Who used to get down at the roller rink?

Forums:

Fly speed skates and a couple of nice rinks?  Do tell.

I was a speed skater and general rink rat. My first job ever was wearing the stinky mouse costume for the weekend kids skates... sometimes when the moon is right I can still smell the combination of teenage sweat and vomit that lived inside that Mouse's head...

My son went to a girls birthday party on a Saturday afternoon when he was about 9.

The place was packed with mostly lil girls 13 and younger with a couple of birthday parties going on. There were a couple of older high school girls who worked there skating around and helping kids get up and whatnot.

Everything seemed normal except for one thing.

There was a man there. He was a whit guy who was starting to bald he was 35-40 years old. He wore short shorts. I mean fuckin weird short cut jeans. He wore a pink sparkling button up shirt tied in a knot at his belly and unbuttoned to the knot. He had the Mr. T stater set of gold chains. He also was wearing 1980 Flashdance leg warmers, pink to match his shirt.

He danced, skated, giving karate chops and kicking his legs in the air, he shook his ass and was singing he was trying to hold hands and skate with all the kids. It was so fuckin creepy.

I went to the office to ask about him and they said he comes in every Saturday from mid morning to closing time. She told me the police have been called on many occasions and he is totally allowed to do this. She agreed she thought he was odd and he was dressed very conservatively that day.

11 years later my Son out of the blue will ask if I remember the man who tried to skate with him that day. I always tell him How can I forget.

I have two left feet, but was at this 8/16/84 Good Skates JGB show at a Roller Rink:

super creepy, I hope ya karate chopped his balls.

that's awesome Bluelight!  $13.50!

It was!

It was in was strip mall.  A hot night. We were the first there and there could not have been more then 250 by the end of the night.

Saw The Band in a Roller rink in the summer of '85. Great show, Chest Fever, the whole 9 yards.

After the show, we had a few cases of beer and The Band were damn thirsty. Hung out with Levon, Garth, Richard and Rick Danko until the sum came up the next day.

There was no shortage of defunct Roller Rinks & Strips Malls around here in the 1980's.

hot shit!

Yep. I used to get down at the roller rink. The Florham Park Roller Rink to be exact. The rink is still there. I believe it started up in the 50's. So many memories connected with that place. Little known fact about me is that I was an extra in the very first US Tic Tac commercial which was filmed there. They "paid" us in the expanded flavor offerings before they were available for sale. I actually got a date because I had Tic Tacs that nobody else had. LOL

Ice skating for me - pretty good at it too

Lived in AK during my youth for 3 years- that's all there was to do in the winter

Then I skated  Sutro's in SF ...before it burned to the ground.
