Worst Concert Ever

Forums:

From the thread on Reddit

When I was 11 my sister and her boyfriend took me to a Jimmy Buffett concert. I was having a good time when all of a sudden I feel a warm spray on the back of my legs, I didn't think much of it...then it happened again. So I checked to see what it was and saw the guy behind me zipping up his pants. I got fucking pissed on. So I told my sister who was next to me, she didn't believe me and said "it's just beer, people spill beer here all the time". Fine. My 11 year old mind didn't want to believe it anyway. Then it happened again, I quickly turned, tapped my sister on the shoulder, low and behold the guy behind me was swaying back and fourth singing along to Margaritaville with his tiny pecker out pissing on me. She yells "OH MY GOD!" and has her boyfriend get security. They take us back to the security offices so I can get cleaned up, and I heard the security yelling at the dude for pissing on a kid. We went back to our seats, but can't say I had the best time knowing I got pissed on 3 times.

Ewww.  There was the balcony pisser at a DSO show in New Jersey a number of years back.  It turned out to be a minor local politician who was then banned from all DSO shows for life.

My buddy got thrown up on at Dead and Bro two summers ago, but never seen anyone get pissed on.

Kixx opening up for The Kinks at the Spectrum circa 1983?

That happens more often than you may think, and watch out for those cups that look like they still have beer in them!

I got puked on at the first Furthur show at the Hammerstein. Guy in his 50s who probably hadn't been to a show in 20 years. People in front of me were parting and this guy with his eyes spinning is right in front of me. He just let loose. It hit me square in the chest. Luckily I was wearing a shitty sweater over a T shirt  Pulled it off, dropped it in the puddle and enjoyed the rest of my night.

Sorry for your bad times, but I'm pretty sure that Eagles Of Death Metal show at the Bataclan in Paris has everything else beat.

I hear that happens all the time at soccer matches in England

Vans Warped Tour = Seventh circle of Hell.

3 Stages all going at once..in the parking lot of Mile High Stadium . Bad music x3. And No shade .

There was that Great White show in Rhode Island back in 2003 that is also up there for the title of worst concert ever.

90% of anything with a saxophone in it.  It's ruined more good music than any other instrument.

Legion of Mary is a good example

Hasent ever happened, pick n choose

Apparently, you've never had to sit through a Kenny G, Paul Anka or countless other concerts.

I found $20 on the ground at a Jimmy Buffett concert.

This wasn’t my worst concert but it was the worst concert ever for the people who put it on. Back before Beats was a headphone company it was a music streaming service called MOG. They put on a free promotional show at the Independent in SF and got T-Mobile to pay a lot of money to sponsor the show.

MOG had invited all the T-Mobile execs to the show and the club had T-Mobile signage all over the place. Deer Tick was the headliner, and the show went downhill fast. The lead singer/guitarist got completely wasted - to the point where he couldn’t really functions anymore. It was at that point he decided that playing guitar with his dick was the best way to save the night. Well it’s rock and roll after all and if you want to associate your brand with an edgy streaming music service then this comes with the territory.

But Deer Tick wasn’t going to just end the show with some dick playing guitar. They came out for one more song, but before they started the song just to make sure that all the T-Mobile execs felt they had gotten their money’s worth they decided to lead the crowd in rousing cheer of “Fuck T-Mobile – Fuck T-Mobile – Fuck T-Mobile”

Worst show ever for the poor guys at MOG who put it on.

What's the difference between a saxophone and a lawn mower?

You can tune a lawn mower.

Feb 6th, 1977 during Boston's first tour and their album was blowing up all over the place, they played The Capitol Theater in Passaic, NJ when the rest of their tour had already moved to arena sized venues because John Scher refused to let them break their contract. Maybe I should say it was the worst half a concert I have ever attended. Boston was excellent that night and blew the roof of the place. The opener, Apple Scruffs, was the worst band I have ever seen and/or heard. They were so bad that the audience barely booed until after a few songs had been played. Most of the audience, like myself, sat slack jawed in disbelief at the total lack of quality. Seriously, I can usually find something to like with any band, including bands in dive bars that don't even get to drink for free...two beers and they have to pay for the rest and no other compensation.

