Yarn tonight

Forums:

Going down to the White Eagle tonight to see that Yarn band I keep hearing about.   Don't think I have ever heard any of their music before and its always interesting to check out new acts going in with zero expectations.

I heard their best shows are at The Knitting Factory.

Looking forward to hearing your reviews, a quick look up on youtube, and it would appear to be a pretty fun band!

(I got to sit in w/ the little brothers band at the Skyline 2 weeks ago, that was fun, might do it again in July)

I'm gonna guess you walked out a Yarniac! Not only superb songwriters and musicians, great guys too!

Wouldn't go that far, but they were good.   I was surprised that four dudes with just a telecaster, beat up acoustic guitar, stand up bass, and simple drum kit could produce such a big sound.   Sort of like Uncle Tupelo with some danceable grooves.  They could definitely hold down a raging party in the woods.

I was also surprised how sparsely attended the show was, especially considering how they get rave reviews.  The White Eagle is a historic neighborhood saloon and not a big place.   Local semi-pro jam bands can get the place packed to the gills and I almost didn't go because I was worried about getting squished like sardines.   But at tops, there were only 50 people there, including the opening band ("Cedar Teeth" and they were good too), and only about 12 people up grooving myself included.  Lead singer said it was "a small but mighty crowd."

They started late (10:00 pm) for a school night and had to split about an hour into their set.  Riding the local light rail at night is always an adventure.

You got that right.

Glad you had a good experience, Ken, if brief and underattended. Thanks for the review!
