Cap One:  Pay Minimum balance even if NOT owed***

I had a recurring $12.95 charge.  Minimum said $25.00 on September 2022 invoice .  I paid the $12.95 owed; BIG MISTAKE.

Cap one charged a $25.00 fee twice and $36.00 once plus interest charges :  Minimum payment not made.

I spoke with customer NO-Service 3 times:

1)  Explained to agent.  Says "need to verify."  Put me on hold 13 mins.  Came back and said: "minimum payment not made." Explained owed $12.95.  "yes, we see that but you did not make minimum payment of $25.00, thus $25.00 + interest charges.  Nothing I can do more.

2)  Explained to agent.  Says "need to verify."  Put me on hold 13 mins.  Came back and said: "minimum payment not made." Explained owed $12.95.  "yes, we see that but you did not make minimum payment of $25.00, thus $25.00 + interest charges.  Nothing I can do more.  Exact same verbiage and hold time.  Nothing Agent can do.

3)  Explained to agent.  Says "need to verify."  Put me on hold 13 mins.  Came back and said: "minimum payment not made." Explained owed $12.95.  "yes, we see that but you did not make minimum payment of $25.00, thus $36.00 + interest charges.  Nothing I can do more.  Again, Exact same verbiage and hold time.  Nothing Agent can do,  but this time offered to initiate "CASE."

Now, owe over $100.00 for a simple $12.95 recurring charge.

December 13, 2022, I wrote Cap One a detailed letter citing CASE # 221213201455156 and requesting that "false charges" be credited.  No response of any kind.   Nothing.

***If you have CAP ONE, DO NOT USE THIS CREDIT CARD.  Use CITI Visa from Costco (they take care of problems right away and wave fees, etc without having to ask.  CAP ONE does nothing for it's customers.

Please post this on Facebook / Twitter / tik tok / etc.  Thank you and helping out

Cut up the card, send it back, close the account

If you "must" have a credit card, get one through your local member owned credit union where you have at least some measure of actual 3D customer support

otherwise, keep to cash

What Mice said. I had a Cap 1 in the late 80s and had an issue with trying to get to a zero balance. For several months, they kept carrying forward a small interest balance even though I was paying the total each month. They even told me the only way to stop the perpetual interest charge was to close the account, which I did. There was a class action against them a few years later about this and I think I got a few bucks back from the settlement. After you close the account, be sure to check with the big 3 credit reporting agencies to make sure the account is listed as closed by you. I also echo the credit union route.

Perhaps the telephone rep(s) was just a bot? It's getting harder and harder to figure these things out. I had a "nonprofit" call a me few times, and it was truly difficult to figure out it wasn't real. I had suspicions after the first call but it wasn't until the end of the second that I figured it out (I think it hung up when I asked the "guy" if he was a robot). He sounded really natural and human.

AGAIN,  DO NOT USE CAPITAL ONE CREDIT CARD FROM HELL!!!

Update:  Received form letter response unsigned:  No Credit.  Ha.  Messed with wrong person here.  Now:

Next Step:  File Complaint with Attorney General and Department of Business and Industry Nevada Consumer Affairs.

If you owed 0 would they ding you for not paying $25 or was it a scheme to keep you using the card by giving you a negative balance? I reported Care Credit to my bank for double charging me. fwiw I did pay twice to be certain my first payment hadn't failed when I was invoiced the second time, and Care Credit canceled my account when my bank took up the double charges with them. I was just using CC for the zero interest introductory offer anyhow, and I got my second payment back, so no skin off my nose.

Paid amount of charges in full, less then $25.00.  So according to CapOne, failed to pay minimum of $25.00 thus $25.00 past due fee,  Insanity.  Why must you pay $25.00 if you owe $14.95 in charges, nothing else.

Andy, you probably agreed to that when you got the card and didn't read all the legal mumbo jumbo that came with it. Or they slipped it past you when they sent you an update to their terms, which again are written in a way that's always all but indecipherable.

Buy something for $25  then cancel the card and tell them to stick it up their ass

Capital One's primary fiduciary responsibility is to its shareholders; to return to them as much money as they possibly can.

They don't have any responsibility to you other than to take as much money from you as they possibly can. You do realize this, right?

this doesn't require chain emails and an internet audience to solve

just get out the scissors and cowboy up