Sounds like when Rachel Sweet opened for the Jerry Garcia Band at the Orpheum in Boston. I think that may have been another John Scher fiasco.

I enjoyed Rachel Sweet the time I saw her at The Bottom Line on her 17th birthday. John Hiatt was the opening act that night. Since she was being marketed as a "punk" by Stiff Records back in the day, I imaging an opening slot for JGB was not the best idea. lol

I had to sit through Smashing Pumpkins at a Bridge School many years back and I swear it was the most intolerable set of music ever.

Flock of Seagulls.

Phish 2010 Camden. Further 2011 at the Mann canter was pretty close. As far as professional live national touring acts hose two were side by side as the worst performances I’ve ever seen. I’ve seen worse shows from smaller bands. Someone brought me to a Umelt concert at the Brooklyn bowl. It was awful.

Men at Work when I was 13.

I remember the review headline in the paper the next day: "Men at Work put in a shift at The Forum". That was about it.

From hit bands, Queen in 1979 and INXS in 1990

Seen many mediocre shows over time,  but maybe 2006-2007 saw some teeny-bopper band at WOW hall in Eugene (I won tixx on the radio).  Can't recall their name,  but we walked away after a few tunes:  they were soooo lame.  We found something else to do.

I said to my friend "If I had kids they might be into Krap like this" and she said "I'm so glad my kid isn't old enough for this Krap"...

A couple nights later they were on Letterman show.  I guess they were HUGE with the high-schoolers of the era.

It Bites! opening for Jethro Tull 1989 was just horrible celtic pop crap.

Bob Dylan a few years ago playing Sinatra tunes.  I was with a group of Irish lads.  Half of them fell asleep, they were so excited to finally see Dylan.  I warned them it wouldn't be a greatest hits show,  but Sinatra?  Fuck it was lame.

as for pissing-Phil with cryan adams at red rocks there was this doped out wookie chick, what mess.  She had a skirt on and was lifting her leg like a dog and pissing all over.  She would walk lift her leg and let loose, must have happened half a dozen times.  Poor guy squatting by the planters, looking high as hell, got the squirt.

Twisted Sister as an opener for the good rats-yuk!

Jackmormons opening for Mule- 1998

Noisefest

I know lots of folks like Jerry Joseph- but he's always turned my stomach.

It's a toss-up between:

Head East

Calderone in W Hempstead, LI...awful. Both openers were way better....

 Electric Light Orchestra

Nassau Coliseum

I won free tix...

They had that silly spaceship, then proceeded to do all their "hits" as a 5 minute MEDLEY....

Can't believe i paid for  tha....

IT WAS FREE AND STILL SUCKED!

Warfield PLF balcony jumper. Total buzzkill. Not Bataclan bad, but pretty bad.

That was just an homage to the original Palladium jumper, anyway.

>Twisted Sister as an opener...

Saw Twisted Sister twice as an opener (Dio, Iron Maiden)

A Flock of Seagulls was exponentially worse, trust me

Throw out a dishonorable mention to Moe(1995) and Jack White (2012)

Bad Brains as an opener for Peter Tosh at Stonybrook in 1981, was loud painful noise.

Bad Brains were a great band that didn't play blues.

There was a ween show or two in there that were awful.

Blues Traveller after Popper had that motorcycle accident and was immobile I think is the only time I have left early. The guitar player was intolerable. The Sting in New Britian was a hole as well.

Big Head Todd and monsters also wins an honorable mention.

As does ProjeKct Two. I think this may have actually been worse than Popper. For as much lip service as King Crimson gets around here this was pretty bad.

Oysterhead should also get a mention for overhyped nonsense.

>>Bad Brains were a great band that didn't play blues.

They opened with 3 blues numbers disguised as thrash metal at full blast and got booed off the stage.

When you talk about a band in the past-tense, and the members are still alive, that is not a good indication of a great band.

