Dwight Yoakam is definitely

Dwight Yoakam is definitely pretty darned good, but as always the venue played a role in my overall experience.

I saw the show at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga, which is a fine little outdoor theater but is very mellow and draws a mellow crowd. IMO Yoakam is best in a rowdy GA club/honkytonk atmosphere, not in a nice, seated group of folks.

IMO Yoakam would also benefit from having full-time pedal steel & fiddle players. He has a guy who switches off on those and plays keys as well, but I say keys aren't nearly as important in that type of county music as steel and fiddle, and I found myself wanting more of those last night.

As this relates to this "Thinking about you" thread, Yoakam's show got me thinking about Marty Stewart, who I find similar in style and really like but haven't seen in a long time.
