The 'Turkey Bowl' from WaWa...

Forums:

WaWa has their seasonal junque foode offerings every year,  and now it's Turkey season.  I had the Turkey Bowl last night driving back from the Coast.

Maybe that guy was just really good at operating the Micro-Convection oven,  but it was pretty good.

I opted for "Half Mashed-potato / Half Mac & cheese"  as the base for the handful of Turkey slices.  You could choose 'Stuffing'  or 'Rice'...  but that one worked out well.  Don't forget the side of extra Gravy.

Cranberry sauce?

what's a wa wa?

I wasn't interested in the Cranberry Sauce.  There are Cranberries in the Dog kibble,  but he stole the leftover Gravy that I forgot on the porch.

It was his anyway.  A spoonful of Gravy makes the Dog food smell better.

Wawa is native American for geese. Ask Neil young.

WaWa is Cleetus for "7-11"

Sounds like it'd be hitting pretty high on the glycemic index

I don't understand the hype about Wawa.  Good coffee selection, the sandwiches- nothing to write home about.  They moved to the area where I lived at the time and people were freaking out.

Big with the younger generation.

Can you write a think piece about the 711 burrito next?

ppl just like saying WaWa...

Roller grills. discuss

Thanks man. (Cleaning up coffee spray now)

Wawa was once a great little convenience store, but has go downhill the last 15-20 years.

>>>>>what's a wa wa?

A gas station that sells sandwiches.  They can get pretty excited back east in the woods for things that us Southern Californians have been taking for granted for decades.

Timmy, Wawa started as a dairy/convenience store, the gas was added about 15-20 years ago.

Okay.  I just know the people out in the sticks where we lived sure liked it.

Uhhh...What is a WaWa Turkey Bowl?

FYI, Dick Wood Jr is the chairman of the board of directors for Wawa. Grahame Wood started the business, still family run but employees hold a large percentage of the stock.

I went to one last nite on the way home from show ( not much else open here in the sticks ...24hrs :) ) . Had the toasted flatbread with roasted peppers, spinach, turkey ,provo cheese...pretty damn good !

Yes,  they are always open and have more food-ish choices than 7-11.

Their coffee is also better.  Of course the subs are lame compared to the genuine Pizzeria item,  but at 4 AM there are not many choices.  What's neat-O is the touch-screen ordering menu.  You can select your sandwich (or milk shake or etc.) and decide which bizarre combination of sauce,  vegetables,  omions,  and toasting you desire, whole wheat or white roll.

The computer then delivers your desires to the Huperson behind the counter,  who perhaps says "Are you sure you want the Horseradish AND the BBQ sauce?"  And then you say "Ooohh,  I forgot to ask for 1000 Island dressing on the side..."

7-11 has not evolved at the WaWa rate.  They still only offer various hot dogs on the roller heat-lamp machine,  but there is the Joy of using the machinery to spout industrial-grade "Chili" & "Cheeze" upon the hydrogenated Bun.  Just one bite is a guarantee for some digestive malaise in a few hours.

Turkey Bowl,  however,  was pretty tasty and caused no stomach grumbles.  I'll probably get another one or two before they vanish from the menu.

lofl, I love the Wawa turkey bowls. been a post show staple for fall shows a couple of years now. I actually posted a pic of one on my insta account and they asked if they could repost it and use it in their stores. the pretzels are pretty good too

I had one earlier this week, with stuffing & cranberries. Was good drunken food...Never got to the potatoes

they've come a long way, baby

What I'll also say is back in the 80s they were *the* place for the hard boiled 2 pack. That was my late night drunk food. Mmmmmm, salty

I actually don't ever get many sandwiches there,  because many better options exist.  What I consume there quite often is the Free 44 oz. cups of Ice Water.  You just go right up to the soda machine and fill on up.

Hüsky's always got his Ice & Water in the cup holder.  If we're going biking or Dawg-Park,  I'll fill a Quart container with the Free chilled, filtered water.

The coffee selection has many varieties (Colombian, Guatemalen,  Dark Roast,  etc.) and they have all the trimmings in a refrigerated trough:  whole milk, 2%, light cream, half & half,  the funny flavored stuff,  even Honey in packets.

Although they now make their own Milk Shakes and Smoothies (not bad) I enjoy the occasional "F'Real" shake which is a frozen plastic cup of goop that you place into the blending machine after peeling off the foil lid.

Only I add a splash of Heavy Cream and a packet of Honey,  which adds texture & goodness.  The trick is to line the mixer rack with napkins,  as the extra stuff creates a bit of overflow.

The fuel prices are within pennies of other local gas stations,  but they have clean-ish Blue liquid and fresh Squeegees + paper towels.  So you can clean up your glass while filling up.  Also,  the gas people are capable of filling a can with EXACTLY 2.5 gallons for chainsaw mix,  unlike the Turban fellows at other stations.  That's important when you want to make the right 50:1 Blend of 2-cycle mix.  Those Sikh dudes usually don't understand what you're trying to do, and give you 2.4 or 2.6 gallons.

But anyway,  yeah...  Turkey Bowl rocks.

New Jersey full service gas.....thats fucked
