Today On The Anniversary of Jerrys Death

Forums:

Be nice. It’s what Jerry Garcia would’ve wanted.

Wednesday marks the 22nd anniversary of the Grateful Dead icon’s death, and one of his old bandmates is using the occasion to add a touch of kindness to the world.

Drummer Mickey Hart posted on Facebook that he’d like people to pause at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT for the 3rd Annual Jerry Garcia Global Moment Of Gratitude.

He wrote:

“Call your mom, forgive an old friend, purposefully send light and love out into the universe in honor of Jerry, the music, mother Earth, and mankind.”

Hart has set up an event page on Facebook, along with the hashtag #BeKind. Although the event had more than 500,000 virtual participants in 2016, he's hoping for even more this year.

“Let’s see if this year we can get 1 million people to send kind vibrations out to the universe all at once!” he wrote.

Garcia died of a heart attack in a California drug treatment facility on Aug. 9, 1995. He was 53.

I'm going to have fun.

^^^ Word is Love

I can't think of any Garcia/Hunter songs that use the word "nice".

That said, I will take the dog for a walk around 5pm MDT.

Fuck Mickey Hart.

We miss you Whitney Houston.

I can't think of any Garcia/Hunter songs that use the word "nice"<<<<

"Are you kind?"  is close enough.

No Grateful Dead shows on this date...

This was written two years ago...The Internet Age Began on August 9, 1995

http://www.litkicks.com/AugustNine

"The anniversary doesn't seem to be a big news story, and for all I know this may be the only article anyone will write about the fact that the best possible choice for a starting point of the Internet age was exactly 20 years ago. I am pretty confident, though, that the significance of August 9, 1995 will be understood by the time the 100th anniversary rolls around on August 9, 2095.

Perhaps the delirium of the Internet age — all the good and all the bad that have swirled into all our lives with its advent — is still too much around us to allow us to appreciate the significance of this date. The sense of feverish fast-moving change has never left. Twenty years later, we are still living inside the bell jar."

>>forgive an old friend

Right. I'm sure he's made amends with Phil....

My father in law called me at work -- I immediately, 1.5 minute dial up time,  jumped on AOL to see the news.  Truthfully that was the first bit of news that I felt compelled to stay on top of online.

May 30, 1996 was the first time I went online.  How do I know, the first news story I read was about John Kahn's death.  I think there was also a story about how they shot Tim Leary's ashes into space.

Be nice.

Happy Jerry!.jpg

This line comes to mind Aug. 9 every year for me

"Such a long long time to be gone and a short time to be there"

i think his birthday...death day and all in between are just normal days. pretty sure he'd not be into any of it....

My sentiments exactly Timmy!  smiley

Lets get to the important stuff, "when will we feel the byrne again live?"

Right?!

i kinda hate myself for not going to see him and st. Vincent or the onyeabar tribute.

I went to his interactive brain experiment performance art thing in Palo Alto but that was just kinda disturbing.

I hope I don't blow it again next time he tours!

I think of him daily. I had so many life affirming moments in his presence.

I also shared in these experiences with my most beloved lifelong friends.

I love Jerry! RIPheart

I'm pretty sure he'd be into his birthday, Turtle.  That's pretty normal.

But would he start his own birthday thread?

I wonder if Mickey threw any drumsticks at anyone today.

Be nice Mickey.

>>> I can't think of any Garcia/Hunter songs that use the word "nice".

"Here Comes Sunshine"

asking you nice now, keep the mother rolling, one more time...

Jerry, I love ya and miss ya so much!

I doubt Jerry would start his own birthday thread.  Like I did, he might start a conversation a day later on some thoughts he'd had on reaching a certain age.

The cool kids act is tired and lame.  Keep recycling the same old same old lies and fabrications for your jollies.  Basic psychopathic behavior.

Thought you were better than that.  Not a good look on you.

What was I fabricating and lying about?

i just asked an honest question elaborating on a topic that was already being discussed on this, the anniversary of the passing of the legendary jerry Garcia.

My apologies if you weren't intimating that I had started my own birthday thread.  Your question's placement directly after my post gave me that impression.  I disabused that claim in the dying days of the old Zone.  I neither enjoy nor understand false innuendo, and am admittedly thin-skinned about it.   Again, if that wasn't your intent, mea culpa for false accusation.

I accept your heartfelt apology, Dave, in the spirit of mickey hart's self-imposed global moment of gratitude on this, the day after the anniversary of the passing of the legendary Jerry Garcia.

Glad you guys figured out your internet drama

don't think he'd be into the jerry bobble heads either...

I wonder if Jerry was covered in fine silver hairs like a majestic Marmot?

Anybody ever see Jer with his shirt off?

>>>Glad you guys figured out your internet drama

no drama here, my friend!

not on this, the 'today on the anniversary of Jerry Garcia's death' thread the day after the anniversary of the death of the legendary Jerry Garcia.

