should we go?? I know there's a separate travel section but I wasn't sure how much traffic it gets..

So... I'm planning to take my kids on an amazing vacation this summer.. but I am stumped as to where to go that they would love as much as I would. I have 3 boys ~ 15, 14 and 10 (he'll be 11 by the summer). can be in the US or outside the country.

suggestions/recommendations?? we live on the east coast and have been up and down the coast so preferably somewhere not on the east coast lol..

you might consider:

nature

and art

and history

sightseeing and playing

and culture (education too )

and FUN

what the hell do they love?

You can always go the dartboard route

Zion, Bryce and The Grand Canyon are all near each other and worth visiting.

Are you looking for urban or natural?

Resort or roughing it?

Or a combination or somewhere in the middle?

More cultural or more relax?

Do you like tropics or mountains or deserts or ruins or castles?

So many options...

i would avoid caribbean in summer, hot and hurricane season, plus if you are looking to visit some cultural things, better off in europe or southern hemisphere imo

Good golly! An Ed sighting. Good morning my good man. Had no idea that was your handle.

6 had a good idea if you want to do nature stuff. Southern Utah national parks and the Grand Canyon are in close proximity.

Fly into Vegas for cheaper flights, and the glitz and glam will be the complete opposite of the beauty you'll see when you leave there.

But my thought was Africa. Wildlife viewing, and glimpses into how many people in the world live with the basics or less. Could be a real eye-opener, especially for a teenager.

Happy Travels!

I took my teenage son to Africa in 2017, Senegal, definitely an eye opener.  It may be too extreme if you are looking for a "fun" trip that is relaxing and comfortable.

Rent an rv and haul them down highway 89, starting up at the Canadian border and south right into Flagstaff. Unfortunately there is no more Grateful Dead tour, but you and the kids can still embark on the great American adventure.

Where are you from? How much time, 15,14,11 might dig Disney World and beaches. When I was 14 we went to the Keys for summer vacation. Marathon to be exact. Had a blast snorkeling and fishing trip.

Anywhere out west would be good for a road trip.   Bring camping stuff if you do.

For places outside the country, Belize is great.   Its a compact but diverse country that mixes Afro-Caribbean and Mesoamerican cultures.   Lots of Mayan ruins that you can climb on, plus jungles, world class coral reefs, and white sand beaches.   As a bonus, they speak English.    It does get hurricanes, but they don't usually pick up until late summer.

If you are thinking about Europe, you may want to consider Eastern Europe.   Tons of castles, old cities, and historical sites from the Bronze Age up through WWII and the Cold War.   It's also much less expensive than Western Europe and English is widely spoken (at least in the cities) as a sort common language of convenience.

Oh I see your on the east coast so probably did Florida. Too many places to recommend. Are you on a budget and time restraint? The kids have passports?

The PNW is usually cooler in the Summer than the rest of the country.  You could stay on the coast and see Vancouver, Seattle, The Oregon Coast and the Redwoods in Northern California.  You'll get a lot of fog on the coast, but will be a short drive inland to the sun and warmer temps.   A trip like this would give you a chance to have urban and wilderness experiences.  If you just want to be outdoors, Glacier and Yellowstone are both pretty amazing.  If you want to travel a little further, The Black Hills (Rushmore, Crazy Horse), The Badlands, Little Big Horn, Wounded Knee and Devil's Tower are good options.
