Tower of Power

Forums:

Funky.  Just picked up their first two albums and digging it.  Years ago, I had East Bay Grease on an unmarked cassette that someone had given me.  Didn't know who the band was but kept the tape in my car and played the shit out of it.  I finally know who it was.

They still play, they're still good.

Hearing the Tower of Power was a treat when they played during the 1982 New Year's run on 12/30 & 12/31

Just a great live band....prob saw them once a year for a span of. 15-18 years or so....

A great band and still going strong.  I'm glad Garibaldi looks to be on the mend and back on the road from that freak accident.

Their former bass player was in the news a few years ago....

Victor Conte Jr. (born 1950 in Fresno, California) is a former bassist with Tower of Power and the founder and president of Bay Area Laboratory Co-operative (BALCO), a sports nutrition center in California. He served time in prison in 2005 after pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute steroids and money laundering. He currently operates Scientific Nutrition for Advanced Conditioning (SNAC Nutrition).

I think ToP clocks in with around 60 band members over 50 years.  That's perseverance.

Growing up in Fresno, I saw them a lot opening for whatever touring band was playing there.  Seemed like either they or Santana opened for everybody.  I guess Elvin Bishop opened a lot too.
