What's doing in Oakland

Forums:

Trip to SF aborted due to accident on bridge Suggestions for stuff to do in Oakland that we haven't done before?

what kinda stuff are you looking for? i am mostly a food guy so i will throw out some suggestions for good eats. berkeley is also included here they are basically the same place.

ramen - shiba ramen, ippudo, ramen shop

nice sit down meal - camino, oliveto, ippuku

burgers - smashburger, kronerburger(my fave burger of all time)

jewish - sauls deli, beauty's bagels

sushi - uzen, kirala, sushi sho(el ceritto)

mexican - [email protected]

do you have a cannabis card? there are a few events going on in the area today you can swoop cheap flowers and hash straight from the companies that make em.

ever been to the UC berkeley botanical garden(not to be confused with tilden botanical garden)? they have all kinds of awesome stuff, and one of the most stunningly huge collections of psychedelic cacti in the state. if you go at the right time of year(spring) you can also find a bunch of opium poppies if you know what to look for. but aside from that, its a beautiful and super interesting place.

brent's grave over in lafayette

Daylight, if I remember correctly, you're a ramen guy. Which of those three ramen places above would you recommend to hit first?

Pity we had ramen on Thurs. We are pondering hetty Szechuan at Spice 3 or a German beer garden.

We stopped in Vegan Donut Gelato this morning in Oakland on our way to Tilden park. Lunch at Butcher’s Son and now sitting in traffic headed south. Messy near the maze. Beautiful day out, enjoy. Maybe try boating on Lake Merritt?

people pay to eat ramen at resturants?

California is weird.

It's not weird. Soup in a can vs good soup

He's confusing it with freeze-dried noodles and a packet of chemicals.

rando - depends. if you are up for a trip to sf i'd recommend mensho tokyo above all others. if not, ramen shop has the best ramen but it is expensive and usually has a wait. ippudo has a really good pork tonkotsu. shiba is the most traditional japanese ramen experience, less expensive, casual, etc, like ramen is in japan. most bowls there are solid, the shoyu/dark is my fave there.

>>people pay to eat ramen at resturants?

you might only know ramen as top ramen, but hundreds of years before top ramen was invented, ramen has been a labor intensive noodle soup that is currently one of the most, if not THE most beloved dish in japan today. i guarantee that you could not cook a proper bowl of ramen no matter how hard you tried.

its not a california thing, its just how ramen actually is in japan.

americans who complain about "top ramen in restaurants" are the same assholes who think tacos all have hard yellow corn shells and are filled with lettuce and grated cheddar;

"if thats not the way it works in my little backwards ass bubble it must not exist"

Thx Daylight.  Mensho it is.  Will report back.

Appreciate the OAK picks as well as it's on my side of the bridge.  I'm a late adopter but am starting to appreciate.

Bowling & Bocce at Jack London Square?  (Don't order the chickenwink).

People other than retired Italian guys in white wife-beaters are playing bocci now?

Go fig.
