Those crazy anti-gun kids have released their demands

Forums:

Obviously something wrong with their cognitive abilities. I don't know how any one can take these kids seriously /s

  • Fund more gun violence research. We actually made a step in this direction when President Trump signed the 2018 budget, which clarifies that the 1996 Dickey Amendment doesn’t prohibit the CDC from conducting gun research.
  • Unleash the ATF. Let them store their background-check records on a computer, for example.
  • Universal background checks. In theory, everyone is in favor of this. In theory.
  • High-capacity magazine ban. This has long been my favorite. MFOL is calling for a 10-round limit. I’d make it six, myself.
  • Assault weapons ban. The gun folks are right when they say it’s tricky to define “assault weapon,” but it’s not actually impossible.

it doesnt prohibit them, but they dont have funds for it, nor does it allocate funds for it

Ammosexuals will be up in arms regarding this obvious gun grab.

The gerrymandered House controls the purse strings that's why Koch brothers bought them off after the Tax Cut passed.

That's a funny way to say build a mandatory national gun registry.

>>>That's a funny way to say build a mandatory national gun registry.

I know -  next thing you know they will want a national registry of people who want to travel out of the country.

So if we don't meet their demands, they'll.... vote?

And if we do, they'll still vote?

Pretty shitty threat. I'll take my chances.

Ender,

Which of those demands do you think are unreasonable?

I want you to know that I really appreciate your participation in this subject.

Thanks,

John

THIS ONE:

2.  Eliminate absurd restrictions on ATF.

The gun industry has operated mostly unchecked for far too long. ATF, the only federal agency with jurisdiction to regulate the gun industry, has been operating with one hand tied behind its back – unable to even digitize records of gun sales – or require gun dealers to conduct annual inventory checks to make sure they aren’t missing any guns. The ATF needs to become a modern agency, one capable of keeping receipts and efficiently regulating this massive industry.

Johnny,

The National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NCIS) was setup by the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act.

Jim and Sarah Brady, the most prominent gun control proponents at the time, were present when it was signed in their honor. It was a compromise between both parties. Part of that compromise was a lack of permanent records of gun purchases. There is no doubt that it has prevented over a million illegal gun purchases and is a success in preventing crime.

The goal posts are being moved. It's as simple as that. We already compromised and you are asking us to do it again. You don't need records for legal purchases.

> the only federal agency with jurisdiction to regulate the gun industry,

is this true?

I agree with this guy...

Retired Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens Calls For Second Amendment Repeal

“That simple but dramatic action would move Saturday’s marchers closer to their objective than any other possible reform,” he wrote in a New York Times op-ed.

In 2008, the Supreme Court’s 5-4 decision in District of Columbia v. Heller was widely considered a victory for the National Rifle Association (NRA) and other gun rights advocates, helping to cement a broad interpretation of the Second Amendment and limiting legal grounds for gun control measures.

The ruling barred Washington, D.C., which has among the country’s strictest gun laws, from enforcing a ban it had on handguns and other gun requirements because they violated the Second Amendment.

Stevens, among the four justices in the court’s liberal wing who dissented in the case, wrote Tuesday that he still believes the ruling was “wrong and certainly was debatable,” arguing that it “has provided the NRA with a propaganda weapon of immense power.”

“Overturning that decision via a constitutional amendment to get rid of the Second Amendment would be simple and would do more to weaken the NRA’s ability to stymie legislative debate and block constructive gun control legislation than any other available option,” he continued.

Thanks for the explanation, ender.

So, are you against having permanent records for gun purchases?  Is this a privacy concern or more of a concern that it somehow erodes the right to legally own a gun?  Or that it's just the idea that gun control advocates are creating some sort of imbalance in the gun debatee?

My intent is not to present a loaded question.  I just want to understand why a registry would be a bad (or not-so-good) thing.

Cheers,

JD

If owning a gun is a right and the federal government has vetted you and had their opportunity to tax your purchase, why would they need a record?

To make sure people aren’t selling them to people that aren’t supposed to have them.
