TV Advice

Forums:

I feel like an old fogey trying to understand all this shit and am tired of googling acronyms.

Looking at:  LED - 2160p - Smart - 4K UHD TV with HDR

Questions: Do I really want need a smart TV?   I prefer plug and play.   If a smart tv is going to make me log in like my kids xbox I'm not sure I really want that.

Is LED typical these days?   Is that what I want?   I'm not stickler for these things so I don't need it to have the perfect blacks or anything like that.   But I also don't want to buy something and regret it.

Any other advice?

Clearly I've been spending too much time outside.

Thanks!

Dont matter, all the new ones are watching you while you're watching it.

My advice, keep your old one.

old one has red lines on it.   Adds a new one every few weeks.

Agree with your sentiment though.   Smart seems worse because of that reason.

One more question.

Is QLED that much better than LED?

Finally had to put our old giant tube TV to rest.
Replaced it with a Samsung - 65" Class - LED - NU6900 Series - 2160p - Smart - 4K UHD TV with HDR from Best Buy. Also, got the Samsung sound bar/woofer with it.
Whole thing came to around $1K with installation/haul-away/extended warranties, etc. I was able to dicker a little, since I paid cash, and keep the price within what I budgeted for.
Supposed to be a good brand. I checked around and many of the people I spoke to who had Samsung products say they are still working well after 10 years.
I like the picture quality, especially for boxing and baseball. O/QLEDs are supposed to be better, but I didn't see that big of a difference for the price.
My son set up an Amazon Prime feed on the thing and it's nice to be able to watch movies and programs I've either never seen before or revisit some of the oldies but, goodies.
We have Directv, which is about all we can get out here in the sticks. Not too crazy about their AT&T Genie product. Lost some conveniences, such as program auto tune and caller ID.
The Amazon/Hulu/Netflix, etc. apps might come in handy if you want to get other fare besides whatever cable/satellite provider you have.
Just depends on how much you want to watch TV, I guess. The younger grandkids dig their toons and movies on it.
Hope this info helps.

Thanks Mylar.   It does help.   Was thinking Samsung too, we've had great success for them.

This one is on sale but always a few bad reviews which make me hesitate.   I try not to do the geek squad deal but actually considering it for the moment.

I think this is your tv

thanks everyone,   just bought something.... little bit smaller and more afordable.

If you have satellite TV, just don't hook the TV up to the internet.  If you have cable it then it won't matter.
