Gov and the rest of the usual
Gov and the rest of the usual state offices. Senator and Congressperson. Four state ballot measures, one local school tax, and a bunch of misc. unopposed local seats for this and that.
I'm trying to prepare my mind in advance for most of my candidates losing..
Hope the Ds can keep the Senate - pretty sure the House is a lost cause.

Glad I voted early, looks like a red wave and a red moon tuesday night listening to the pollsters, BUT!
Kansas did have a huge turn out earlier this year to say F!k the Repugs on their abortion decisions, so it all comes down to turnout. (as it always does).
First, lets get real with some truthiness!

The Reproductive Liberty
The Reproductive Liberty Amendment, previously Prop 5, will be a ballot measure in Vermont's 2022 General Election. If passed, it would amend Vermont's constitution to protect every person's right to make their own reproductive decisions, like whether and when to become pregnant, use temporary or permanent birth control, or seek abortion care.
Sec 2. Article 22 of Chapter I of the Vermont Constitution is added to read:
Article 22. [Personal reproductive liberty]
That an individual’s right to personal reproductive autonomy is central to the liberty and dignity to determine one’s own life course and shall not be denied or infringed unless justified by a compelling State interest achieved by the least restrictive means.
The words "compelling state interest" provide the highest legal protection we can give a constitutional right in the United States. A compelling state interest may override fundamental constitutional rights, ONLY if it satisfies the strict scrutiny test. A state interest is compelling if it is essential or necessary rather than a matter of choice, preference, or discretion.
So in this situation, if the amendment did NOT include those words, a judge or court could limit someone's right to personal reproductive autonomy based on their choice, preference, or discretion.
In short, that sentence offers the highest protection we can give personal reproductive autonomy. If the words "compelling state interest" were not included, then our rights would be far less protected.
Also,
We'll finally elect a female to Congress. With Leahy's retirement, Peter Welch, our current representative, is running for his spot and will win. Becca Balint will win Vermont's sole seat in the House.

Governor's race is one of the
Governor's race is one of the big ticket items. There is an independent potential spoiler running that makes the governor's race here in Oregon a real nail biter for the first time in decades.
There is also a sweeping gun control proposition on the ballot. I am a gun owner and have traditionally been skeptical of new gun control legislation, but this year I voted yes. Will probably get struck down as unconstitutional if it does pass, but what the fuck. Might as well try something to keep guns away from the crazies.
In the local elections there is a ballot measure that would bring ranked choice voting to local elections. Yes on that for sure and would eliminate the spoiler effect.

The governor's race as Ken mentioned above has many of us on edge. The spoiler won't win and the alternative is scary as she can be.
Do you have Alek Skarlotos up there, Pdx people? I think he's in Douglas County and he's among the worst that there can be. His commercials are on here but he wasn't on my ballot to vote against.
Have hope, all. And vote!

Was happy to see measure 112, sheesh Oregon! Was surprised to see Vermont in the group...
Was looking up the measure and found this article:
Yes, slavery is on the ballot in Oregon and four other states
Voters in Alabama, Louisiana, Oregon, Tennessee and Vermont will decide on state constitutional amendments prohibiting slavery and involuntary servitude, in some cases except for work by incarcerated people

One glimmer of hope, my AL
One glimmer of hope, my AL State Senator, the Honorable Vivian Figures (D), looks likely to retain her seat despite gerrymandering that dumped a white, repug enclave FROM ACROSS THE BAY into her district.
Her opponent is a local Limbaugh wannabe radio host who was at J6.
At the end of this the two US Senators will be a football coach who is dumber than Hershel and a lady Trumper whose commercial featured her tale of her daughter's hallucination of seeing Jebus in a storm cloud.
Ruth is stranger than friction.

Our gun control law passed in
Our gun control law passed in Oregon, now the Sheriffs are starting to weigh in;
<<
Message from Sheriff Michelle Duncan on Ballot Measure 114:
Unfortunately, we are seeing the passage of Ballot Measure 114, which creates a required permitting system in order to purchase firearms AND bans gun magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds. This is a terrible law for gunowners, crime victims, and public safety.
I want to send a clear message to Linn County residents that the Linn County Sheriff’s Office is NOT going to be enforcing magazine capacity limits.
This measure is poorly written and there is still a lot that needs to be sorted out regarding the permitting process, who has to do the training and what exactly does the training have to cover. In the coming days, I will work with other law enforcement partners, elected officials and community members on the best course of action to take on permitting. I want to ensure anything we do or don’t do will not hinder gunowners’ rights to purchase firearms, intentionally or unintentionally.
Although, I am hopeful that the passing of this measure will result in an immediate lawsuit against it, as it should, there is still going to be a lot to sort out on how this will impact our residents, the Linn County Sheriff’s Office and other police agencies in Oregon.
I will continue to inform the public as decisions are made.
Sheriff Michelle Duncan>>
