World Series

Forums:

Mr cool Dusty's astros first team in, after those 2 bludgeoning's Boston dished out I didn't think that was ever gonna happen. I figured that series was ovah. Then the sox bats just went south, all the way to spring training.. Never bet on baseball. That Garcia wind up is the strangest shit I've ever seen, that'll throw a batter off some, and an ump.

Hoping for a Dodger comeback, but they're  banged up, and Atlanta is damn good. No sore loser here, even if my team's out of it,  I'll watch till there's no more games left. I love this game.

Anybody win Big Popi's money ?  I don't see how anyone can win betting on baseball, especially that sox stros series.

Go Braves!

Can't imagine the rest of the country getting much excited about the Braves vs. the Astros.  The Tomahawk Chop goober fans vs. the trash can beater cheaters.  Gonna be some low tv ratings.

Astros in 6.

I don't disagree Dave but as far as I'm concerned - F the cheaters.  They never got punished enough and this is what happens.   Cheaters gonna cheat.

Go Braves!  ...and that's coming from a Mets fan - oh the horror.

IMO people need to get over the cheating bit.

Everybody cheats, and everybody had to know they were cheating. If the hitter could hear the banging, so could the catcher, so could the 3rd baseman, so could the other dugout for god's sake.

And with all the player movement from team to team in the modern game there had to be many people around the league who knew what was up. Do people think that all those players were sworn to a blood oath of secrecy? "Hey, you know what they do over in Houston, right?"

If the Dodgers or anyone else somehow didn't know or couldn't figure it out, that's on them for gross negligence.

Anyway, it's just sports, and to me this is a good sports story, one of redemption. Yeah, they cheated, yeah they got busted, and punished? Everyone hates and endlessly derides them. This is them saying, "We did it, we fucked up, and now we're going to show that we didn't need to do it. We're better than the rest of you anyway."

Good for them.

Go Dusty.

Go Giants!

I just hope Altuve got his tattoo fixed.

wearing a wire??

yeah...FUUUUUUCCCCK those guys.

The best thing about the World Series is that the bean counters over at Fox are about ready to slit their wrists right now, particularly because Dodgers v. Red Sox  was so close. It would be hard to come up with a worse match up for ratings - with two southern teams and the cheating scandal. I could see Fox trying to manufacture a new cheating scandal just to get people to watch this thing.

No Yanks or Sox in it = low ratings, just the way it is.

The 2 games Boston beat Houston it looked as tho their batters knew exactly what was coming. The next 3 games they had no idea. Would love to know what part of their cheating system broke down. Wired for sound seems the way to go.

I'm an A L guy all the way. Go Dusty !@

5 - 0 in the 3rd  WTF

Well at least I don't have to listen to that fucking tomahawk chop chant.

^^^Lmao

F'n Charlie Morton shuttin' em down on a fractured fibula, holy jamoley. Coolest thing about baseball, you can watch it your whole life, and in the next game something will happen you've never seen before.

Fuck that Atlanta baseball team

>>>Well at least I don't have to listen to that fucking tomahawk chop chant.

When I first moved here it was at every fucking concert I went to.  Super annoying but the fans are passionate.

Also intrigued to see how Donny will be received tonight.  Cheered or jeered.

The chop chant at concerts in Atlanta ?  Shit, them be some bass akward mofo's down yonder.

trump's gonna be at the game tonight ??  Wonderful, the torture never stops.

So close to Halloween maybe Sherman's ghost will bust a move on his ass.

Braves starter tonight, Ian Anderson

Help on the Way outro music to commercial last inning.

Yanking a starter after 5 sterling innings of no hit ball, damn, bold maneuver. Terrible game weather. Great series so far.

trump plans to attend the Astros-Braves Game 4 of the World Series on Saturday night in Atlanta.

“He called MLB and wanted to come to the game,” Braves CEO Terry McGuirk told USA Today earlier this week. “We were very surprised. Of course we said yes.”

Asked if there was concern about trump’s polarizing presence, McGuirk said the team had no objection.

“We are apolitical,” he said. “We’re open to anyone coming. It’s great that he wants to come to our game.”

trump attended World Series Game 5 in Washington in 2019, when the Nationals faced the Astros, and was booed when he appeared on the stadium’s video board.

Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred also is scheduled to attend tonight’s game. Earlier this year, Manfred pulled the 2021 All-Star Game out of Atlanta due to Georgia’s new restrictive voting law, a move criticized by trump.

trump does not plan to be sitting with MLB or club officials, said McGuirk, who added, “We are going to give him his own suite.”

Nutless McDork can suck it, he should ban the big lie loser and ban the chop chant. I'll be booing at every glimpse.

Looks like this will be the last WS to have pitches bat. The next collective bargaining agreement is pushing for a universal DH. Kind of sucks, I enjoyed all the managerial maneuvering in the NL game.

Kendall Graveman

There's your trivia answer to the question - who was the last pitcher to bat before the rule change. Nice seeing Greinke get a hit last Sunday. Ohtani just a DH going forward.

Ron Blomberg lives.

>>Nice seeing Greinke get a hit last Sunday

Pretty solid hit too!!!

If you live long enough everything you like gets fucked up.

>>>"to me this is a good sports story, one of redemption. Yeah, they cheated, yeah they got busted, and punished?"

- Nope hardly punished.  Loss of the integrity of the game by keeping them champs.  If the Louisville Cards lose a championship for paying for some strippers one night, how does a pro team get to keep a championship for cheating in many games?

>>>"This is them saying, "We did it, we fucked up"

- Nope. Bunch of deniers, cowards, and mopers.  They never owned it like you present.   Sure some admitted to it but most don't even talk about it.

>>>>"and now we're going to show that we didn't need to do it. We're better than the rest of you anyway."

But.... they aren't better.  They've just proven they can't win without cheating as they keep falling short.   They got off easy COVID hiding keeping the fans away.   No real punishment except for a few people.

Hate the chop but glad the Braves won.

Two 100+ wins NL teams in the same division.

Seven AL teams with 90+ wins.

Yet the 88 wins Atlanta Braves wins the World Series!!

suck it houston!

again, FUCK those guys.

and yeah, pitchers having to hit is one of the reasons i have always been a NL guy. lame.

>>>They never owned it like you present<<<

Yeah, I suppose that's true. At least the leaders of the team should have stood up, wiped a tear and apologized (how we love and forgive apologies in sports) and really all of what you say about my comments is true, but I still refuse to believe that no one knew what was going on, and to me that's a big part of the story as well.

But how exactly should they have been punished? Stripping the title would have been a nice show, but would that have made such a difference? The league still couldn't have awarded the championship to the Dodgers, so there would have been a "no winner" in the books one year, and one less trophy in their trophy case. Not really that big a deal.

Maybe all the players involved should have been suspended for a year, but that would likely have opened a much bigger can of worms, because to me the real question is how they were able to get away with it for so long, and how many people knew that it was happening.

They were cheating and they should have been dinged more for it, but it's not like they were selling nuclear weapons to terrorists or something, they were banging on a trash can to know the speed of a pitch. I realize that a big part of the appeal of sports is that it gives us something to hate, which is a need that is a sad aspect of the human condition, but IMO at this point we should all just move on. There are plenty of other things to hate.

As for falling short this year; they got there, they won the American league by playing damn good baseball, and every year one team "falls short".

>>>Yet the 88 wins Atlanta Braves wins the World Series<<<

Just another example that happens in all of sports - the team that wins the championship isn't always the "best" team.

Which is just another example of how sports so often reveals how life works in general.

pitchers should hit

i cant stand  AL baseball  bc of the DH rule

Lance, if whatever you do for a living ever falls thru, you'd make a hell of a sports writer. You have some great insight.

What would be the appropriate punishment for the red sox, who knowingly hired the man behind all the skulduggery ? Cora cheats but he wins, hire him.

>>>Just another example that happens in all of sports - the team that wins the championship isn't always the "best" team.