No, just a slight misunderstanding for which all has been forgiven.

I'll humbly suggest that if Dave overreacted it could possibly stem from an unfulfilled desire to dance with somebody, somebody that loves him.

It's an all too universal emotional state I'd like to think everyone can relate to and no one should b judged for.

>> desire to dance with somebody, somebody that loves him.

Is that code for masturbation?

No, I believe that's 'turning Japanese', a different 80's pop hit that's as kinky as it is racist.

>>>Basic psychopathic behavior.

Anybody who teases Java Dave about the time he started his own birthday thread is a basic psycho.

 <<<is a basic psycho

Basic Psychopathic Genius even.

<<<desire to dance with somebody, somebody that loves him.

>>>that code for masturbation?

The greatest love of all.

CnDQo.jpg

love the one you're with

I think we can all agree that being thin-skinned is not the best attribute to disclose in these parts.

vivalaempathy? (not).

Peace on all of you.

>>>The greatest love of all.

good call!

and I believe, in addition to the children being the future, that the greatest love of all is happening to all of us right now in this thread.

Thanks Mickey hart!

I like when Mickey get all coked out and yells at the audience after DeadCo shows.

On kitchen utensils....Mickey Hart!

Ned, do you remember that Mickey Hart story from the airport 10 years ago when Mickey acted like he was Justin Timberlake famous?

I bet he still does that. Probably moreno now.

I think people mistook him for a short Leonard Nimoy. (they always look taller on TV).

It's a shame Dave can't embrace the very thread he propelled to the next level.

Zoning is stressful for Java Dave.

>>>>Mickey acted like he was Justin Timberlake famous

Can't remember who told me this, but somebody was working the catering at Northwest String Summit the year Mickey and Bill played there (2010) and said there was a small pile of trash outside Mickey's trailer and the dude threw a major fit, acting like it was a four alarm fire and demanding that it be addressed immediately.

No, Mark, but my life has been stressful this year.  I've just tried to roll with it and stay positive.  The laughs here are a nice diversion from reality, thanks for your help.   Hope you and yours are doing well and having a good Summer.

I'll try to be nicer Ned, I wouldn't want you furrowing your brow and kneading those magnificently soft hands of yours.

Good luck with everything, Dave.

I do mean that sincerely.

If this place ever stresses me out, I turn it off. I control that.

I, for, one would like to offer kudos to Dave for taking the high road in this: the 'today on the anniversary of Jerry Garcia's death' thread the day after the anniversary of the death of the legendary Jerry Garcia.

>>>my life has been stressful this year

I told you not to shop at Men's Warehouse. Only unrelenting sadness comes from that, as you now know.

I think we can all agree that being thin-skinned is not the best attribute to disclose in these parts.

vivalaempathy? (not).

This is sad, and not what we want around here; if you think this is okay, you are not in the right place. (not referring solely to nedb)

If Viva isn't the place for you, it’s not, and you can recognize that. There must be other Message Boards’s that will work for you.  Viva was created to continue the community of the Philzone when Bret closed it, but not the mean-spiritedness of the last couple of years. Smart and fast-paced fun can be respectful, civil and kind, without being mean and condescending.

ouch. I will give myself a time-out. Bye.

Viva is a really vibrant community. I saw a thread with 22 posts on it the other day. It was hot fire.

I don't understand all the zoners who no longer post here claiming that Admin ruined the true spirit of the Zone by aggressively pushing the ass glitter agenda on the community.

Ha, those suits have gotten a lot of use this year and are still holding up well, Mark.  I'm still happy with the purchase and feel like I got a good deal.   One less thing to worry about, you know?

Thanks for the kind words, Furious E and Ned, and a tip of the hat to admin for a fine job of administering.

A self imposed time out on this, the Mickey hart self-imposed global moment of gratitude 'today on the anniversary of Jerry Garcia's death' thread the day after the anniversary of the passing of the legendary Jerry Garcia?!

Would anybody be interested in chipping in to buy Judit a cat?

sigh.

Meow.

I think one of my neighbors is giving away kittens.

if everybody wants to chip in for gas I can deliver to Oregon, b a great excuse to get back up there.

Peace, love and dad rock.

<<< I will give myself a time-out. Bye

Is that code for masterbation?

you've got mail!

is this a bad time to remember the puffyg dick pick to coolchick?

Let's stay focused on the kitten initiative here, guys.

>>>peace, love and dad Rock

Oh, that reminds me, u can stream the full recent wilco set from the Newport folk fest here:

>>>>Those suits have gotten a lot of use this year and are still holding up well, Mark.  I'm still happy with the purchase and feel like I got a good deal.

Javadave's going to like the way he looks, they guarantee it!

I just took that cat quiz.

It told me to get a dog.

You can get a dog, but it has to wear a hemp collar to pass muster with Admin.

Just a heads up for everyone on that.

If you think judit needs a cat, we'll need 3.

