Today In Rock Trivia

Forums:

Name the guitar player from a huge 80's band who had a small role in what sci-fi movie also in the 80's

Kevin Bacon.

every answer is kevin bacon except this time :)

I'm tempted to say Eddie Van Halen, I feel like I remember him in some movie, but maybe I'm just thinking of the Beat It video.

>>>>I'm tempted to say Eddie Van Halen,

Van Halen's guitar work does make a brief appearance in Back to the Future and the kid in the movie also is shown with a cassette labeled "Edward Van Halen."

Huey Lewis

I’m sure Huey Lewis “plays guitar” much like I do but I don’t think either of us is really considered a guitarists.

Vinnie Vincent

Mark Knopfler

Dweezil Zappa - Running Man

Kevin Bacon.

None of the guesses are close so here's the answer

the movie is star trek, the voyage home

the guitarist jane wielden of the gogo's

Today I learned Meaty, Beaty, Big & Bouncy was named after nicknames of the members of the band.  Meaty was Daltry, Beaty was Moon, Big was the Ox and Bouncy was Townsend.

It’s the wrong answer, but Sting was in Dune (1984) – He played  Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen

smiley

Wait a gosh darned minute here. Sting is a bass player. I knew I gave the wrong answer .

Well I guess Sting (who I truly dislike, just as an aside) could in theory be the right answer , but the question does ask for a guitar player :)

Just as an aside, Dune (IMHO) is a swell book.

The movie was not so swell.

cool

I agree on the book not so much on the follow ups I got bored in the secord and never finished it, the movie is at best IMO 4/10

He plays the bass guitar....;)

Judges will accept the answer

Ok then, what bass player from a huge 80s band had a small role in what crime drama film also in the 80s?

Bonus: Said bass player played guitar in huge 80s MTV video.  What was the song?

Gregg Allman

Q: Why did I think Bruce Springsteen sings It's Still Rick and Roll to Me?

Nash Bridges was a film?

>>>>Nash Bridges was a film?

That was a very special episode of Nash Bridges.  If anyone hasn't seen it, here is the Phil Lesh segment:

But that was 2001, not the 1980s.

Greg Allman acted in a movied called Rush in like 89 or 90. Really good movie about undercover narcs.

Dune was awesome. The entire six books are amazing. The 80's movie was pretty weak. The Scy-Fy Channel movie from like 2001 or so was much better, despite being way low budget. Then they made a long several-part movie based on books 2 and 3 which was awesome.

Now they're trying to make Dune again and it looks like it's going to massively suck. Oh well...
