Bouncin' up and down in his driver's seat, looked over and proclaimed "Now THIS is truckin.'" Got me a next ride into L.I. on his CB, and dropped me off in the middle of a bridge in NY to another trucker.
Happy New Jersey Day to 'da Boss, NJ's best export, and all y'all. And that NJ exit stuff in the John Malkovich movie is a riot.
I've known and loved a couple of Jersey girls in my time, including one (a deadhead from Carteret) who was the younger sister of disgraced ex-Governor McGreevey, but somehow I was never introduced to what I'm led to understand are the unparalleled joys of a pork roll sandwich with egg and cheese.
When I lived in Philly in the early 80s, we used cruise across the Ben Franklin Bridge to buy beer in Cherry Hill because PA liquor laws were so ridiculous. I saw a few really fine GD shows in Jersey too.
When I was 16. my sister's boyfriend took me and his buddy on a surfin' safari from LI down the coast in a 55 Chevy he bought for $25. Slept on the floor of the restaurant at Cape May, NJ waiting for the ferry to MD. Woke up to bacon smells. AM radio only. I heard "Lay Lady Lay" and "A Boy Named Sue" about 6,348 times each in about a 5 day span.
I have never been there but my son and his family who drove up from Georgia to Rhode Island last week, stopped at Liberty Park and got some great shots of the Statue of Liberty.
