Trump Appoints Commissars to Monitor Loyalty

They apparently didn't look into the etymology of the word "commissar".

The official title is something like "senior White House adviser."

At the Pentagon, they’re privately calling the former Marine officer and fighter pilot who’s supposed to keep his eye on Defense Secretary Jim Mattis “the commissar,” according to a high-ranking defense official with knowledge of the situation. It’s a reference to Soviet-era Communist Party officials who were assigned to military units to ensure their commanders remained loyal.

 

 

Weirdly the guy they're reporting to is Jeff Sessions (via his old Chief of Staff Rick Dearborn, who's now the head of legislative affairs in the White House). The whole thing is extremely weird and concerning.