You're probably right. They were a good band that didn't play blues like good blues bands.

I don't know what they sound like right now. I haven't listened to any recent shows.

If you do not think Bad Brains were influenced by the Blues you don’t really get music.

You're right, Gravy. Bad Brains are blues influenced. I don't know why someone would find them painful to listen to.

Me either, but I never saw them perform live.

Went to see Mastodon a few years ago with the spawn, he is really into them and we've seen them before, they are actually pretty good.

The headliner though SUCKED ASS in my opinion. A band called Clutch. Awful. Just awful. One of the only few shows that I left.

I saw Bad Brains in 1985 in DC and they ROCKED! Of course, you had to be into their music and at the time I knew all their songs. HR did a stage dive off second floor balcony at WUST radio music hall into the crowd. Epic intensity.

But not for everybody.

Billy Squier - New Haven Coliseum 1984?.  Played for about 45 mins and said "goodnight".  Horrible.  Ratt was the warm-up - which may have been equally horrible.Still not sure why I went.

(((((((Bad Brains))))))

DC Hard Core

Smoked a bunch of spleefs with HR over the years. Paid to cum

Warfield PLF balcony jumper. Total buzzkill. Not Bataclan bad, but pretty bad. <<<<

True. That was pretty fucked up.

Good show though.

There was band called It Bites that opened up for Jethro Tull.  God awful.

Tull wasn't much better.

Garcia & Friends at The Palladium 1982... Might not be worst ever but it did SUCK. and started at like 11pm because Marshall Tucker Band played their own show separate and apart. MTB were smoking that night.

The supporting acts were pretty weak especially Ronnie Specter and it was like 5am when we walked out because when Jerry said "see y'all later" we thought he was coming back out after his 4 or 5 song acoustic set. I do recall liking the Birdsong he played. I think this was the show w the jumper .

I thought Ronnie Specter was great and Robert Gordon sucked.

And yes, this was the jumper show. He launched from the end of my aisle.

It was nice when someone opened the doors to the roof.  Toking 'neath the pre-dawn sky.

That was the first night of a pretty insane weekend.

I was going to say that that Ratt/BIllySquire show was the worst, but to me a concert is one event consisting of a series of smaller events that should begin before one ever leaves for the show (and openers can't really ruin the overall event).

With that in mind, my worst concert was a sold out mid-80's Pink Floyd show at the Oakland coliseum that I drove a couple hours to get to, but upon arrival realized I had forgotten my fukin ticket (and scalps were going for waaay more cash than I had in those days).  I actually tried to drive home and get the ticket and make it back in time to catch some of the show, but it has just ended when I got there.  That was a horrible sick feeling that not even Ratt/Squire, Night Ranger, or the Psychedelic Furs could top.

And I always thought Jethro Tull picked It Bites! simply for how it looked on the marquis... I know I laughed going into the show.

Miss Velvet and The Blue Wolf are pretty cringeworthy.

"Ouch Googly.  That sucks.

One of the worst I saw was Van Halen during the Sammy Hagar years.  It wasn't so much the band, although it felt so much like an over the top WE ARE A ROCK AND ROLL BAND and we shall run and pose all over the stage" kind of show.  That got to be a bit much, but the truly terrible part of it was the crowd.  I think it may have been "wrong drug, wrong place" because my brother and I had eaten some ecstasy, and that did not fit the vibe of this crowd at all.  We tried our best to ignore it, but when the 2nd fight broke out in our section (over spilled beer...both of 'em) we bailed.

It was the biggest relief walking out of the Richfield Coliseum.  In fact, I think we ran outside.  It was a beautiful night, and the parking lot was packed with cars...and not a soul around.  That was surreal after seeing primarily Grateful Dead concerts at the time.  EVERYBODY WAS IN THE SHOW!?  We laughed like a couple dudes high on ecstasy.

Like I said, it was probably a bad idea to take the ecstasy, but that was not a happy crowd to hang around with.

not a happy crowd to hang around with.<<

DLR fans who didn't get the memo?

Spilling beer > Getting the memo.
