Well shit. I just booked my flight. I grew up about a mile from the venue and my dad's Elks lodge serves as overflow parking for shows at the amphitheater. My folks are still down there and I am long overdue for a trip back. Nothing like Florida in August.
Will I need to jump on tickets as soon as they go on sale? My buddy works the venue so wondering if he has some angles on getting some discounted tickets.
It won’t sellout this far in advance but the Friday and Saturday shows will eventually be the hot tickets, the Sundays will be easy to get. I will probably jump on some early tickets for Friday and Saturday. The hurricane canceled the one run a couple years ago. Really great venue and the shoreline is right there to do some trout and red fishing on your down time, my idea of a great time show+fishing. Hope to see you there, Ken
You should go 4 winds, small great venue (holds a little over 4,000 seats)in the State Park, the lot is shaded and next to the camp ground, and the beach is right there. Reminds me a bit of the Pompano Beach Amphitheater, but nicer. A wonderful place to have a three day run, but keep an eye on the cops they are easy to find, not a total free for all like Suwanne for sure.
No shit about watching out for the cops. Many years ago (before they built the new amphitheatre), my brother got busted smoking a joint out in the woods behind the place. Cop saw a long hair and followed him back there. It will be weird going back to a place where you can still get in trouble for herb. But yeah, real nice natural area back in Anastasia State Park. Would camp there but have free lodging right down the street at my folks' place in Lighthouse Park. Will still probably take the kayak out on Salt Run down to the state park.
I am going to miss out on this one, too busy of a summer, in a good way. Damn Ken, was really looking forward to welcoming you back home, enjoy your stay.
T, one of these days we will be more than in the same room as each other
Hey Tim, did you figure out if you are coming over for the Sunday show?
I still only have tickets for Sunday, but was down at the pier at Lighthouse Park last night fishing and you could hear the show off in the distance from there with Jimmy's guitar piercing through.
Caught some fish, including a small barracuda and a couple undersized sea bass, but nothing worth keeping. I have been also helping my folks out with various projects around the house and yard (sweating like a pig), but might go back to the pier later today or tomorrow morning to try again. Plan on playing tourist and go pub hopping downtown this afternoon.
Yes Ken I am. We should meet up, I have work in the morning. Been cooking tamales all day and I finish them tomorrow. The show is earlier 6:30 and looking at last nights setlist I need to make this happen I'll have tamales, mild green verde sauce, spicy red sauce and a couple of tablets. .I always get a firm maybe from all the Fla zoners but never a show up or see them. Lets get this West coast/east coast thing tomorrow night.Lets see if all these stories I have spewed over the years are even remotely true.
Great show! For a town founded by Spanish conquistadors 42 years before Jamestown, Cortez the Killer was a fitting addition to the rocking Sunday night show. Band smoked.
Hot and humid as all fuck but the mugginess produced wicked heat lightning which, along with the nearby St. Augustine Lighthouse (voted again and again as the most haunted place in Florida), added to the scenery.
There was also a shaking Shakedown Street:
As for the planned Zoner meetup with T, that became sort of a comedy of errors. However, based on our communications, it is more likely than not that (1) he was at the show and (2) at least some of the stories are true.
I was so fuckin spun and wandered the area Ken was supposed to be and I spent 10 minutes screaming KEN FROM OREGON
I'm sure he saw me and said that guy is fucked and just pretended to not know me!
I had goodies.
I have only been to a few WSP shows but between the high powered blotter, the heat and humidity and my dozens of new friends that show was fuckin aces!!
Like driving on a crowded interstate at 140MPH zig zaging in and out of traffic for 4 fuckin hours!
I have seen Traffic, Steevie, GD and many others play Dear Mr. Fantasy but no one and I fuckin mean no one played it like them fuckers last night.
GOD I LOVE FREAKS
Some fuckin cop walked over to me and pulled a joint out of my mouth and stomped and ground it into the floor like it was his life long dream. Mother fucker didn't realize it was forbidden fruit heavily juiced with blonde Lebanese hash......It was ok, I had a half dozen more.
NOBODY plays Dear Mr. Fantasy like Panic does. That is a fact, indeed. JB can rip those vocals apart and they just give it the grit it requires. They've got several songs like that, covers that really only they can do and just deliver with the emotional punch required. And it Stoned Me by Van Morisson comes to mind as another one...
That's funny T. I didn't see you but saw some other dude who fit your general description and we were yelling at him "Hey Tim! Tim from Tampa!" Glad you had a good show and even more glad you made it back safe and sound.
>.I always get a firm maybe from all the Fla zoners but never a show up or see them

March is a great month to pompano fish on the beach. 3-4 pound fish fight ok but they are one of the tastiest fish to ever eat. lil butter on aluminum foil so they don't burn and that is it.
17 foot surf rods, cast out, smoke a beer and wait for the rod tip to bounce and oh yea when waiting, the spring break girls walk by a lot.
