Who had their Facebook Data affected?

Forums:

Interested in seeing how many people on Viva were affected.

Also...

If you've been affected, does it matter to you?

Yes it does matter to me.  I permanantly deleted my account on 3/31.  Facebook definitely added value to my life but it's not worth it for me anymore at this point.

..feels good being away.. like I'm rewiring my brain back to its natural evolutionary state on some deep level.

EDIT:

To any of you who were friends with me on FB my email is [email protected] if you'd like to drop me a line directly.

I refused to do Facebook from the start, was never on it because it was obviously a huge personal data mining operation and I never felt comfortable with it.

It's used by people to communicate and share stuff.

The user provides content they like.

If your data wasn't used it's probably because you don't provide useable data.

I doubt my data was used.

>>> If your data wasn't used it's probably because you don't provide useable data.

ALL data was stolen.

What you think is useable data doesn't matter.

If you're one of the Millions, ALL your data was stolen.

Everybody has a reason for why they defend having FB or not.

This isn't a shamey finger thread.

I would like to know what people are thinking etc.

>>>>What you think doesn't matter

>>>>I would like to know what people are thinking.

I would like like to know what was used and how.

>>> I would like like to know what was used and how.

Right.

Why would they steal information/data if they didn't have a myriad of purposes for it?

Question is why isn't Facebook suing the fuck out of Cambridge Analytica?

The Zuck has personally lost a shit ton of money.

The data was used for the worst possible thing in a democracy, to influence the election.

I don't think my data was used to influence the election. I'm not very influential.

do you see ads for pool supplies?

>>> I don't think my data was used to influence the election. I'm not very influential.

You may not be very influential.

Doesn't mean you didn't get your shit stolen.

That's like stealing the Hope Diamond from you, then the thief uses it for ass play.

Doesn't matter that the thief who stole your diamond likes to stick stuff in their ass.

It's the fact they stole it from you.

In other words you think your benign when in actuality you've been violated.

What was stolen and how was it used against me?

Slack - Can I suggest a name change for you? Sea Lion??

Oh shit now I have to learn a new phrase I still don’t know wtf cat fishing and gas lighting are

lol

Most of my facebook life consists of communicating with my bands.  The other, small, part consists of me shaking my head at the stupid shit that people post. My phone isn't listed and I use a burner email so I'm not all that concerned about privacy.

So this is comparable to when the thief, Jeff Kirly stole identities on the old zone. Once a thief always a thief.

If you do Facebook this tells you how to have them send you an email with all the data they have about you.

Should be interesting...

I'm a little vague about what "data" facebook has on me.

When I signed up I put in almost nothing for my personal info, and I virtually never post anything. I don't have a smartphone and I think I've started one "thread" and rarely even "like" anything; I'm a lurker.

I do have photos on there, but nothing embarrassing or important, and I'm not too concerned about face recognition.

If it's tracking what I may be interested in or what I may be shopping for I really don't care, and ultimately we choose to put our information/data into the place when we sign up and use it; if it's offered freely to begin with is it really stealing?

If they were getting my bank account passwords and such I would be worried, but I don't care if they know what I like or look at.

Anyway, in this day & age is anything really private?

I didn't get a Facebook message.

Sea-lioning?  Less clunky than faux-obtuse dickishness, I guess.

What is the origin?

[No. Really.smiley]

hi briand - glad we're friends on facebook.  if viva had the cool knuckle icon available we would be more than cool!

I'm not on Facebook, you lying skank.

>>you lying skank.

hello, briand just had a flashback to the eighties when he had a love for fundies. calm down.

GFY.

Your desperation for my attention is no excuse.

briand do you still also use the term "poontang"?

yeah, you're the best I can't help it!

no excuse?  interesting, do you have one for not being able to express yourself in a colorful manner without curse acronyms? LOFL!

you lying skank.<<,

UP Yours bluesnote !

I'll Pop Ya  a Fisty One IN THE__________Mouth !

>>> when we sign up and use it; if it's offered freely to begin with is it really stealing?

That's pretty much where it all begins.

You sign up and agree to their terms.

Which means you gave them everything.

To do whatever they want with.

The ads, your website tracking visits, spending habits etc.

Have been happening for quite awhile on FB.

That's NOT what Cambridge Analytica does.

***Cambridge Analytica (CA) is a British political consulting firm which combines data mining, data brokerage, and data analysis with strategic communication for the electoral process.

So why do they want your data?

Here's something real interesting happening with Cambridge Analytica.

Apparently they've got a wider network of firms.

I often post about the lack of affordable housing in the Bay Area.

Dewitt thought I hacked her Facebook one time.

lol, to do what?

Plf, brian d would never talk such a way in person.  If he wants to be cool I'll get him a fresh new 6 pack of white tube socks.

good old plf. never thought i'd see 'up yours' as an insult.

kudos.

Has anyone received the notification yet?  I am wondering if the Russians stole mine.

I will be curious though--I have known about the Cambridge stuff for about a year but am curious about how it translates into practice.  I don't do that "which rock star are you" or use apps on fb, but I have friends who do, so will be curious as to what that gets them.

Dear admin,

Not sure if you noticed or not but Brian D's misogyny directed towards Sarah 4 winds goes directly against the rules of Viva. A 30 day timeout should be put in place to get him back in shape and if it happens again, a full banning. Thanks for being fair and keeping Viva an inclusive place for all.

Best,

JR

I usually dig your posts , JR but that is rather harsh, man.

edit to add. Your post reads like a memo.

JR thinks lying isn't skanky.

Have you ever used the word "skanky" to describe a guy?

As an adjective, plenty.

As a noun, in only one sad (propr noun) case.  Pretty sure he was my HS class' first hard drugs fatality.

I don't think I've ever heard it about a guy, but I guess I haven't paid it much attention if I have.

Doh.  Proper noun, that is.

But now that I think about it, he was probably in the grade ahead of me.  He had also (mostly) shaken the name by his last 3-4 years alive, and was called by a nickname spun off his actual first name.  But he was a shell by then.  We never figured out where he was copping, but his route took him past our usual beers n' guitars rock formation.

I mean yeah fb is a bunch of scandalous ass motherfuckers but did you ever really think your ass had privacy on there?
