Seems like a complex song to play and I never heard a terrible or botched version of it. Surprised Jerry didn't mess it up a lot in his hazy day's. Though 4/13/86 he did walk offstage in the middle of it.

Jerry muffed lyrics on that
Jerry muffed the lyrics on that one lots of times, but it was a drifting song so they could always float away and back in with little issue.
Anyway, it always seemed to me that any time Jerry made a mistake he'd respond with something really good, so I never minded his muffs.
A fine example here...

(Weir finally had to whisper the lyrics in Jerry's ear, still a fine version)

The pressure on the singer is
The pressure on the singer is enormous and when things get lost for even a split second, the recovery while continuing to play can be difficult and depending on song, recovery methods no matter how that works for the singers mind can cause a sort of calm panic process trying to drop that lyric right back onto a specific chord. Terrapin has Jerry many times in that position. It all happens very quickly as well.

It really is. Add to that the responsibilities of playing an instrument as well. Learning to play music is a very humbling thing. Our musical heroes sure make it look easy most of the time.

I saw one at McNichols in 1994 where he spaced it.
I was at that '86 Irvine show up ^ there, too.

Exactly. The chords themselves aren't all that difficult. It's the arpeggios and everything else that goes into it.