I think that is true in baseball more than any other sport. The team that wins the division or has the best record in the AL or NL is the best team. You can't get hot over a baseball season and skew the results. Because pitchers are used so differently in the playoffs it's almost a completely different team. Football comes close with the quarterback but three pitchers on a hot streak can win you a championship. With Bumgarner in 2014 it was one pitcher since he pitched in 3 games 21 innings with a 0.43 ERA

Well Ras, I'm not sure I have any great insights, or that those are a prerequisite to being a sportswriter. I was about to thank you for the complement but then I'm not sure telling someone they'd make a good sportswriter IS a complement.

And these days I don't do much of anything for a living except deposit my monthly pension check and waste time yammering about sports & music on the internet.

But now to the biggest and truly important baseball news of the day, very surprising and incredibly sad...

Reports are saying that after an amazing comeback season and with tens of millions left on the table, Buster Posey is going to announce his retirement from baseball.

As baseball fans, everyone should be saddened by this, as a Giants fan, I'm crushed.

I'm sure there will be lots more said about this in the days ahead, but I'll just make my statement that I get arguments about but that I always stand by - Buster Posey is the greatest San Francisco Giant of all time.

Of course everyone starts yelling "WILLIE MAYS!" or (shudder) "BARRY BONDS!" at me when I say this, and my answer is that this is my personal definition of the word "greatest" and I'm not saying Buster has been the BEST Giant, but the GREATEST.

I define that word as who accomplished the most, who lead the team to their greatest accomplishments, and in that regard, being the leader & centerpiece of three championships, no one is even close in the SF era.

If he does hang 'em up, I'm very glad he got to have a great comeback season, reminding us of how great a player he was, and still is.

And on the subject of cheating, I've always contended that major league athletes are all degenerate competitors. They compete at everything and they're never satisfied when they win, they MUST compete again.

It's my belief that this addiction to competition is what makes most of them big leaguers, and in that vein I believe almost all major league athletes are vulnerable to at least thinking about cheating, whether it's PEDS or banging on trash cans or corked bats or sticky shit on your hands or whatever, to get an edge, to win.

Over the years I've thought that Buster Posey might be one of the few that wouldn't consider PEDS or other ways of cheating.

If he's quitting now, still with serious game left in his body and massive money left on his contract, that just strengthens my opinion.

The man has never been anything but class and character and he's exactly the type of player we all want to root for (hopefully we won't find out ugly truths about him later).

This news is going to crush the Giants nation.

And yet, as always....

GO GIANTS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Greatest SF Giant.  Mays, Bonds, Posey ???  What, no mention of Willie McCovey ??

Lance Lance Lance I take it all back, you don't know shit about sports, not even your own team.

Oh Ras, did you read what I wrote? Is it THAT hard to understand what I'm saying? Come out of the shallow end of the pool, and pay attention.

"Greatest" isn't about numbers or fame, it's about GREATNESS! TEAM accomplishment. It's really not that hard.

Interesting thoughts there Tom.  I agree that Buster is the greatest in last 20 yrs, and one of the greatest of all time.  He may beat BB into the HOF.   You know I believe BB to be the best hitter of all time, in all of baseball. Greatest SF Giant? Posey for sure. (Mays' best yrs were in NY).  Hard to fault that guy(Posey) for anything. Even him taking last yr off, which I did not appreciate at the time, turned out to be very beneficial to this past season. We would not have been any where near as good without him. And that worries me for next yr. Reports say that the Giants may look for another veteran catcher to compete in the spring, but I say bring up Bart and give him a chance. He can learn defense from Casali.  But I was hoping to have Buster at DH this yr. That would have been perfect(If it is coming{DH}, then we need to adapt.).  But this is really bad news. Bailey might be a player too, but not ready yet. I always assumed that Posey would manage some day, but this puts doubts on that too. Is he done with the game?  Also, if he comes back in 2023, can he win Comeback Player of the Year again?  Frees up 22 mil to pay a pitcher, so I guess that is the dim light in all of this. And frees up a 40 man roster spot. Giants have a logjam there right now. Many top minor leaguers will be exposed to the Rule 5 Draft.

Anyway, yeah, GO GIANTS!!!!

didn't that sissy posey ruin the home plate rules?

:)

Can we add Pete Rose to this discussion?   Not ok to bet on sports but ok to cheat in a game.    Backwards to me.  If Pete gets banned, then all those that were part of it should get banned.
