They sided with the baker.

- Republic of Gilead

From the beginning, I've found this a very interesting case. I know that after this case came to light, a number of top rated wedding photographers stopped taking bookings because of possible law suits and were waiting for this case to work its way through the courts. Of course that was easy to do because many of these photographers are fully booked for years ahead. Working with a client on a photo shoot, back and forth design of a cake, painting a portrait is a collaborative venture. All parties need to be comfortable with each other or it's not going to be quality work. For instance there are performers out there that I would refuse to work for because of their beliefs. Should I, or any artist, be forced to work for them? I think not. In this case the couple had other choices for this collaboration.Simply, I agree with the court on this one that prosecution was an overstepping of the law. Since the vote was 7 -2 with two of the liberal side of the court agreeing that it was an overstepping, I don't feel this is the start of the Republic of Gilead.

Pretty narrow ruling that punted on the major issues. Essentially just said the state anti-discrimination body treated the baker somewhat unfairly, which is a minor issue in the case. We won't have any clarity on these questions for a while.

No gay cake for you!

That's what they thought.

Blessed be the fruit.

Trump Derangement Syndrome. It's a thing.

See Slack?

Even CuckCakes understands that.

He should expect a visit from the Health Dept after this photo being published...YUCK!!

So a KKK member walks into a bakery owned by an African American and asks for a special cake to use at their cross burning that night.  The baker refuses.

I don't have a problem with this.  Do you?

Talking about your inability to delineate between real-world and fiction, T.o.d. Worried about what kind of job the next couple years is gonna do to your fragile psyche.

I don't think KKK membership, nor cross-burning, are a protected class, Thom.

Mmmmmmmmmmm, hatercake....

>>> All they need is 1 more.

They're actively trying to force Kennedy out before the August recess.

It pissed off Repugs when Kennedy hired summer staff/aids and is continuing his summer teaching schedule in Europe.

If they don't get a Justice confirmed before August recess.

They know lawmakers will be too busy with midterms to push one through before November elections.

They fear if Dems gain control of the Senate, that they'll pull a Mitch McTurtle and refuse to give ANY Drumph nominee a hearing.

Remember Merrick Garland?

Pay back's a bitch.

Pay back is indeed a bitch.

Especially when they don't see it coming.

Mmmmm, this cake hates gooood!

>>>>>>>I don't think KKK membership, nor cross-burning, are a protected class, Thom.

Thom probably won’t answer but I feel I can field this for him.

Yes.  Yes he does think they’re a protected class.

Another couple saved from the deadly effects of hydrogenated oil!

This was covered in The Help.

And speaking of protected class, the ruling was influenced by the fact that gay marriage at the time was not yet legal. Sadly, LGBTQ are still not a protect class, but the law experts on NPR thought that if there ruling were to happen today it might go differently, and this case did not set any precedent - the ruling was only for this specific incident. The issue will likely be making a return appearance with the Supremes.

um, this is the dumbest thing I think I've ever read on the zone!

racism is ignorance and learned behavior so it's a choice, sexual orientation is not.... get it

I can't remember the last time Thom won an argument.  Keep on swinging and missing for your fascist friends. They must be proud.

Slippery slope...

If you like baking Gay Cakes,  you ought to have that option.  No fear of "Them"  shutting off the Ovens for baking a Gay Cake.

However,  if you prefer to not bake Gay Cakes,  there should not be some judicial authority yelling at you.

America gained its reputation as a 'Free Country'  based upon the concept of 'Freedom of Choice'.

Some  of that stuff was about 'freedom of religion'  which allowed all the Quakers,  Shakers,  Methodists,  Calvinists and all the other sects to live here (USA) without persecution.

It's all a bit silly if you consider that Denver,  Colorado has a few dozen Bakeries,  all with multiple artistic Cake platforms.

So leave commercial Cake / Artistic Cake debates out of the courts,  please.  Let Bakery commerce  find its own way.

My tax $$ should be repairing the Highways and NOT paying already WAAAAY overpaid judges to bitch & moan over superfluous Krap...

What is the republic of Gilgamesh?

Under his eye...

>Pretty narrow ruling that punted on the major issues

Kicked the cakes down the road

Major issues (freedom issues  - freedom of religion v freedom of discrimination/civil rights protections) that went right over the heads of more than a few morons.

Misinterpretation  of the  ‘narrow ruling’ takes the cake though. Is Don Jr that stupid?!
