5 times, for convenience alone, with the full understanding that it was shit.

their bread also has too much sugar content to be actually classified as "bread".

disgusting.

I know walking into a fast food place what to expect.  We have way too many grinder(Sandwich) shops around here but if by chance I end up at a subway im loading up on pickles, bannana peppers and basically anything other than whatever so called meat they provide.

Live and learn.  I've learned that any sandwich, hot or cold, has a much more even taste if you wrap it with with paper, foil and then let sit for a few(smoke break).

Well yeah, it's fast food.

duh.

Montpelier, Vermont has long prided itself as being the only state Capitol without a McD's, or any fast food.

Maybe 10 years ago a McD's was close to going in. It was going to be unique, with no Golden Arches outside, no parking, no drive through, and "a higher end" interior. City residents voted it down. Personally, I saw that as hypocritical bullshit. There's a Subway, which is just as shitty fast food. In fact, much of it is even more unhealthy than burger joints. Somehow, though, Subway is seen as healthy and not fast food.

Since it's Subway, maybe it's rat meat.

And speaking of meat, Subway's breadcrumb-balls sandwich doesn't seem to have any.

Alas, the shoddy lawsuit  that allegedly tuneless tuna sandwich now seem suspect. Made for some good headlines and jokes though.
