What Makes a Strain OG?

Forums:

I asked this a few weeks ago. Is this article refutable?

I know where you got that, and read it too.

Sounds about right.

Getting all sophisticated and stuff, sure takes the fun out it.

Where I found the link?

I am trying out some Alien OG this year. Never heard of it but liked the name.

Strain Highlights

First available as a clone in California’s Bay Area and now in seed form from Cali Connection, Alien OG is a cross of Tahoe OG and Alien Kush. One of the most potent strains available today, this indica-dominant hybrid has tested as high as 28% THC. Alien OG has the typical lemon-pine “OG” smell and flavor, and an intense high that combines heavy indica body effects and a psychedelic cerebral buzz. Beginners and novices, be sure to take it slow with this heavy-hitter.

Our og we have had for 14 years tested at 28 to 30 percent right out of the gate .Most og crosses are to make it easier to grow . Pure unadulterated   og is still the best .

I....I....I don't like the og's.

Jonas it might be easier ei shorter if you told us what you do like, I'm guessing it's a really short list

I like strains from that part of the world, but not the ones with a"Kush" in their lineage. - those seem harsh and make me cough.

Got some Killer Larry OG at Harborside en route to the Roger Water's Show at Oracle Arena on Saturday.
That is some mighty fine flower.....

i like the larry.

Bweir - I was just riffing off of the Soupy Sales reference, did you think that I was a stutterer?

>>>Killer Larry OG

Love the names, reminds me of being at the horse race track.

So after I read that article, a  theoretical question. If a pure sativa that has grown between the two 30* parallels was planted above the parallels and reproduced on its own accord, the geography of the planting would naturally make the plant evolve(over time of course) into an indica?

I Want Larry OG...

I don't know, Jaz,  it it would probably be in the DMZ between North and South Korea.

Yep ,Brian that is a parallel we hear a lot about.

OK  to be specific please correct me if I am wrong. The Kush comes from(originated)  Afghanistan, if I recall correctly. Hash plant I believe.

If a few seeds of the Santa Marta Gold from Columbia were planted in the regions of Afghanistan of the hash plant natural growth would the Gold evolve to the region over time into an unadulterated  indica?  Seemingly if the article is correct.

Triangle Kush is supposed to be one of the original, native Indicas to them US, and it came from southern Florida. Isn't outside of the "Kush" parallel?

Yo, what latitude did you grow that OG at? The myrcene levels seem a bit off.

Ocean Grown

original gangsta

yum Larry

The term "Original Gangster" has fuck all to do with weed.

What I'm getting is that it's two letters, and no one really knows fuck all what they really mean or where they originated.

That High Times link in the OP is horrible.

I always thought "OG" meant "Original Gangsta" .

"Old School, Original Gangsta"

What it has to do with naming weeds, I have no clue?

Is it becasue it just sounds cool?

you know, after awhile, its all just GFW.     Ya know? When people ask its just easier to say Good F'n Weed

It all seems a bit elitist.

i wouldn't put too much thought into it. strain names are pretty ridiculous to begin with and completely arbitrary unless you're going to a disp imo. i've heard the same that it originally meant the bud was grown on the seacoast, but i would imagine those lines have been blurred over the years as the strains have been passed around to multitudes of growers.

couple of my fav issues that have come up in the past few years over strain names was cali not being cool with the name "green crack" and trying to rename it. don't remember what their alternative was or is. while i understood the apprehension to "crack" i just thought it was funny and spoke to how silly many of the names were to begin with. then up here we have a grower that puts out "khalifa kush" as "rapper kush" cause there's been a bunch of rumors (that started with dj short) that growers are going to try and copyright specific strain names and he doesn't want some legal team coming after him. i wouldn't be surprised if we start to see some of that in the near future. the ones the marley family put out out are all trademarked. https://www.marleynatural.com/theherb

lately i've been a big fan of the stuff coming from grow op farms out of the spokane area. they're always coming up with new crosses. a fav of mine for a while has been their panda og (berry sour cream x og chem). they've pushed that og chem to the 30+ mark at times and combining it with the flavor of the berry cream is amazing. now they just came out with gorilla grape (gg@4 x vino og) and i have a hard time justifying buying anything else. 'bout as tasty as it gets imo and the latest batch is around 27.
