Wishbone Ash

Forums:

Anyone familiar with the music of Wishbone Ash, or ever see them in concert?

They putting a big tour in Europe and swinging by the states for some shows. (Stopping by here in Bayshore in September)

WA has well over 20 albums and I don't know where to begin, if at all

They're popular all over Europe and here in Sheboygan, I suppose.

XM plays their stuff and I like it.

What do you guys think about Wishbone Ash?

Andy Powell the founder is still running the show.

Go! Saw them back in the day and about fifteen years ago in NOLA. Those harmonies...

Thank you sir!!

Great band...my brother was listening to them from day one...(late 60 s early 70 s?)...

Saw them once years later...and they rocked...good show

Great. Thanks Mr. Jambone.

Never seen 'em, and no idea who's in the band now or what they're like, but I liked them back in the day - I think the only album I have is Argus, which is pretty good.

Thank you, Mr. Surfdead. Argus seems to where I should start.

Argus is a totally great album. So now I have to buy another Wishbone Ash album just to keep up. :)

Harmonies and fucking screaming guitar action is what I recall the two or three times I saw them. I have a hard time imagining any thing less what ever this version of the band is. Bottom line , you get to here some rare Wishbone Ash music, kind sir. I am envious of your opportunity, Bluelight.

A great twin lead guitar band. Argus is a great starting point. Live Dates was the album that I played the most back in the 1970's.

Thanks. I just sent an email to the theater manager to get rocking on ticket sales, the show is not that far away.

This really helped folks.

There's the Rub is another good one, check out F.U.B.B. off that one

Saw them in the early 70's. Great band. Hope they are still playing well.

So looking forward to seeing Wishbone Ash this Saturday in Bayshore

Seats are still available.

nice video, thanks.

I always loved Andy Powell's tone.

Thanks man.

Alias was right about Argus. Great album.

@ 10:30, Fuck yeah

Uriah Heep's Demons and Wizards album is of the same vein as Wishbone Ash in my opinion.

Good stuff.

Smokin video Bluelight. Thanks for posting.

Thanks Guys!!

Wishbone Ashe put on rocking yet intimate show last night at the Boulton Center on the south shore of Long Island.

I think they're at Daryl's house tonight BB Kings, tonight, then up to Buffalo

There were folks from all over Europe and they had an interpreter to help the band intermingle with their fans that  were " Rocking & Rolling all over God's world"

I picked up the 24 Bit Remaster of Argus & live CD before the show. I took my father who's favorite guitar player is Carlos Santana. Loves the sound of the Gibson guitar as Savoy Brown was big hit with him back in May. We loved the show.

They covered most of Argus and had nice acoustic set in the middle of the show. The show climaxed with F.U.B.B & Blowin Free.

The encore was a jazz/vocal/scat song, that I can get the name yet.

Below are some photographs I hand taken from last night.

Sorry, I meant to write that Wishbone Ashe is at Daryl's House, BB Kings, then on up to Buffalo.

Just last week my Co-Producer at WBAI's 'Morning Dew' Radio Show, Stu Robins did a fine interview with Andy Powell of Wishbone Ash. Here is the archival podcast player link:

https://www.wbai.org/archive.php

In the 2nd hour, Stu speaks at length to Martin Barre of Jethro Tull.

Enjoy!

Thanks. It looks like I'll be seeing Martin Barre next week, so the interview is mighty timely.

How do you define your tone, which has become more refined and sustained over the years?

I don't think about tone much. When I was growing up in the '50s, in a little housing estate after the war, a lot of neighborhood guys would walk down the street whistling. My dad was a champion whistler, and I whistled, too. Something in what they were doing... I like to think that's where I first got the idea to solo on a guitar from. It used to thrill me to try to get my whistling together.

There was also a guitar player I heard when I was young named Django Reinhardt, and he had some beautifully ebullient solos. That fed into my fluid style, and over the years I've become more measured and don't throw everything up against the wall. The overriding thing really is trying to get what's in my heart or my mind across, so that dictates my approach to tone. As long as the sustain of the humbucking pickups is there, and I can overdrive my amps and get harmonics, I can plug into a really wide range of amplifiers and get a really good tone. Good players really have intrinsic tone. I'll experiment with overdrive units and change out pickups, but I think that even if I pick up an acoustic I have my own sound.

Nice article. Thanks Steve.
