The Who Hits Back 2022

Image

Saw them at the Spectrum in 1979 for the first time a few weeks after Cincinnati.  Then in 82 (their first "final" tour) in Pittsburgh and 89 in Foxboro, 2022 a week aft Ox's death at the Shoreline in Mt. View and then again 3 years ago in SF at the new Chase Center.  Don't expect the Who of your youth--unless your youth is now. That said, its 1/2 the Who and half a loaf is still better than no loaf at all! One I wish I went to and missed because I was away at summer camp was JFK Stadium in Philly Yes / Gary Wright / Peter Frampton June 12, 1976

I saw The Who in "82 @ JFK & in '89 @ Vet Stadium.

I was in the area and picked up a ticket the day of the show in '16 @ MSG...it was not the Who of my youth  indecision

"The Two"

Possibly Bethel. Love when they mix it up and not just do their greatest hits. Last tour they mixed it up a bit, but Relax should come out of retirement, a nice loud Relax, and they should do some of the new stuff that rocks pretty hard, and solo shit too. Love to hear Rough Boys and Under A Raging Moon.

Man In A Purple Dress would be a hoot to hear.

Thank God them old crustaceans Pete + Roger got that human buzzsaw Zak Starkey to hold em up. Seen the band with a few different bangers, Moon, Kenny Jones, Simon Philips, Zak.  Zak is da shit !!! Best since Keith.

Rock On Boys

My only show was the last show of the sad 79 tour at the Capital Centre in Md. Lost interest after they said 82 tour was their final tour. Yet they keep coming back.

Saw them retire countless times

August 1989, as I was walking in I got gifted with 5th row dead center at Joe Robbie Stadium.

That was a show and a party for the ages.

Young, Dumb and full of acid.

^ Niiiiiiiiiiiice

I think if the Stones ever call it a day, so will The Who.

But Pete n Roger will be dammed if them Jagger Richards wankers are gonna outlast em

I was at the '82 JFK shoe.

I recall it being The Who, The Clash and Santana (and The Hooters, of course LOL).

I've seen them countless times but am bummed they are dragging out an orchestra again.  It was good in 2019 but I don't need to see that again...

The Hooters--my ole tapping buddy's friend managed them.  Haven't thought about them in 40 years but they were one of Philly's biggest back then and saw them a few times--Brandywine Club in Chadds Ford (saw Bobby & The Midnites there, too), good ole Bijou Cafe (my favorite) and I think Grendel's Liar on South Stree come to mind

I was also at the 82 JFK show, if I recall it was billed as their farewell tour.

1976 - 1st Unoffical Farewell Tour (Keith's last)

1982 - 1st Official Farewell Tour

1989 - Semi-Official Reunion/Farewell Tour

2000 - 2nd Unofficial Farewell Tour (John's last)

2002 - Official Farewell/Tribute to Entwistle Tour

2022 - Official We-Really-F#%king-Mean-It-This-Time-Cuz-We're-F#%king-Old Farewell Tour

76 was not considered a fairwell tour--wasn't billed that way and there wasn't serious consideration of calling it quits. Keith and Pete's alcoholism, among other things made 76 through 78 pretty rough https://www.thewho.com/years/1976/ They did take a break until the December 15, 1977, Gaumont State Theatre in Kilburn, North London show and then played one other show after that at Shepperton Studios on 25 May 1978 in front of a hand-picked audience of 500.That was it for Keith. 82 was the first official bye bye

I only saw Shea '82.  I  learned recently (here, I think) that The Clash open for them.   Must've been while my buddy and I were in traffic.

The Clash opened at Shea. I was there......took the train abs avoided the traffic!

And Yet after all these years Very Few Quality Live Bootlegs

Saw them at ASU in Tempe, AZ in August. Power went out in the Events Center.

Yes they have milked the last tour over and over, thank god they did not retire. would love to hit that small hall at the Hard Rock, but I am over spending big money for shows. It's all going the way that sports has gone, pricing the fan out of the building

>> saw them a few times--Brandywine Club in Chadds Ford <<

Where was that club? Heck, I used to ski at Chadd's Peak :)

I remember the Hooters playing at the Tally-Ho Inn next to the Brandywine Race Track (Harness racing at its worst).

I forgot the Hooters opened the JFK show.

They opened for the Dregs @ the Philly Zoo a couple months earlier. I recall monkeys swinging behind the stage.

I saw The Hooters open for someone, but don't remember who.  I'll figure it out by process of elimination.  I know it was The Pier in NYC.

Rickie Lee Jones is a possibility.

Brandywine Club was on Route 1 as I recall--1241 Baltimore Pike, Chadds Ford. The Tally-Ho Inn, that is memory jogger.  Liberty Bell Race track was harness racing at its finest--my dad used to take me there on the weekends. Same with Keystone Racetrack in Bensalem...gosh, those were the days.

Does The Who still use Pino?

^ not since 2016. A shame, he also brought the thunder.

He's joining John Boy this summer --

Winter, spring, summer,  its all the same

Interesting Rolling Stone interview with Pete Townshend;

<<Pete Townshend on the Who’s 2022 Tour, the Keith Moon Biopic, and His Inevitable Retirement

The guitarist also sounds off on the absurdity of NFTs, the future of classic rock, the Spotify controversy, why he loves Freaks and Geeks, and more>>

Found this curious;

<<How will Covid impact the way you tour? I know that Elton John and the Rolling Stones have been forced to basically create a traveling Covid bubble. Will you be doing something similar?
"We have no choice, unfortunately. The insurers are the ones making these dictates. This is not the Rolling Stones or Elton John [making these calls]. This is the insurers. They are insisting that they won’t pay out if you cancel because of Covid. That’s the first thing. And secondly, if they do pay out, they only pay out 85 percent. And thirdly, they up their charges from 2.5 percent to 5 percent and now to 8 percent of the gross income on a tour. It’s absolutely brutal."
...
"I’m happy that they paid us, but one of the stipulations is that when we travel, we’re not allowed to leave our hotel rooms. We have to travel in a very small bubble. And when we’re at the show, we’re not allowed to leave our dressing rooms."
...
"We’ve been in the business now for 60 years. People see our name on a billboard. If they have a phone number of a friend or someone in the crew, or they can get to my PA, they can arrange to meet me. On some occasions, we can fit in a dinner or a family visit. On other occasions, other celebrities or other band members, people I’ve never met, can come backstage and come meet me and talk about music and stuff. The social side of it is really, really valuable to me. I’m not very sociable and I’m not very active socially, so I love it.">>

the who's on first?

Pino with "The Who" was dulldulldull, and Ringo's son has always been even worse.

This isn't The Who's Left anymore, it's The Who The Hell Is This?!!?

Still, if I get a free/very cheap ticket I'll go, just to see Townshend again, because even in this sham of a group he's still one of the Mt. Rushmore of rock gods.

Overall it will likely be incredibly sad, but there's never been anyone like him, and there won't be again any time soon.

Agree about Pino, not so much on Zak.......he's a great drummer.

Pete say's I don't deserve to be alive today

That sounds more appropriate for Crosby.
