What's the deal with open-face "sandwiches"?

Forums:

Can these even legitimately be called sandwiches?

Is this a Seinfeld thread?

Yes.

Plf,

Started eating Maria's chic sesame sando in '87.  As a Brentwood '89 grad (about two blks away), that's when I could start getting off campus to grab Maria's.  Most went for the slice and soda combo but it was always about the chicken sesame sandwich.  Extra dressing, hot peppers on the side.

Yum!

Can string cheese be called a band?

Open faced sandwiches make me strangley happy

I like a good open face sandwich. My mom used to make great open faced roast beef sandwiches with gravy that would no doubt fall apart eaten in the yraditional manner.

There's place near me, Kelly's Tavern that makes a Reuben you couldn't eat as a regular sandwich. You can't get near the place on St Patty's day. When I go to Katz' Deli in NYC (don't really like the Carnegie), I end up eating most of the corned beef or pastrami with a fork anyway.

My 2 cents fwiw.

Nothing against mom, but again, that is not a "sandwich".

to quote eric the half a bee

"Half a bee, philosophically,
Must, ipso facto, half not be.
But half the bee has got to be
Vis a vis, its entity. D'you see?

But can a bee be said to be
Or not to be an entire bee
When half the bee is not a bee
Due to some ancient injury?"
