We usually have a Solstice tree but generally don't put it up until a few days before. Then it stays up until a few days after NY. Using a real tree I find it gets too dry and needle-droppy if we leave it up longer.
In less than a month the days will be getting longer again.
It's always boom or bust in the Xmas tree industry. Here in W. OR, where much of the nation's Xmas trees come from, there was a huge glut of trees a few years ago. Prices were low (ish), and a lot of trees went unsold. A bunch of tree farms were plowed up and converted to filberts or developed for housing.
Now they realize they went too far in that direction and are caught without enough trees to sell.
Article on the front page of today's Eugene Register-Guard states that Christmas trees are Oregon's no. 12 agricultural commodity.
3 years of dry summers have been tough on the tree farmers, causing prices to be a little higher. They're also having to water young trees instead of relying on rain as in years past.
Grabbing a tree this weekend. We cut ours down from one of the many local places -- lots of retirees around here went into the Xmas tree biz.
We cut it fresh, make sure it stays watered and it stays up until after New Years with minimal loss of needles. No doubt one of my mangy mongrels will cause some damage along the way...

I'm not seeing a Kwaaanza and Channukah tree in your Holiday Display.
That means you be Honky Racist / Racist Honky.
Also where is the Moslem display ??
Perhaps it's time you quit discriminating against our Jiihaadi Sisters, Brothers & in-betweensters.
And then, the White Privilege and so forth...

Really nice tree.
Really nice tree.
I have much less decorating to do this year, being homeless.
Just finished cleaning the Honda from Thanksgiving.
I will find X-Mas dashboard something or other, that lights up (and does not blink and make me think its the Cops again...)

It’s just a regular starfish with a ribbon hot glue gunned on its mouth hole or anus or whatever that spot in the middle of their “belly”.

Bummed. We can't find "Black Power Guy" or "Sax Guy". Heavy plaster pieces that required a strong branch on a live tree (or some additional rigging).
BPG was once a trumpet player, holding his horn above his head. The trumpet broke off in '90 or so, and it looked like he was raising a fist.
Can't find them or a few small guitar ornaments.
The other band members are intact. Girl singer riding a moon, and a tambourine player dressed as a clown.
This year's new add is an ornament we picked up on our NOLA Ann'y trip.
Merry/Happy, freaks.