The Viva Admin team consists of 3 people, judit, Davey & lava, making decisions as a group.
judit is the one of us who Zones more and is most visible, we are all in communication with each other.

I don't think that "thin skinned" works too well on any message board.

Last year I was researching something about a Mazda transmission, and followed Google to a Mazda Board. Some poor woman had started a thread asking a good question. She was friggin' abused for it, and it was a car message board.

I don't think empathy should matter. The gold standard should maybe be, if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything.

Who's on the Jr. admin team?

You'll get the number of cats the community decides to give you, Admin.

Still at one.

My dog's hemp collar is junior admin.

Yep, one cat. You three can divvy it up as you please.

Not looking for ass glitter, but solid contributions to the Board.

St. Mark you can't get behind that, please find another message board that meets your liking.

Locals only brah.

What's a "solid contribution"?

This should be good.

My girl picked up giardia last week. Her contributions were definitely not solid.

Anybody interested in adding a second cat?

just kill other stuff completely.

i get the sentiments but...just have show reviews and holistic folders.

i have yet to see new members or people that were formerly oppresed start to post...

I think that Slack has a link to a Board.

Do they provide emotional support animals over at thephilzone.net?

22 years ago.  I recall a couple people calling with 'the news'  -- my Mom and a friend in Connecticut who(m)  went to some shows together.  I was living out in Summit OR and they thought I was like up in a Redwood with no electric or plumbing.  Actually it was a nice house;  I'd already heard on the radio.

I remember my Dad saying " Wow  he looks a lot older than 53 ! "   And Mom saying " I'm sure you are very upset ..."  I told her that  pretty much everyone saw it coming,  and that I was lucky to have attended many shows over the years.  All of the post-Coma shows were a Gift to all us Heads,  Garcia's Ninth Life.

In perspective,  22 years elapsed between WWII where Dad was blowing stuff up in Germany and when I was a toddler throwing cereal at the Dog.

thin skinned is why we cant have nice things

Just wanted to thank Heydavey for his solid contribution to this thread.

We are aiming for 1-4, kids.

Heard it on the morning news.

I was in shock for a few days, maybe weeks, even though I was quite aware of Jerry's problem for many years.

I remember getting calls and condolences from non head friends, which was nice.  (There's that word again, nice)

Lol at "holistic folders".

Wait, hold up, I'm confused.

Is the greatest love of all happening on this, the 'today on the anniversary of Jerry Garcia's death' thread the day after the anniversary of the death of the legendary Jerry Garcia or isn't it?

Oh, Mama, can this really be the end? To be stuck outside of Denver with the Viva Blues again.

Thanks for posting here instead of there, McDoob.

Solid contribution.

You should post there Slacker. They're keeping a light on for you.

They lurk on my every word over here.

I'm their favorite. They say they're gonna stop but i always bring them back.

Do you have a favorite over there.

Tulsa or K-hole?

So much Drama...

got anymore shit pics to spruce up the joint?

They still be living in my butthole.

Kirby, tell me how my ass tastes.

D Stu, you were brewing;  I remember phoning you with the news.  I was working as well.

You asked if we should go to SF, I think.

KeseyB! So nice to see you.

No Ass, that's a real, medical chart.

Your last post was a Type 6. My post with the chart was a Type 2, slightly constipated.

another solid briank post, briank.

They're getting paranoid. Now they are emailing admin to see if the socks are me.

Full circle.

Hunt down and kill all the socks, boys!

Fuck dude, you are a downer.

The courage to do what?

Troll those guys in a place where they can directly respond to you.

I don't know, effectively trolling people on a board you're not even on is kinda next level.

that's almost like celebrity status trolling.

I think the key word is "effectively" - if he was, you might be correct.

The troll experts

I have no beef with Slacker. It seems like he's got a lot of stuff to say to/about you guys. IMO he should sack up and post that shit here so y'all can respond directly, because we all know you CAN'T respond to him over there. Seems pretty straightforward to me.

So it doesn't seem pretty straightforward to you? Do tell.

>>>The troll experts

it's times like this I wish nick was here to talk about how he's "out of the troll game" and its subsequent evils.

Meh. I'm not an expert. Just offering an observation: trolling people that can't respond to you seems like a dick move, motivated by a lack of courage. I could be wrong: maybe Slacker will explain.

who wants to wait 48 hrs for a response?

Why can't they respond to me? What did they do?

I'll post that over there Slacker. We'll see what they say. LOL

Weak, Slack. Man up or shut up. Shit is fucking old already. Nobody wants your stupid Board War.

I think it's novel

If you don't like their threads, tell them yourself, men.

I think it's kinda novel as well and I, unlike mcdoobie, am an expert.

got my online degree from DeVry in dbmb trollology framed on the wall to prove it, unless that degree is fake and I was just being trolled, which would b pretty ironic now that I think about it.

lol

I think it's like a novel.

I'm seeing this:

Slacker's maybe seeing this:
