It was my first time in Austin. Wow, it’s HOT when it’s not raining there! I wasn't quite prepared for the sauna/monsoon combo that Mother Nature had in store this weekend. Luckily awesome zoners and friends made this a beautiful weekend getaway and the music was top notch. I got there early on Friday when the clueless Uber guy dropped me off at the main entrance, but it wasn’t the main entrance, it was the back area where the bands set up and entered. Got my bearings in time to watch SCI do sound check, they had that sound system cranked up to 11. All kinds of airplanes flew by low throughout the weekend giving the festivities a surrealistic feel, it was just a few miles from the airport.
I thought SCI played progressively better each night. Railroad Earth, The Motet, LOS, and Dub Side of the Moon were all playing hard. JRAD off the charts as usual. Oteil and his friends were another highlight of the evening although I thought Alfareda was a bit overpowering in the mix.
We had excellent Texas bbq at Terry Black’s and got to check out the Barton Springs area before I headed out yesterday. Overall a great weekend and all because Curveball was cancelled, imagine that.
